Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

I grew up near Bournemouth. Absolutely disgusted at these pathetic dirty Corvidiots.

BostonCheers · 26/06/2020 01:41

@SquirtleSquad

I don't think anyone is condoning the parking issue or for that matter the littering, defecation or abuse of refuse staff. All of that is regrettable and should certainly not be encouraged.

However, I think we should not allow these minor issues to turn into an almost nativist 'non-locals keep our' attitude.

Gulabjamoon · 26/06/2020 01:45

I am always shocked when I see people say they don’t expect Bournemouth to be busy.

If you’re referring to BFG she clearly expected it to be busy but didn’t realise the extent. She didn’t say she wasn’t expecting it to be busy.

Officers are at the scene of an unlicensed music event near Colville Gardens, #W11. Objects have been thrown at officers dispersing the crowd. Violence will not be tolerated & units are responding appropriately. This gathering is illegal & we ask anyone in attendance to leave

SisterAgatha · 26/06/2020 01:54

I’m referring to BFG and the other half a million people.

This was a photo from almost exactly one year ago on the 29th June. It’s no surprise that Bournemouth gets extremely busy on hot days.

Newjez · 26/06/2020 03:43

I feel sorry for the people of Bournemouth. I live near Brighton and avoid it like the plague on sunny days.

But part of me is happy that people are out there mixing.

I am in the vulnerable group, and if these idiots can get the numbers back up a bit, they will bring back shielding, and I won't have to go back into the office, so I can keep myself safe.

They can get drunk and swap spit as much as they want as far as I am concerned.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 26/06/2020 04:01

Local residents don't own the area. People can come if they wish. And with the situation being what it is, it's not surprising. I'm just about to get up now at 4am and go up a fell before the crowds arrive. It's the only way to get peace! We live in a tiny overcrowded island we all have to share and I'm afraid no one has more or less right to visit the beaches, mountains or cities than anyone else.

Casino218 · 26/06/2020 04:40

I think people need to calm TF down. Maybe if you lived in an inner city over lockdown in a pokey flat with 3 kids you might understand why some people have gone a bit crazy now.

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/06/2020 05:36

I really doubt the crowds at Bournemouth were made up of flat-dwelling inner city families.

Toilenstripes · 26/06/2020 06:04

I will never understand yob behaviour. I hope they spend today sitting in a jail cell, sweating, and wishing they hadn’t broken the law.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2020 06:06

I also know quite a lot of Londoners also come down to west whitterings.

They have an online booking system and are limiting people down on the beach. Think it's 6.5k cars instead of 20k if I've got number right.

That will mean there's loads of people who are then going elsewhere. I think the same system needs to be out at all beaches.

Why not make individual square spaces? Only 1 group per space? Spain has done this.

Close the car parks and use online booking system. Locals get a parking card.

I know this takes time etc and probably should have been done before announcing a national free for all.

The thinking should have been done before the opening up.

Also in regards the RNLI didn't have time to get all lifeguards because they found out the same time as us the beaches were opening.

SquirtleSquad · 26/06/2020 06:51

@BostonCheers you, you are condoning it by minimising the issues as I've said to you already 1000 times. "It's regrettable, it's not ideal, it shouldn't be encouraged, however bla bla bla minor issues".

Here's a bucket of pissy shit - shall I leave it festering in 30+ degree heat all day and then leave it for you to dispose of and clean up when I visit your home town?

After all, you should be grateful for tourists acting like cunts - it's good for your local economy! Oh, someone's set fire to your local heathland again? That's not ideal but hey they probably bought an ice cream and got a parking fine whilst they were there so you should be encouraging them with open arms - be grateful!

Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”
doctorboo · 26/06/2020 07:32

We went to Littlehampton yesterday, arrived before 9 to an almost empty stretch of beach, with people spread out and being sensible. By midday we had people practically sat on our mat 😡 and some plonker with his music playing loudly

It seemed like everyone decided to get there for mid morning, saw that it was getting too crowded (for these times) and thought screw social distancing.

We’d gone down so we could have a break from our flat (Inside temps of 30+ with windows open and fans on) and do rockpooling and take pictures for my boys work folders (creatures and their habitats).

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/06/2020 07:37

What i struggle to understand is why a global pandemic changes people to make toileting, rubbish leaving, hostility to police, ambulance crew, litter pickers etc acceptable. I don’t recall all this being an issue on hot sunny days before the virus except perhaps on bank holidays when alcohol was involved.

StealthPolarBear · 26/06/2020 07:52

Yes exactly

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 26/06/2020 07:55

Sadly I suspect toileting and littering were issues before but just not as widely reported. Probably not as widespread I agree, but still there.

I despair at some people. They’re gross.

ButterMeCrumpets · 26/06/2020 07:58

I live near there and littering isn't acceptable anywhere. That should be tackled.

But most of the angst on this thread is about the crowds and don't come to 'our' beaches.

I live outside Bournemouth but still local. The beaches and forest are not mine and the advantage of living in such a lovely area is that other people descend on it at holidays (and for some this is their holiday as they cannot work or send their children to school). It's rubbish when it's so busy but I have the advantage of enjoying all year round so try to keep my 'tourists' annoyance in check.

Staying 1-2 meters away outside I think is very low risk therefore I don't get the rage other than the local traffic being awful.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2020 07:59

Dr I love littlehampton. Beautiful town and beach.

I know it gets a lot of Londoners - as does Selsey, Bognor and west Whitterings. I have wondered if the limitations of cats at west whittwrings would cause overcrowding elsewhere.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2020 08:01

The worst thing about the littering is it puts people at risk having to clean it up. Also can cause rodents etc.
And the deficating is a huge risk as I'm sure I read somewhere they have found evidence CV is passed on through stools.

Sooooobored · 26/06/2020 08:08

I wonder if there is a plan in place to prevent the same scenes today or the next hot day.

Carycy · 26/06/2020 08:09

A lot of the picture are misleading though. I can still see plenty of gaps between people. Depends on the angle.

I came in close vicinity with more people walking around my local village on some of the tighter paths than on our days out at places like the beach ( we have only gone stupidly early or late when we have gone but I have seen it as it starts to get busy).

And of course they are outdoors which reduces the spread.

The litter on the other hand is horrendous.

ineedaholidaynow · 26/06/2020 08:11

There will be no excuse today for people to say they didn’t realise the beach would be busy.

coldwarenigma · 26/06/2020 08:46

The roads into the Bournemouth area were rammed by 8.30 yesterday morning.
I can not for the life of me see the attraction of sitting in a hot car for hours to drive to sit cramped on a hot beach, next to a beer swilling, sweaty loud mouth with beer gut giving it large that 'know no bugger with covid, its all crap'. Waddling beached whales slobbed out burning in the sun moaning that there are queues for the chippys.
Screaming kids, 'Kyle you doin me ead in'
Don't forget there weren't toilets open all along, so people crapping on the beach, behind the beach huts, in burger boxes.
That's before we get to the druggies openly getting their fix. Leaving needles/paraphernalia for others. In amongst the hoards were also the louts brandishing weapons having a pop at each other. Then they all sit in their cars crawling back along the A338/A31 with sunburn.
Such a fun day out. Confused

jasjas1973 · 26/06/2020 08:57

Did any of this occur in European countries such as Italy or Spain with far harsher lockdowns?

It certainly wasn't reported if it did, i guess as they limited travel and a generally better behaved population, this was avoided.

What scummy nation we have become.

OneFootintheRave · 26/06/2020 09:04

This is not happening in Spain where lockdown was much stricter. It was de-escalated on a phased basis. Some beaches have been busy at the weekend but quiet in comparison to normal as very few foreign tourists. The cops (Guardia Civil, Policía Nacional and Policía Local) are highly visible and patrolling all the while.
