Confused

Ds plays Minecraft here. He stopped playing in y6 but has started again because he's stopped playing Fortnite and wants something else to play.

I took him to Minecon London in 2015. Anyone else?

scrivette · 28/06/2020 19:27

Ahh yes it's so boring!

It also gives me motion sickness when I watch so now he shows DS2, poor child, who listens to him waffle on for ages and then comes out of the room eyes all glazed looking like he is almost asleep. I really should reward him with chocolate.

bluefoxmug · 28/06/2020 19:28

tbh those games have been lifesavers for my dc during lockdown.
I love how the games enabled them to keep in contact with their classmates.

I’m a complete bitch over anything gaming. I refuse to show the slightest bit of (even fake) interest as I think it’s completely ruining their childhoods and can’t bear anything to do with it.

That’s awful, isn’t it?

I’m really supportive of literally any other hobby or interest, plus school stuff.

FlatCheese · 28/06/2020 19:37

Well I love minecraft and I've been waiting for ages for 1.16. The nether is supposed to be scary.

Also love watching Hermitcraft season 7 on Youtube. Favourites in our house are Grian and Mumbo (for the redstone, obviously), Scar, Iskall, BDubs, Keralis, DocM, Tango, Impulse, VintageBeef, Welsknight, Etho and my absolute favourite Zedaph.

BikeRunSki · 28/06/2020 19:38

I’m right there with you @flatoutpanic.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 28/06/2020 19:42

Yup another one here. I sometimes make the mistake of asking a question like a pp , I think my last mistake was along the lines of " why is there 6 stoves in your kitchen"....I didn't even know 7yr old ds could roll his eyes properly until that point.Hmm

I now take a cursory glance as I walk past and try to comment on something obvious "wow DS that's a very tall building ". Mostly I rely on "Uh huh " or " that's brilliant "

The download for the update failed here , DP will sort it out but hes procrastinating ...understandably and with my full support.

doctorboo · 28/06/2020 19:44

All three of mine were allowed to play minecraft from the beginning of June, 2/3 can be very ridiculous when it comes to turning tech off so it’s been a bit very wearing. They like to watch Zebra Gamer on YT, I prefer him over the others, although Bricks O’Brian isn’t too bad either. I just want the videos the boys watch to not be gory or the player to gobby and shouty??

AngelzEye · 28/06/2020 19:46

Another outlier here, I coincidentally have just put down Minecraft when I saw this thread. I got my daughter into it, I've played it on and off for years and we often play together. It's great.

Roblox however, which she's also got into recently, is another matter...

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 28/06/2020 19:48

Oh god, the YouTubers. If they're not playing it and making me pay attention, they're watching Stampy and/or Sqaishey on YouTube playing it. And while S&S sounds like very nice people, I just want to scream when it's the fiftieth time they've watched some daft bed wars game thing or something.

They're about to put the latest episode of Space Den on as I speak 🙄

lucysmam · 28/06/2020 19:57

Haha I posted then went for a shower ON MY BLOODY OWN!

The pp who mentioned getting seasick/motion sickness...YES! I thought it must just be my eyes but it sends my head all funny when dd 'shows me round' her latest world.

lucysmam · 28/06/2020 19:59

@FlatCheese I keep winding dd2 up asking if she's watching Hermitcrab...she gets very aerated correcting me Grin

Butternutsqoosh · 28/06/2020 20:07

I dread the words "Mummy come and look at this" 😫 he tries to make me play but it's just so dull!!

NellMangel · 28/06/2020 20:13

It has saved lockdown here too but I agree it's hard to listen to a monologue about spawning a wither. I think it's a decent game but my 5year old doesn't play it logically. I think he should build a house, mine, etc. He just spawns too many villagers in small rooms etc.

It's definitely better than roblox though. I have banned that after seeing him p!at a game where the object was to fling yourself off the tallest possible building. Wtf.

Unspeakable is the Youtuber of choice. Again could be worse I suppose. Funny how your standards drop as time wears on!!

lucysmam · 28/06/2020 20:17

I ought to say, I don't actually mind the game. Dd plays with her friends & I'm actually quite impressed with some of the buildings etc. that they've made & the amount of stuff they learn.

It's just the talking that goes with it. And with Piggy. And the youtube videos.

Dd1 plays as well, but doesn't talk about it quite so much...that's much better!

I read this thread and felt immediate relief. Minecraft is ALL my son talks about...I persuaded my husband to 'check it out' to make sure it was 100% 'safe' one night (I worry about everything)...woke at 1am...DH not on bed...went to the living room to investigate...he's immersed in building a bloody minecraft house! Now it's all they talk about....feel a bit left out Smile

Vintagevixen · 28/06/2020 20:46

Ha! This is my exact life right this minute. DD is sat next to me on speakerphone to her friend waffling on and on and on about Jail break on Roblox as they play together.

It's the music and noise that get me, there's some really doomy music on Fortnite I had to tell her to turn off, was literally like a soundtrack to Lockdown....I need cheerful music!

Vintagevixen · 28/06/2020 20:48

And don't mention YouTube...bloody Morgz, he makes my ears bleed.

Hippofrog · 28/06/2020 20:50

@Vintagevixen, oh I hear you! My son loves him and thinks I’m not as cool as Big Jill 🤣

StrangeAddiction · 28/06/2020 20:58

Ds2, Roblox, YouTube channel and subscribers/views.

Dd, instagram, Millie Bobby Brown, roblox.

I zone out of the lot!

I chuck in a few "uh-uh's" and yeahs and they rabbit on and on, a bit like dh...Hmm

rachyrooo · 28/06/2020 21:00

Mines roblox,I try my best to pretend I'm interested but i just want her to leave me alone 😆

FusionChefGeoff · 28/06/2020 21:03

@flatoutpanic that's me too!!

DS is 7 and only allowed weekend time on an old iPad.

Today, I thought I'd try so there was a big 'yes!!' from him so I asked what had happened and he said sadly 'oh it's just a game, you won't be interested' which did make me question if my very blunt 'look DS I'm not into games please don't talk to me about them' has been too effective.

With a very very heavy heart, he is getting an old Xbox and Minecraft for his birthday soon and I'm dreading losing my creative, sporty, inventive, imaginative boy to the zombie gamers Sad

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 28/06/2020 21:09

No, I get nostalgic.

I moved in with my girlfriend and her daughters four years ago. As a single I gamed a fair bit. I haven't touched my computer since moving in - just doesn't fit into family life.

But i was big on minecraft years ago. So when the 10 year old goes on about it... I miss it a little.

Alexindiamondarmour · 28/06/2020 22:35

Sorry OP but from my user name you can see I actually love Minecraft. I play it with my sons all the time.
