Just how many bloody lbs do you have to lose for it to be noticeable?

Feel like I've been dieting forever. Well, since middle of February so feels like it. I've lost 2 stone 9lbs since then, going from 15 stone 5 (eek) to 12 stone 10.

So why don't I look a whole load different? Some clothes no longer fit but most still fit fine (I live in Hush loungewear basics so we are talking lots of stretch here but still! They fit still, hardly drowning me)

How long would you say until I actually look like I've lost weight?

Congrats!! That is a massive loss! Amazing. It’s always hard to see the difference yourself, taking photos will help you track it better. You’ll be losing inches everywhere so that’s why it’s not as dramatic as say, just suddenly having a flat tummy.

There’s also politeness to factor in OP.

I very rarely comment on a person’s weight. Have you lost weight? implies you noticed the person was heavier before as perhaps in need of some weight loss - it’s a very personal observation to make. Of course, I notice it but you’d have to lose an awful lot before I’d comment.

In addition, I grew up with a sibling with an eating disorder. Now, as an adult, I would never in a million years mention her weight, whether she’d lost or gained 10 stones. Thinking about it, I’m sure I’ve never commented on anyone’s weight, aside from maybe DH when he’s gained a bit of a belly - he’s pretty robust about it though and appreciates the reminder!

My oh thinks saying to women friends "you've lost weight" is a compliment. It drives me insane, I think it's incredibly rude commenting on weight especially coming from a man you are not particularly close to.

TheNewLook · 04/07/2020 10:47

It is incredibly rude. It also implies he thinks women are so vacuous that’s the only compliment they want to receive is one about their weight. And that they live for validation from males. Tell him to stop it. My DH wouldn’t comment on my weight let alone another woman’s.

After about 2 lbs I notice it on myself. After about 21 lbs other people notice.

LightenUpSummer · 04/07/2020 10:57

Yes I wouldn’t say anything either as it’s very personal, unless the person brought it up themselves.

You’ve done great!

WinterAndRoughWeather · 04/07/2020 11:04

Agree that most people won’t mention it out of politeness - not everyone is always delighted to have their weight loss acknowledged.

I have one friend who will always mention it, so I love meeting up with her when I’ve done well.

It probably is noticable. I have lost a bit of weight over the last few months. I cannot see it myself but have had people comment (which I hate, it is making me feel bad when I eat). The only way I see it is the fact I know have to wear a belt into the second last hole where before I did not need a belt before.

Oh I don't care about other people noticing! I want to actually notice myself and although I do in some ways, I'm still a good stone and a half to go and my stomach is still enormous. Just .. flabby. Like an apron of fat

However on the plus side today I wore some size 12 trousers and they fit. Yes they're my usual Hush brand but I bought them two months ago and couldn't get them over my stomach. Literally caused pain if I tried. Today though they fit fine - although I'm aware they're 'sports luxe' style which means an elasticated waistband of course 😀
