And should they both get in the sea?

Is voting Brexit far right?

I would say that if someone was Far Right, then they would vote Brexit.

Which is different to what you've said.

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 14:35

Although it's quite funny when they rage about "snowflakes" getting upset about everything

It is quite amusing to see how 'offended' people get about things that happen - such as statues being removed - when they are more than happy to have a go at other groups for being 'offended'. 2 sides of the same coin.

MissDollyMix · 24/06/2020 14:37

I wouldn’t equate gammon with far right. Definitely in the ‘angry daily mail reader‘ category, but that doesn’t make you ‘far right’

KaronAVyrus · 24/06/2020 14:37

Do you ever think it might be a good idea to shut down twitter for a couple of weeks? It’s bringing nothing but arguments, name calling and general unpleasantness to the world.

Woke, gammon, snowflake, boomer. Honestly, ask yourself if this making anyone any happier? 20 years ago all the different generations seemed to get on relatively ok.

A great idea. There is so much polarisation in this world - and being only able to put limited characters in a tweet doesn't help - situations are complicated - and yet we live in a world of hashtags, slogans and 'camps'. It shuts down debate and discussion

Mumoblue · 24/06/2020 14:40

Gammon.

The ultra woke are usually annoying in a theoretical sense because they don't have much influence but our gammony government is doing more actual harm because they've got the cash and the power.

missrks · 24/06/2020 14:42

Gammon!

We can all be a bit woke about things, but gammons are just downright racists.

Kokeshi123 · 24/06/2020 14:42

I'd prefer it if people did not use ethnically-tinged slurs like "gammon."

If you mean "angry Daily Mail reader"-ugh, they are both super annoying, but the woke perhaps have the edge right now.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/06/2020 14:44

The Woke

Little Tin Pot leftie marxist dictators
Fascists who call others fascist .
Mainly middle class in their "naice" areas

Horrible

tubbatops · 24/06/2020 14:46

@chomalungma I don't disagree with that but wouldn't say voting Brexit = far right. I thought Gammon was Daily Mail readers etc not the far right.

I agree with this & hate cancel culture too.

AntiHop · 24/06/2020 14:48

Gammon, as at least the woke have their heart in the right place.

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 14:49

I agree with that - I think 'gammon' is a term for people who read something in the paper about some minority group being heard and listened to and then get 'pink with rage'.

Even though it's probably not true, or it's been twisted out of context to get people angry and upset

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 14:51

Plenty of people hate cancel culture - until they become the targets of people and then get upset.

Usually it's people who are not the target of comedians / opiniated people who get upset at cancel culture.

There was a very sexist comedian making rape jokes who got cancelled a few years ago. I didn't see many people defending him.

RightIsRight · 24/06/2020 14:53

I hate the fact that if you’re not woke, you’re far right which is complete bollocks. The woke are dangerous

DameFanny · 24/06/2020 14:55

@WhentheRabbitsWentWild I think you don't understand fascism

And if gammon is an ethnic slur, how about calling them Angry Thumbs instead? Their rage seems to have burnt the hair off their heads in so many cases Wink

DameFanny · 24/06/2020 14:56

Who on earth is saying if you're not woke you're far right?

I think a lot of people on this thread are looking to be offended themselves Hmm

tubbatops · 24/06/2020 14:57

If someone has done something wrong then it's fine to call them out but I don't think they should have to pay for it forever, I mean actual rapists & murderers often get off or have very light sentences.

I'm talking about the cancel culture that thinks your opinion is irrelevant on everything because you once voted Tory or your uncle works for someone who doesn't pay taxes.

RightIsRight · 24/06/2020 14:57

damefanny

You see it all over social media. If you don’t think like them you’re accused of being far right

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 14:59

People on 'all sides of a debate' often accuse people of being the opposite of what they are if they don't agree with them.

Happens on here all the time. It's not just 'woke' people who think like that.

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 15:02

I've been accused of being both a TERF and a woman hater by people on different sides of a debate on Twitter. Which is a bit weird

I've been accused of being right wing and a Corbynist.

People often assume you must be on the polar opposite of a debate if you don't agree with all their views.

on our local facebook page there was a racism discussion going on , the term snowflake was being used liberally.

I commented to say that simply calling someone names for having a different opinion is to dismiss the conversation and by all means have an option but articulate it in an intelligent and courteous fashion and listen to others.

I was told only a snowflake is offended by being called a snowflake - I was quite impressed I managed to achieve double snowflake status

( afraid I did rely to say what part of that response was either intelligent or articulate?)

chomalungma · 24/06/2020 15:07

If someone who is a 'gammon' is keen to stop people being called 'gammon', does that make them 'woke' about 'people who get called gammon' - and if they are offended, does that make them a 'snowflake'?

tubbatops · 24/06/2020 15:07

People often assume you must be on the polar opposite of a debate if you don't agree with all their views.

There also seems to be belief that if you state a fact you are somehow condoning that fact. For example I said to family member Donald Trump is very popular in Alabama etc they heard I love Trump & thinks he's a great President. It's really weird.
