Was this woman rude...?

A few days ago I was in a local shop when i bumped into a friend who at one point made a slightly cheeky joke at my expense.

This other woman, a friend or acquaintance of my friend, overheard and laughed a bit. I don't think she meant to, but obviously it amused her. Was she rude?

What was the joke?

DocusDiplo · 20/06/2020 23:59

Go to sleep.

MiddleClassProblem · 21/06/2020 00:00

@DocusDiplo

Go to sleep.
😂
Rollergirl11 · 21/06/2020 00:00

You’re gonna have to tell us what she said....

MiddleClassProblem · 21/06/2020 00:01

But yes, without knowing the joke, can’t tell you one way or the other

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:02

I don't want to be too specific. It was something about me forgetting to water my plants one time.

So a woman laughed at a joke?

I don’t think that’s rude. The joke (and the joker) might have been rude depending on context. The person laughing could have thought you were in on the joke or she could have felt awkward. Or it might have been really funny.

CuppaZa · 21/06/2020 00:04

Going on the sparse information you’ve provided, I’d say you are being over sensitive

What sort of plants? Hmm
Smelborp · 21/06/2020 00:05

Cross post: a joke about forgetting to water plants?! Of course she wasn’t rude. She probably thought she was bonding with the group. I agree with Docus. Time for sleep!

Artykitty666 · 21/06/2020 00:06

If it was funny and meant to be taken lightly then no. If it was unkind and clearly meant to be a thinly veiled insult labelled as a 'joke' in the same way people say, 'no offence, like, but....' then continue to say something awfully offensive, then yes, probably. It's impossible to tell. But with an open mind, yes, people tend to laugh at jokes! Only you know the context and, even then the third person may have interpreted it as funny even if you felt it wasn't well meant! Basically, I don't know! 😂

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:07

It was sort of said in the context of generally being a bit dizzy, but in probably a good natured sort of way.

I love those shared moments. I wouldn't have thought it was rude at all. I was shopping with my daughters and one of them said something to me that was a bit cheeky but also very funny. I caught the eye of another shopper and she was creased up with laughter. It made my day.

FunTimes2020 · 21/06/2020 00:08

Why didn't you water your plants? We can't comment unless this vital information is shared Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 21/06/2020 00:08

Just seen your other thread about thinking a stranger wearing a beanie hat indoors x years ago was rude.

I think you are over sensitive and over thinking things at the mo...

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:10

That other thread is irrelevant to this.

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 21/06/2020 00:11

Not really when it shows what you think is rude and what your judgment level is...

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:13

I did not think the student girl was rude. Was just curious.

Lemonmaid · 21/06/2020 00:14

This thread makes no sense Confused

MrsEricBana · 21/06/2020 00:14

No she wasn't rude.

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:14

Thank you @MrsEricBana.

OMG that was so rude! Yes OP! Fancy sniggering away to something she wasn’t invited to take part in! Wow,

MiddleClassProblem · 21/06/2020 00:19

Well you don’t seem to know if this lady is rude or not either...

You were posing very similar questions ergo you seem to be overthinking things a lot recently. It’s not really worth it unless someone was being an utter bellend. Let it go.

PelicanPuffin · 21/06/2020 00:21

Thank you @MiddleClassProblem. If she was rude, I won't hold it against her.

NameChange84 · 21/06/2020 00:28

Wow. Do people really have brains like this? What do you do when you have an actual problem?

(P.s I’m being a bit rude. Start a thread about it.)
