It's totally fine of people die of things that aren't Covid.

But hester skiing COVID is a better class of covid than the valleys variant.

I love you guys.

@Orangeblossom78

I watched a programme about a factory making those Le Creuset pots recently. It was very soothing. And the train ones. I like those types of programmes recently. It is all by addled brain can take!
I watched the one about the journey from Auckland to Fjordland in NZ. Lasted about 3 hours and was weirdly hypnotic. Sadder still, I watched it while on a WhatsApp call with my sister and we were constantly shouting "Been! Seen it!"

@Orangeblossom78

Construction also has high suicide rates I think, sadly. Not sure why though.
I did some work in site offices when I’d just graduated. I enjoyed it, but it was a very, very man-heavy environment - lots of testosterone flying around, much swearing, all of that malarkey. And it could be pressured, getting these big projects done on time and on budget. And there was a definite culture of drinking, not at work you understand but big nights out paid for by suppliers. And potentially a lot of working away from home, travelling from job to job.

I can’t imagine it would be an easy environment to open up in if you were struggling Sad

Of course that’s only my impression from several years ago (not going to admit to how many, but more than 10!) and things may be different now, or maybe I misread things. But that was my strong impression.

Spudlet · 27/06/2020 13:18

@HesterShaw1 Have you watched the Great Wall of China drone one? It’s on YouTube. Most relaxing thing ever.

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 13:19

I have just had to formulate a "Covid Safe" document for my business. It's a really fine line between trying to accommodate the nervous people, while making it clear if they're that bloody nervous maybe it's better if they don't visit. And then there are the people at the other end of the scale who don't want to have to do ANYTHING to change their behaviour.

Ooh, no! Will find it!

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:26

I think it might also be that is it not very stable work in some cases - seem to remember but not sure (construction). something here

www.theguardian.com/society/2019/aug/13/why-do-so-many-construction-workers-kill-themselves

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 13:26

@Spudlet it has changed a bit, but there is still a very macho culture. I can't imagine many being willing to open up. You just get on with it.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:29

Yes just as you said Spudlet not good is it.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 27/06/2020 13:30

DH's Facebook dementor is a masters level statistician apparently. There was a table of figures presented as it that should end the matter, however the relevance of the figures was not adequately explained and it's making me want to rage at them, but I will not. The 7 day rolling average figures are enough for me, they do NOT indicate exponential growth. I'm sure if numbers indicated that the government would have noticed and put us all in prison (Uber lockdown) again.

Off to do the food shop shortly. I am trying to come up with an excuse to visit the industrial estate shopping area bit, as it has a B&M, pound land etc and I'm sure it have some murderous need for something...
Hoping it's as rainy in Bexhill as it is here, so won't be busy.

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 13:31

Interesting article. I was very badly impacted by the Carillion debacle, and have very clear memories of phone calls coming in from their staff begging for work, for referrals to other companies, just anything to keep them going. It was a horrendous time. We are still dealing with the aftermath now.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:32

On those covid safe plans, DH was saying his factory has followed some plans given, but still has e.g. lots of doors to open and go through, taps to turn on and off as usual, and also very hot water not conducive to washing hands. Also given the workers heavy face shield things usually used for face protection from other stuff. He's not part of the general work but goes in as a kind of consultant but was just mentioning how they have followed certain things but just general simple stuff seems to be a bit overlooked.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 13:32

(he doesn't seem to mind though)

PickAChew · 27/06/2020 13:36

A lot of pokemon go, in this house. DS1 plays bus simulators. He seems to be getting a bit better at not continually crashing. DH is surgically attached to his xbox, today. I can't say it isn't a source of friction, sometimes.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 13:41

I prefer Covid Safe to just SAFE, because at least it admits the possibility of other types of risk.

Willitneverend · 27/06/2020 13:43

I have booked not just one but two mini breaks. And a haircut. And I had coffee and a cake.

I am dizzy with excitement. I am deathing all over the place, I'm on a roll.

Yeah I guess so. I just keep seeing it around on dementor threads... ‘IT’S NOT COVID SAFE!’

Fantastic! I did that last week. They seem bloody ages away now. Contemplating booking a night away on the 4th July Grin

Yeah, they love a bandwagon to jump on.

It does leave them wide open to "but it is reducing poverty safe, which is a bigger risk factor".

Willitneverend · 27/06/2020 13:50

@Drivingdownthe101 my hairdresser got in touch this morning to book me in and it suddenly felt like for the first time in ages that i could be happy again and had something to plan for.

Spudlet · 27/06/2020 13:54

Does anyone know if you can take a reusable cup to Starbucks yet? I know it was verboten at the start, can’t find anything to say whether or not it still is though.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 27/06/2020 13:55

Have stormed out of the house in a rage after ranting at the family about all the rubbish and dishes everywhere. Last straw was picking up and ice lolly wrapper from by the PC and it dripping sticky crap everywhere. They are all old enough to clear up after themselves, especially being home all week.
Have left DH with the kitchen to clear up. Am off to do the bastard food shop, when I've calmed down enough to drive. Hormones may be playing a part, but I'm still bloody right. Grrrrrr Angry

justasking111 · 27/06/2020 14:05

Two uni. students here, reverted to childhood DH went off on one about their dirty plates, pans and stuff left everywhere told them mum was not their slave.

Neighbour has bought masks for her primary kids 3 and 5 to wear at all times in school. Not comfortable with that but it is none of my business. I thought they restricted breathing when running around.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 14:06

lethargic I once drove 300 miles at midnight because I “cracked” at domestic mess - aka put your fucking rubbish in the bin.

It still drives me crackers. There are crisp packets and empty cans in their bedrooms. 🤬

Hmmm Your incorrect use of deathing as a verb leads me to believe that you are in fact a dementor undercover, Keyser Soze style. Although if incorrect grammar and a limp is a give away, I too am a dementor
