Oh I'm so glad it's not just me. The title of this post has had me cackling with laughter.

DS1 has ASD so gets very earnest and indepth anyway. Fortunately DS2 is nearly as addicted so he does get some genuine engagement.

If they're not actually playing, they're probably watching youtube about it on the TV.

I think one of DS2's best days of lockdown was the afternoon I was so bored that I asked them to show me how to play right from punching a tree. DS1 rattled off about all kinds of stuff, but DS2 bless him, was a great natural teacher, really patient, pitched at the right level. I called it our home school for that day, lifeskills: leadership/ team working.

(I confess as a giant nerd myself I quite enjoying playing Minecraft and Animal Crossing with DS2 - it's the incessant talk as well as the playing that I have to zone out. Now, if I can just get him into Harry Potter then he can listen to me bore on about it! )

DS2 had a school project about castles last year (y1).

The day came to hand them in and there's all these gorgeous castles clearly more than half made by mum... DS2 & DS1 worked together to create one in Minecraft then we screenshotted the different sections, prinyed and labelled the features.

I'm too busy to reply right now. I'm in the middle of constructing a nether route to connect up a series of villages.

I love Minecraft. I hate it when they kill things, and still shudder from the trauma of the Great Vegan Fish Tank Disaster of '19....
I would like to play myself but I just can't get the hang of it, but have joint worlds with the dc and enjoy spending time with them. It's fun.

We are both gamers so my brother is very happy to pass my nephews on to me to talk about minecraft and have tours of their castles and so on

I think she is talking about Minecraft. Sometimes it can be Pokémon.

Fortunately, I don't have the means for DD to play Minecraft at my house. This hasn't stopped her from telling me during a lovely walk that it would be a great place for parkour. I have had to listen to many explanations as to what parkour is and have been fortunate enough to watch a YouTube video about parkour in Minecraft.

I know throw in the word every now and again and she thinks I'm taking an interest 😂.

I quite enjoy playing it (I like hide and seek and the prison game on the servers) as I like building things but when DS starts going on and on about it my brain literally switches off. It’s like an involuntary reaction.

Although if I dare to actually ask something like "why are you making the cows float" I get given the OMG Muuuuuuuuuum stare.

DS got a pink sheep on minecraft the other day. I don’t mind making polite noises but he expects me to remember things

I engaged today and asked all about the bamboo plantation he’d built for his pandas. “So how many pandas do you have?” None.

Fuck that.

My DS just had a minecraft theme lockdown party (just our family) food was themed and gifts too...., This has only increased his obsession!! DS currently has a "Minecraft Zombie", face paint on....!!

Oh yes.

It makes me feel like my brain’s going to melt. They can ramble on for hours and hours about it.

And now DC2’s started pestering me to play with him 😖 which involves either DC2 using me as bait for mobs, or DC2 saying things like “ooh, that’s not how you do it mummy” while not giving any helpful advice on how the game works 😖

My son spent 13 hours yesterday building me a whole Minecraft world and spent 40mins giving me a tour, very sweet but I have absolutely no idea what's going on!

Mine isn’t old enough yet but dd has recently discovered Ryan’s world..

5 year old ds asked for mine craft. I said he wasn’t old enough...I know he isn’t, but I’m still gonna push it for as long as I can

Oh and to add, when he isnt playing he watches minecraft you tubers- Jelly and Preston being the favourites, we also had their logos printed on some jumpers for DS birthday...he now lives in these jumpers!!!!

Preston pisses me off “here’s my merch!” and his annoying wife Brianna arghhhhh. I’m sure he’s perfectly nice and so is his wife but as soon as I hear his voice I can feel my rage rising. I don’t mind him watching DanTDM so much though.

Dd is 18 and starting to get the pokemon/Japanese cartoon things tattooed on her, she's up to 5 now.
"Oh wow, I love it", still suffices.

Yes yes! Minecraft, Fortnite and YouTubers here. DS1 would play/watch other people play all day if he could. DanTDM is a particular favourite and he lives in a town fairly nearby, so DS is desperate to meet him irl.

I did watch the Fortnite live event a couple of weeks ago though

I just don’t care. But have a pretty convincing interested face clearly aS she keeps showing me!

Fort nite and youtubers here. I have warned ds that he's going to turn into a very boring teenager if he doesn't get interested in other stuff too. But then, I talked ear piercing with Dd for over half an hour yesterday, which would have bored ds to tears.
