Best supermarket oven chips?

FawnDrench · 01/07/2020 16:11

As there seem to be far too many variations of oven chips to choose from, I am looking for your tried and tested recommendations please.

I prefer a chunkier chip, but would consider anything really.

Thanks.

Tesco Finest.

Gastro chips get a thumbs up here. Also like the mcain shake shake fries sea salt and black pepper (you get a little sachet you shake over fries in the bag). Lush

Albert Bartlett. Any of them, from skinny fries to chunky, they're the best we've had

I love the hash brown fries from Iceland. But regular oven chips? Any with skin on!

Floralnomad · 01/07/2020 17:38

The Tesco finest or McCain’s gluten free are both lovely - and gluten free .

Lauren83 · 01/07/2020 17:41

Another for Aldi skin on fries

SuckingDieselFella · 01/07/2020 17:44

Aldi specially selected Maris piper chunky oven chips xx

LBOCS2 · 01/07/2020 17:46

McCains Gastro chips. Terrible for you because of the lard, but really delicious.

MintyCedric · 01/07/2020 17:50

Tesco Finest oven chips are gorgeous

gingercat02 · 01/07/2020 17:51

We love the Roosters ones

SistemaAddict · 01/07/2020 17:54

Waitrose Chunky Chips. I don't like frozen chips apart from these. The others have a strange smell as they cook.

Namechangex10000 · 01/07/2020 17:58

We have Aldi skin on Fries too, kids approve!

CointreauVersial · 01/07/2020 18:01

I don't know if you ever go to Costco, but they do frozen chips called Stealth Fries, and they are just amazing - crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

Failing that, I'm also on the McCain bench.

Crystal87 · 01/07/2020 18:02

Gastro chips are nice but they taste more like a roast potato rather than a chip.

WinniePig · 01/07/2020 18:02

McCain Crispy Skin On Fries are not a bad second to my DH’s homemade chips.

wizzbangfizz · 01/07/2020 18:04

Coop fries are good perfectly thin and crispy!

Another vote for Albert Bartlett here, only available in Sainsbury’s in my town which is a PITA as it’s furthest away but the only oven chip I’d allow with steak.

TimeWastingButFun · 01/07/2020 18:09

I recently tried some from Lidl, they were beef dripping chips (partly with skins on) . I did them in the air fryer and they were delicious with sea salt. So good I went and got some more for the freezer.

Justgivemesomepeace · 01/07/2020 18:11

McCain gastro chips are amazing, but they are coated in some kind of dripping or something. They taste great but cant be good for your waste line Grin.

Justgivemesomepeace · 01/07/2020 18:12

Waist line Grin

Thesuzle · 01/07/2020 18:12

McCain gastro or is it Bistro anyway. Amazing.

30not13 · 01/07/2020 18:12

Lidl in the green bag
Asda in the blue bag
Tesco the salt and pepper chips

Tronkmanton · 01/07/2020 18:14

Sainsbury’s own brand crinkle cut

SistemaAddict · 01/07/2020 18:17
