My partner has turned yellow and I am scared

Over the last couple of weeks his skin and eye whites have turned yellow, he also has dark urine which has not improved despite upping his fluid intake by at least an extra 2 litres a day, he is more tired than usual too. I don't want to scare myself witless and Google. He has called the GP and is having blood tests tonight.

pancreas problem?

lilgreen · 29/06/2020 16:02

Good luck op. He really shouldn’t have gone to work. I’d get an overnight bag ready just in case GP sends him down to the hospital this evening. If not, nothing lost.

blardiblabla · 29/06/2020 16:04

@mrpumblechook 'they won't forget to do liver function tests if he is yellow!'

Like I say, it sounds obvious and is obvious, but my own experience - where a hospital has done exactly that (and on a ward that know DS, his condition and history very well) - has made me always be sure to check exactly what tests are being run. They also don't always/automatically check the split bilirubin; better to ask before they collect and send the sample than have to have more taken, more waiting for results etc.

I had jaundice last summer and it turned out to be a symptom of something quite serious. My advice would be go to A&E rather than wait for blood test results from your GP.

TokyoSushi · 29/06/2020 16:09

Oh goodness, Great that you have an appointment fairly soon now, hope all is ok.

MamaLion1319 · 29/06/2020 16:09

Liver or hepatitis maybe? Both treatable. Easier said than done but try not to worry.

CosmicMonkey · 29/06/2020 16:11

This happened my Dad a few years ago turned out to be gallbladder and bile duct issues as previous posters mentioned.

FedUpOfChangingName · 29/06/2020 16:25

I wouldnt of been waiting for GP and im surprised GP says blood tests there.

I would go to A&E. ..Why is he at work?

I had Hepatitis
I wasnt yellow though

TatianaBis · 29/06/2020 16:25

Hmm even an urgent blood test will take a week for results.

He needs an urgent GP appt so that he can be examined. They can do a dipstick urine test for bilirubin which will give an indicator straight away and also test for liver tenderness etc. I’d try to make an on the day appt tomorrow.

TatianaBis · 29/06/2020 16:27

In fact I’d ring 111 and get a GP appt today. (If you’re in London they will get you an appt in your area).

altmum · 29/06/2020 16:27

Please go to A&E urgently (I am a hospital consultant)

istheresomethingishouldknow · 29/06/2020 16:27

I hope it's nothing too serious, OP.

endofacentury · 29/06/2020 16:28

Could be pancreatic issue. Going through this with my mum at the moment

GimmeAy · 29/06/2020 16:30

It's typical jaundice symptoms.

GimmeAy · 29/06/2020 16:31

www.nhs.uk/conditions/jaundice/

Jaundice is when your skin and the whites of your eyes turn yellow. It can be a sign of something serious, such as liver disease, so you need to get urgent medical help.

TatianaBis · 29/06/2020 16:32

Good advice. The doctor had spoken.

lunar1 · 29/06/2020 16:32

I hope you get the results quickly. We are here for a handhold if needed while you are waiting.

mrpumblechook · 29/06/2020 16:35

Hmm even an urgent blood test will take a week for results.

I get liver function test results the next day and that isn't an urgent test (for me).

Kitcat47 · 29/06/2020 16:36

Please go to A & E as soon as you can

Was he yellow?

Bluebell1995 · 29/06/2020 16:38

My dh had this a few years back . Painless but sudden jaundice and dark urine.

The GP sent him to a&e and he had a gallstone blocking the bike duct. Absolutely no pain whatsoever. It was easily treated

whatsleep · 29/06/2020 16:38

Once your doctor sees him (hopefully he will when he goes for bloods) it’s highly likely you’ll be sent to hospital anyway. At least if he’s referred by his gp it will be to a department/ward rather than a&e.

Busymum45 · 29/06/2020 16:38

I had similar symptoms as a teenager, it was a blood disorder and I was in hospital a week, I recovered fully but it sounds like this needs treating soon xx

ScandiNoir · 29/06/2020 16:40

I also had this and it was a blocked bile duct. There are several possible reasons for his symptoms, some serious, some more minor. Glad he's being checked out and getting tested.

Some blood tests, including lft's, can come back within a couple of hours. In hospital, anyway.
