Perfect house v perfect location

Which would you pick?
For the same price was can get
-a beautiful, recently refurbed house of around 2500 Square feet. But the location isn't near anything really. I'd have to drive everywhere. It's also on a busy road though slightly set back and only a couple minutes walk from a rougher area
Or

  • a lovely 1800 Square foot house (but makes good use of the space). Perfectly lovely for the time being although you'd probably do it up and lots of options to extend in the future. But in your dream road a few minutes walk from your family (if you're close to your family) and closer to the station and parks etc

Definitely second one, choose location!

From experience- any house, even a larger, dream house becomes normal very quickly once you’re moved in. Not worth sacrificing location for.

Definitely location.

We bought a naff house on a great plot. It’s taken a long time to get the house up to what we wanted, but the location has more than made up for it. Great area, great amenities, wonderful garden.

There’s a reason the programme isnt called House, House, House.

Sarahbeans · 04/07/2020 13:29

I'm another one for location too. We downsized to buy a house in the location we really wanted, and I've never regretted it.

You can improve on the house, but there's little you can do to improve the location.

jackdaw141 · 04/07/2020 13:34

Location over house, generally. A poor location makes the feeling of a house contract, whereas a good location, parks, access to a beach, a lovely garden or a great view gives a sense of extra room.

bitofasleuth · 04/07/2020 13:34

You can improve a mediocre house.

You can't pick up the perfect house and move it to a better location.

For me, location would win, I think.

Don't often get 100% agreement on a MN thread Smile

Bells3032 · 04/07/2020 19:06

Good luck @Bells3032

treefrograbbit · 04/07/2020 19:32

We went for option one on your lots, been here 6 years and regretted every moment

Taswama · 04/07/2020 21:38

Location every single time. You can improve a house. You can’t improve a location.

minielise · 04/07/2020 21:55

Location! I went with the first option and regret it, going to the pub with my friends is now something that needs planning and taxis, I run and have to drive to meet my friends I go with too rather than us just being able to go together, it’s a nightmare!

RainbowMum11 · 04/07/2020 22:26

Secondly one - no question.
Potential and great location!
