Everyone watching?

Oh my God what a fantastic set.

David, the world tipped on its axis when you left us!

This is the first thing I’ve enjoyed since lockdown began. I miss live music so much.

I didn't enjoy that. Shame, I love Bowie.

NeedToKnow101 · 28/06/2020 23:32

Loving it! Musical god.
(Bit behind as I had a bath half way through so got to singalong twice to Under Pressure, in the bath and when I got out).

viques · 28/06/2020 23:36

Love him. They had loads of his costumes at the V and A a few years ago, he was tiny, tall but tiny.

It's funny watching the front of crowd shots with these reruns. Beyoncé was young girls, Foo fighters was middle aged men. Bowie seems to be young men.........

I was there, quite near the front but off to the side with my then 6 year old daughter on my shoulders.

"Mum...the sun is going down, there is a million people on the hill, I am 6 years old and David Bowie is playing on stage.. life doesn't get much better than this"
She wasnt far wrong

That's gorgeous ❤️

AlecTrevelyan006 · 28/06/2020 23:41

Literally. Awesome.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 28/06/2020 23:44

A 6 year old said that?

Breathmiller · 28/06/2020 23:55

Yes. She was very sweet. We used to go watching sun sets all the time and she was a big Bowie fan. She was also funny about her little old man sayings

DesdemonaDryEyes · 29/06/2020 00:07

What’s she doing now?

Institutkarite · 29/06/2020 00:13

I saw Bowie in 1973 at the Colston hall In Bristol. He was amazing. It was in the Ziggy days, before Aladdin Sane. Best time of his career.

Grandmi · 29/06/2020 00:14

Am now in bed recovering from the most spine tingling Glastonbury set ever...bloody amazing and mesmerising !! My youngest was a few months old and somehow I missed watching Glastonbury in 2000 !! Thank you BBC for showing this and reminding me what a bloody talented nice guy Bowie was 💕

Habbyhadno · 29/06/2020 00:14

I was there two people from the front, I just saw myself on telly Grin

ILoveTotoro · 29/06/2020 00:14

@DesdemonaDryEyes

A 6 year old said that?
That's what I thought Grin
EachandEveryone · 29/06/2020 00:18

I was there and I can confirm we were all mesmerised not disengaged at all. We knew we were seeing something that we would never see again 😕

I wish theyd have shown Leonard Cohens set. I dont know why he never allowed it.

augustusglupe · 29/06/2020 00:21

I’m the same, in bed now thinking about how fantastic that just was.
How brilliant that some of you were actually there!!

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 29/06/2020 00:25

Despite his worries about laryngitis, his voice was just incredible, so powerful, raw, heart-achingly beautiful.
Sad

Did you read the bit in the live coverage in the Guardian explaining that in 2000 he'd just released three more left-field experimental albums that hadn't been huge hits, and this performance was the first time he'd played his older hits in a long time.

Starksforthewin · 29/06/2020 00:40

I have the DVD of the set but I really enjoyed the collective watching on the BBC tonight.

There wasn’t as much lighting on the crowd as there is nowadays, but how refreshing to see people actually watching, listening, dancing and EXPERIENCING a gig without a sea of iPhones and people filming...

David Bowie was my person. I saw him thirty nine times in total, from Ziggy to his last ‘Reality’ tour, just before he stopped performing.

He was a magnificent artist, his voice got better and better, and that band of musicians was the cream of the crop, Gail, Earl Slick, Mike Garson....
They’ve played a couple of memorial gigs together since.

When you think of that two hour set, there would have been another thirty odd songs which he could have played and they would not be filler!
Sound and Vision was one of my favourites live.
If you’ve never seen the Reality tour, throw a tenner at the DVD and you will see his artistry remained undimmed, a fantastic live performer.

I still cannot listen to Blackstar. It kills me.

We flew to Dublin to see him on the Reality tour.

Last time he ever toured.

Some of the tracks this evening had echoes of Blackstar,.

@Starksforthewin I listened to BlackStar when did twice and have never gone there again, it breaks my heart.

DoorstoManual · 29/06/2020 00:55

when did ??

When he died.

DoorstoManual · 29/06/2020 00:57

This is my favourite of many.

Pinniped · 29/06/2020 01:08

@Starksforthewin wow 39 times! I saw him just the once in 1978. Loved this evening and will watch it again I'm sure.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 29/06/2020 01:09

@Midrangecolours

Makes me happy and sad simultaneously, all those people dancing so close together, who knew 🤷. Such a wonderful artist, I was bereft when he died
same...my idol

I am a childhood fan. Went to most of the exhibitions...tonight was like going to a wake....I cried though most of it.
mrwalkensir · 29/06/2020 01:20

Desdemonadryeyes - my six year old would have said that. When tiny his request for Incy WIncey Spider turned out to actually be for Ziggy. Starman was a very early family singalong

Starksforthewin · 29/06/2020 01:24

DoorstoManual we also flew to Dublin for one of the Reality gigs!

We might have been dancing next to you guys. I was on the balcony, left side, near the stage. I keep telling my partner I can catch a glimpse of myself on the DVD but it’s just the briefest flash and he tells me I’m delusional.
It probably is the power of autosuggestion because the camera is panning over the spot where we were.

We also travelled to Lille, Copenhagen, Paris and somewhere else in Europe, I will check because it all gets blurred with the Heathen tour.
