How tall is your 11 year old DD?

My daughter is very self conscious she has always been tall but it has become more an issue in the last years of primary school.
She was born in January so not the oldest in her year but she is the tallest and we spoke about it yesterday when she took part in a video with her bubble for leavers.

She is 5ft 5 right now, taller than me..
Size 5 shoe
Wears 16 years clothes

Not my daughters as they are a bit younger but i was tall in year 6/7 and then hardly grew any more (I am 5 ft 6 now). I used to be way above all the boys i remember.

BearSoFair · 23/06/2020 10:31

DD is 12, 5ft 1, size 4 feet.

coffeeagogo · 23/06/2020 12:40

Is her height an issue to her? A chat about everyone having things they like or not prefer as much about themselves is that more helpful. I’m at the other end of the spectrum my DD is petite, age 13 wearing age 10 kids clothes. She has always been very aware of her smaller stature and I could have flipping killed the teacher who made them all line up in class as “team builder” for their new year 7 tutor group - as it fed right into her insecurities as yes yet again it was highlighted she was the smallest in her group 😬but she’s very fit and strong at sports so I tell her to play to her strengths as someone will always be the tallest / smallest. This gives her confidence, and sport has taught her a lot about resilience especially when swimming against giants in the pool!
Her cousin is the opposite at being very tall but it’s helped him not too attract too much attention in year 7 as people think he’s older.
Gd luck to her, play to her strengths.

cravingthelook · 23/06/2020 12:55

DD1 was always talk for her age she hit about 5'5" about 12.
She stopped growing about 17 but slowed down long before that. She's a beautiful 5'11" now. Oh how lovely it would be to have her long frame.

Celebrate your daughter and explain girls grow taller younger than boys (generally) and she will stop growing when it's right for her.

Tall*

ginandgingers92 · 23/06/2020 12:59

Age 12 I was 5ft 8, with size 7 feet, I am
now 6ft with size 8 feet. It did affect my confidence for a while but now I absolutely love it, and think both

ginandgingers92 · 23/06/2020 12:59

*and think nothing of wearing 4 inch heels on a night out :)

blosstree · 23/06/2020 13:01

I was 5 ft 10 at age 12!

I've stayed that height though (ish) - I'm just over 5ft 11 as an adult.

Splattherat · 23/06/2020 13:02

My DD was about 5’8’ when she left primary but she stopped growing pretty soon after. She takes a size 8 shoe and has done since year 8. She is 15 and 5’10’ now and some of her peers are starting to catch up with her. But I think she is taller than than most of them and definitely stopped growing in year 8.

SaltedCaramelPopcorn · 23/06/2020 13:04

I was 5'3" when I was 11, now 5'9". Can't remember what shoe size I was then but only a size 5 now!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 23/06/2020 13:04

Both my dds were taller than most of their classmates (and some teachers) at 12, around 5'6. Dd1 is now 5'8, size 8 feet. Dd2 5'11 & size 7.5 feet. I am 5'7 & dh 6'4.

Angelonia · 23/06/2020 13:09

My DD is 12yo and somewhere between 5'7" and 5'8". Shoe size 7 and wears adult size 8 clothes. She plays netball so she likes being tall!

Batqueen · 23/06/2020 13:12

My sister was 5ft 4 at that age and then stopped growing more or less ending up at 5 ft 5

I grew slowly and steadily, was much smaller than her at that age but only ended up just over an inch shorter overall so it really didn’t make a difference in the long run.

ginandgingers92 · 23/06/2020 13:15

I think the good thing about being tall at this age, is how much more choice in clothing and shoes there is! :) I'm only 27, but even when I was trying to find school shoes, I used to have to go to M&S and wear some absolute monstrosities! Same with clothing, the only place they used to do decent tall jeans was Long Tall Sally and Topshop (also Tallgirls if anyone remembers that?!) which were expensive, now there's so much more choice and way more affordable 🤗

Juno231 · 23/06/2020 13:26

I was 5'4 at 11 and stopped growing at 5'7". From memory most girls don't grow more than 3 inches after their first period and I had mine at 11,5 years old so seems about accurate!

CMOTDibbler · 23/06/2020 13:27

When I left junior school at 11 I was my adult height (5'9) and the same shoe size (6)

userabcname · 23/06/2020 13:30

I was 5'3" at 11 and the third tallest in my y6 class (I remember lining up in height order for our leavers' photo!). I am still 5'3" and have size 3 feet. Not short, not tall. If she stays at 5'5" then that's perfectly average I think.

MikeUniformMike · 23/06/2020 13:34

How tall are the parents? Presumably OP is about average for a woman.

Usually children are taller than the shorter of the two parents, usually the mother. If you have a son and a daughter, the daughter may end up being taller than her brother.

Mum2Girls19 · 23/06/2020 16:51

Her dad is 6ft 7 and Im only 5ft

She is very conscious about her height, gets a lot of growing pains but she seems to have shot up in the last month or so since lockdown, im just wondering how much more growing has she got left lol

CoconutAmericano · 23/06/2020 16:55

My 11 yo dd is 5’3” and wears size 6 in trainers so I think by her shoe size she’s going to keep growing. I could be wrong though!

BillywilliamV · 23/06/2020 16:57

My 14yo has just hit 6ft, she is GORGEOUS!

happytoday73 · 23/06/2020 17:06

I stopped growing about half way through year 7 at 5ft 9 and size 7 shoes. As soon as I stopped I started my periods. They boys were ridiculously short in comparison 🤣

I think she likely only has another year of growing a will be 5ft9-11.

My niece was very aware of her height.. Until she was 5ft 9 I'd comment that she wasn't tall enough yet to be a catwalk model... When she got there I'd tell her not to be bothered as now tall enough to be a catwalk model.
Years later she told me that helped... Although she knew she was never going to be one...

LoseLooseLucy · 23/06/2020 18:17

I saw my 11 year old niece for the first time in weeks today and she's around 5ft 3" (her dad is 6ft 2" though) .

puppymouse · 23/06/2020 18:20

At your DD's age I was exactly the same size as I am now. 5ft 7, size 7 feet, large chest (DM didn't really get bras sorted and I hated wearing them). I towered above my class and got yelled at by teachers for being huge. It's just my normal size. Unremarkable as an adult but I hated it at the time.
