Just how many bloody lbs do you have to lose for it to be noticeable?

Feel like I've been dieting forever. Well, since middle of February so feels like it. I've lost 2 stone 9lbs since then, going from 15 stone 5 (eek) to 12 stone 10.

So why don't I look a whole load different? Some clothes no longer fit but most still fit fine (I live in Hush loungewear basics so we are talking lots of stretch here but still! They fit still, hardly drowning me)

How long would you say until I actually look like I've lost weight?

I'm sure it is noticeable but you are the same shape , I've lost two stone and I'm still hour glass so it's not as noticeable but I know I have . Some people change shape dramatically when they lost that much but maybe you are like me and just reduce bulk .

They usually say 10% of your original bodyweight is the threshold, you should be able to see it by now.

I bet you look loads different - it's harder to see it yourself. Haven't you got a pair of jeans or similar you can try on? I went from an 18 to a 12 and still kept the same stretchy loungewear.

Congratulations, by the way. That's a brilliant loss.

NathanNathan · 03/07/2020 13:32

You've done so well! Daffodil

I've lost 2 at since March, so similar, and would say I can see the difference a lot in clothes, jeans that were deeply uncomfortable before are now too big. But I had a lot of weight on my stomach.

However, hardly anyone has noticed. I've seen people say before that it takes over 3 stone before other people notice?

TattyByeTattyHead · 03/07/2020 13:40

My jeans are far too big it's true. But I never wore them anyway really - and they were Next Relaxed Skinny ones and everyone knows they're massive anyway Grin

I'm a size 14 I'd say - and yeah my harem pants are maybe looser but they don't look it!

Interesting point about shape. I'm your very typical apple shape - all my weight is on my stomach. Well it's everywhere but mainly my stomach

I've lost 3st7 since the end of January. People have noticed a little but it wasn't until I posted a comparison photo that people said how big the change was. My colleagues and family said they knew I had done well but didn't see how well as they see me so frequently.

I have gone from 15st5 to 11st12, a snug size 18 to a loose size 14. My stretchy clothes definitely fit for longer than I wanted them to Grin

Well done on your loss, keep going.

Bunnymumy · 03/07/2020 14:23

I notice myself getting slimmer at the sides before anything else, but let's face it, it's the gut part we wanna see gone. And yet it's the most stubborn part to get to leave, for me anyway.

I have to be 8 stone or so for a flat stomach (I carry my weight there though and am just 5ft). Even then there was a bit of spare tire left over at the front but I suppose I would need to hit the gym or something to fix that as it probably falls under 'skinny fat'.

Tbf I've always had a big gut though, I think some ladies carry it better elsewhere and lose it quicker in certain places.

I'm sure ppl will start noticing your weight loss around the same time you do. If not before, as we are our own harshest critics. Keep up the good work!

Sooobooored · 03/07/2020 14:25

I know someone who lost 4 stone before it was noticeable then suddenly one day people started commenting.

Ghostlyglow · 03/07/2020 14:28

It will be noticeable, just not to you. Wearing more fitted clothes (or belts) will show it more. Also bear in mind it takes a few weeks for your body to "settle" after weight loss as your body fat redistributed itself.
And really well done, by the way Smile

WellTidy · 03/07/2020 14:29

Lost a stone a few months ago, over seven weeks. Nobody could see any difference, even DH. (Not sure what this says!) I went from almost 11 stone to almost 10 stone and I’m 5 foot 1. I am still nearly a stone off a healthy BMI.

gk6277 · 03/07/2020 21:48

Well done you !! I would guess you have dropped 2-3 dress sizes, but the stretch clothing is not showcasing it, and as you 'look' the same in the outfits your new trimmer self is not showing. Maybe try some new styles and shapes, I expect you will be suprised.

Mimishimi · 04/07/2020 09:22

Have you been taking progress photos? I have weekly on Instagram and have also been vlogging my daily Jillian Michaels workouts for the past couple of months. Whenever I feel that things haven't changed that much I go back to one of my earlier videos /photos and realise that there have been some big changes.

vanillandhoney · 04/07/2020 09:25

It will be noticeable - you just don't notice it because you see yourself everyday.

I've lost over a stone recently and took "before" and "after" progress shots. I still have more to lose but I can already notice a difference. Jumpers and tops are a bit looser, it's not as difficult to get into skinny jeans anymore either.

I don't think it's too noticeable on the outside yet but I definitely feel so much better. Well done Thanks

UltimateWednesday · 04/07/2020 09:26

I'm guessing your stretchy stuff was tighter than you think it was. Well done on the weightloss, that's amazing progress, I bet it's really noticable to people who haven't seen you over lockdown

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 04/07/2020 09:26

You definitely look different. I started a health kick in mid May and have lost about 12 pounds, and toned up a bit with exercise. I took a 'before' photo and it was a bit shocking but I'm glad I did, I can see a massive change that wouldn't have registered otherwise. I think its quite hard for us to have an accurate mental picture of ourselves and even harder to track changes when we see our reflection every day.

Goatsandreindeer · 04/07/2020 09:28

I agree! I actually find it kind of comforting that people aren’t too obsessed with other people’s weights Smile

I’ve recently dropped a dress size, lost around a stone and people just say ‘you look nice’ or ‘I like your trousers’. I was curvy and I’m still curvy, just a bit smaller.

Maybe they’re being polite? My Mum and DH have both privately said they’ve noticed- I’ve found you have to get new stuff to see a difference, just a new pair of trousers or something.

ShandlersWig · 04/07/2020 09:30

New clothes will probably show off the new you more than the old which were likey bought to disguise the larger you. Also I find loose baggy clothes suit a larger frame, but make a smaller frame look bigger.

ShandlersWig · 04/07/2020 09:31

Ps Well done! Fantastic weight loss!!!

MsMeNz · 04/07/2020 09:32

At my heaviest 112kg I had to loose about 15kg for anyone to notice so just over two stone I think. It's like you noticing your child getting older day by day way they live you it's subtle. You tend to get bigger reactions more weight you have lost and time in-between seeing that person. I ended up living 45kg that time but have since regained half back and battling to loose again.

MsTSwift · 04/07/2020 09:34

Lost 2 stone over 4 months and everyone noticed! Went from 11.5 to 9.5 stone was 2 dress sizes down

Chicchicchicchiclana · 04/07/2020 09:36

Does it matter if anyone elses notices? You've done really well - and lots of you others on this thread, brilliant losses Flowers!

NerrSnerr · 04/07/2020 09:36

People may notice but not mention it. Not everyone who loses weight is dieting. I have a friend who lost about 2 stone due to having Graves' disease and she was really annoyed how everyone was saying how good she looked when she didn't try to lose weight or think she looked bad to start with!

Chesterfuckingdrorrs · 04/07/2020 09:37

It will be noticeable, it takes a bit of time for your brain to catch up and really notice the loss. You see yourself every day, multiple times a day and are used to looking a certain way/size.

Once you notice it and feel more confident/ comfortable you'll wear clothes that fit your new size better and others will be more aware of it and comment more.
If you're still wearing your old clothes and just belting your trousers/jeans it's quite hard for others to really see how well you've done because the clothes are hiding your progress.

277xo · 04/07/2020 09:39

I’ve lost 1st 7lbs since May and although I notice (some of my clothes are too big and a belt, which I couldn’t fit into before, I now need new holes in!) but no one else seems to have noticed. I still need to lose another 1 and a half stone to get to my goal weight. When I lost weight previously (about 2 and a half stone, I’m such a yo yo) I went from a size 14 to an 8/10 and people didn’t really notice until I got to my target really!

Hoppit · 04/07/2020 09:40

Not everyone likes to mention when they see you have lost weight. I lost a couple of stone and was really embarrassed when people commented. It felt like they must have been looking at me and judging me before, and presumably still were! We're they really looking at my bum and thinking how it had shrunk?! So I never mention someone's weight loss unless they say something first. I do know a couple of my friends are similar.
