Help finding U.K. seaside location

We love Cornwall but it’s a very long drive from us. Does anyone know of anywhere else in the U.K. that has nice beaches and seaside towns please? Ideally sandy beaches with a bit of a wave to the sea, not too busy, and not full of arcades and fairgrounds.

I’m struggling to think where in the Midlands you are that cornwall is a 7 hour drive! You just be leaving at the wrong time of day. We’re midlands and it’s 3.5-4.5 hours for us.

I can believe it. We are in South Wales and made the mistake of trying to get home from St. Ives one August bank holiday weekend. It took literally all day, it’s put me off Cornwall in the summer for life!

@Hollyhead near Lincoln. Google maps says 6 hours but with a rest break (several needed with 2 young children) it takes well over 7. Traffic around Birmingham and Bristol is always terrible.

@snailsetsail ah ok I can see how it’s 7 hours from Lincoln! But in my head Lincoln is in the East. Midlands to me is Birmingham and surrounding counties.

@Snailsetsail, from Lincoln I’d have thought you’d be beets going to the Norfolk or Suffolk coasts. Southwold is the famous beach holiday location on this coast.

Another vote for Lyme Regis, I love it.

Norfolk much better than Cornwall IMO. Bigger beaches and much easier to get to and around.

Northumberland beautiful but cold!

Northumberland 1000 times over.
