playpark

MagdaS · 27/06/2020 11:37

@Spudlet I let my 7yo play World of Warcraft kind of unsupervised. I am not always in the same room as him. He has been told not to contact or group with randoms or the whole thing gets taken away, and to be fair he doesn’t. He generally either plays with his brother, solo or with two other 7yos and we know their parents. He is fine to say hi to adults in the guild (on chat, not over voice) but again we know them all in real life and he has been warned not to bother them beyond that.

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 11:38

Mine have been in their friends houses as well. I've managed to get rid of TWO of them, count them, TWO of them for the afternoon today. Will be utter bliss / silence as the one left behind is on her phone most of the time.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 11:38

I can think of one who would be a nightmare. She would shout as they climbed trees "you could break your neck from there, come down to where you might just break a leg"! I can imagine she would not be the best for a playdate. One of the benefits of finally being free of primary school i suppose not having to deal with these parents

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 27/06/2020 11:49

DH just read out to me something about cases in England quadrupling in the last 3 days and how it's now. Exponential growth and something about number of days to show symptoms, get ill etc and it's all from VE day...
I made him show me and it's just a Facebook comment, I said ask for the data (he already had) and said I've been watching the numbers and analysis of them and this doesn't fit at all, so where on earth are those coming from?!

We still have lower new case numbers in the last 7 days than the previous 7 days, same for deaths. People are bloody idiots!

Spudlet · 27/06/2020 11:59

@MagdaS He’s obviously a very sensible lad... this kid was not 😬 It was quite uncomfortable tbh. I guess it all depends on your own dc and how mature they are Smile But this kiddo should not have been unsupervised online, IMO.

MagdaS · 27/06/2020 12:05

@Spudlet oh no I agree with you, that boy should definitely not have been unsupervised online. I think the point I was making is that MMORPGs can be used by 7yo with the right structures and rules in place. His reading has come on loads as I refuse to read the quest text for him - he has to work it out himself.

Spudlet · 27/06/2020 12:10

@MagdaS We are singing from the same hymn sheet then - my DS is only 4, so when I say ‘older’ that could be 7! 7 seems a lot ‘older’ to me at the moment, IYSWIM Grin I’m looking forward to taking him questing very much, I have to say. Hoping he will more cautious than our nephew though, who was alarmingly good at pulling trains and wiping the group out Grin

torydeathdrug · 27/06/2020 12:17

My kids love Pharoah & Caesar which I think is as old as age of empires!

They are turning into blobs - no one wants kids out, there’s nothing for them do to, I think mine (excellent swimmers) will have forgotten it all by the time it’s acceptable for children to exist again.

I gave up giving up wine last night - now I feel awful (hungover) & miserable again.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/06/2020 12:21

Oh good god, look what's back doing the rounds again....

Giant Doctor judges you all!!!!

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 12:28

I am being Dementored on my FB. He lives in Wales, about 7 miles from the beach, but won't visit it. He hasn't been to the beach since March. Because the problem is the huge numbers of infected lower class virus vectors people from the Valleys who are swarming to the beaches and causing a second wave. This is an intelligent man in his 40s with two teenage kids, who crucially went skiing to Italy in March and came home with the virus .

I DISPAIR.
IS IT ME?

DominaShantotto · 27/06/2020 12:31

It's sodding Animal Crossing in this house - the kids are obsessed. That and sitting on Skype sharing screens to do "what type of unicorn are you" quizzes. So I get DH going "CAN YOU SEE MY SCREEN" on work chats all day, and then DD going "I'M GOING TO SHARE MY SCREEN CAN YOU SEE MY SCREEN" all evening. I try to cut a lot of slack as it's the only interaction she gets with her social group but gawd.

PickAChew · 27/06/2020 12:35

Well I've just caught a bus for the first time in over 3 months. I was buggered if I was doing the 30 minute uphill walk from town in the rain!

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 27/06/2020 12:42

Fucking computer games Grin luckily mine are older so I can leave them to it now but most of it seems to be football anyway. We had the Fortnite stage which was a nightmare - what is it about that game that transforms normally reasonably pleasant DC into animals?! Foolishly when it started I assumed it was some groups of little kids getting into online packs and exploring new worlds - then I heard one of them calling my DD a thick cunt and wised up fast Grin

Today I am going to murder myself by going to a shop as if I don't I will (literally with a Crueset Pot and not figuratively with CV) murder my fucking neighbours. I really fucking will. All these "blessed to stay at home, stay safe and make memories" are clearly in lovely houses with big gardens and nice neighbours (and secure jobs or a SAHP (lets be honest a SAHM) but that's a different thread).

Shielding in between two sets of barking dogs and fuckwit irresponsible owners is sending me fucking loopy. Some people have no clue. If I read one more shielding thing about happy to make this sacrifice to keep myself and my DC safe I will Lose. My. Shit.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 12:48

But hester skiing COVID is a better class of covid than the valleys variant.

Giant doctor judges you. Snurk!

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 27/06/2020 12:48

Oh and also rage has prompted me to name change. Next I shall have safe is not a fucking adverb Grin

Although I'm a little bit worried as I have mislaid a lot of my SPaG in my faulty brain so no doubt a dementor will have an opportunity to pick me up on my own shit grammar if I have a judgey AD username Grin

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 27/06/2020 12:50

I don't understand The Giant Doctor. Why is there a giant mask kind of draped over a building?

You'd also think a doctor would know there is a G in fucking wouldn't you.

Spudlet · 27/06/2020 12:50

Giant Doctor is watching yoooooooou..... ConfusedGrin

DNephew went through a Fortnite phase. I remember him showing it to me. It was like a migraine on a screen 🙈 I’ll stick with my nice old games, thanks 👵🏻

Drivingdownthe101 · 27/06/2020 12:53

The new buzz phrase that is making me want to gauge my eyeballs out is ‘covid safe’. For example ‘everyone has the right to work in a Covid safe environment’.
What about a ‘flu safe’ environment? Or a ‘smashed over the head by a falling roof tile’ environment? No?
And what the fuck is ‘covid safe’? A sealed Perspex box?

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 12:56

hester my nice neighbour - with whom I’ve been hanging out IN her house has gone a bit dementory. We think she had COVID back in feb when they weren’t testing unless you’d just stepped off the wuhan express. It would’ve been naice covid though as she deals with the gazillionaires at glen eagles. Not nasty Glasgow covid.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 12:57

We think = I had to call an ambulance for her when she went blue.

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 13:02

I work on building sites a lot. They are as safe as we can make them but 40 odd people a year are killed in construction.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:05

I watched a programme about a factory making those Le Creuset pots recently. It was very soothing. And the train ones. I like those types of programmes recently. It is all by addled brain can take!

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:06

Construction also has high suicide rates I think, sadly. Not sure why though.
