Loo roll panic buying shaming: FALSE!

Pogmella · 20/06/2020 17:33

I panic bought loo roll over several stressful supermarket trips (ie, not intentionally). I’m not proud. Shortly after, and prompted by many media reports condemning me and my kind as solely responsible for the fall of a nation, I used that online calculator to assess how many months’ of rolls I’d selfishly seized from the hands of the vulnerable. I as horrified to find the 2x 16 packs and remainder of our usual supply would last the 3 of us until Christmas- 10 months.

Absolute bollocks! That was about 4 months ago and I think we’ll need more at the end of July.

I clearly bought way too much but that calculator was designed by someone who I imagine does not live with a toddler, does not menstruate and probably doesn’t use it when they pee...

That is all.

3 adults here and we use over a roll per day easily , but we always have a toilet roll mountain so didn’t need to panic buy .

Pogmella · 20/06/2020 19:40

@IHaveBrilloHair I don’t generally plan to panic but I found the experience of scarcity on the shelves did really trigger something in me- even though I knew we had some at home I bought some ‘just in case’ and only once home realised ‘duh, this is why the shelves are bare’.

I suppose I meant I didn’t set out to build a stockpile- I didn’t leave the house with ‘32 loo rolls’ on a list.

I think it was this one I used- but it defo didn’t have that last option on it to start with. The new estimate is actually pretty accurate!

@MillicentMartha -there are 6 of us in our household. And most of them boys-they piss everywhere...I probably use more cleaning up piss than anything else

Pogmella · 20/06/2020 19:49

@1forAll74 yeah I parked in a parent and child bay even though my kids were at home too. Threw my litter out the window on the way home- fuck the world! 🙄

Tried the calculator op.... it says our 36 rolls would last 12 weeks. It's not far off, the 36 roll 'stash' I ended up with will last about 9 weeks.

But, my dd poops 4 or 5 times most days so we go through it.

Also, I say ended up with as me and dh bought a 12 pack on the same but didn't know the other had then my mum dropped off a 12 pack when I'd asked her to grab something else if she saw any. So not panic buyers but still ended up with a stash.

MillicentMartha · 20/06/2020 20:09

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam, there’s me and 2 young adult men. I think they shake rather than wipe! Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2020 20:11

I bought a Costco pack ahead of my usual schedule in February and have just bought another this week. They've shrunk the packs to 45 since the great bogroll shortage.

Two DCs at that awkward stage of toileting independently but not necessarily efficiently. One has dyspraxia. Family history of IBS and food intolerances. We don't risk running low on Bogroll in this house Wink

I think we had about 80 rolls in at peak bogroll demand and didn't need to deprive anyone else of supplies at that time. (Prep not panic)

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/06/2020 20:13

The toilet roll shaming was utterly ridiculous.

I'm also amazed at how quickly we go through toilet roll!

Cool, I'm a Master Shitter. Not gonna disagree with that Grin

ALongHardWinter · 20/06/2020 20:15

Someone I know told me that a friend of hers makes one toilet last a fortnight! She lives alone, but even so.....Hmm

PickACoolUserName · 20/06/2020 20:16

Two adults, two children. A roll lasts around 20 hours in this house (i.e slightly less than a day). Mostly because DH uses half a roll in one sitting. Thankfully he has other more positive attributes.

So I was pretty pissed off today when fecking Asda substituted my 24 pack that would have done us for 3 weeks for a single 4 pack. Now one of us has to go to the shops purely for loo roll. FFS it will be DH

BakewellTarts · 20/06/2020 20:18

I buy a 9 pack every week and it gets used.

3 females in the house 1 male. Your stash would not have lasted us long!

I also think my children eat it!

Bioprepper · 20/06/2020 20:23

according to that poop calculator 9 toilet rolls should last the 5 of us 2 weeks?? Hmm

we dont have small children but there are 3 girls here 2 who menstruate. we go through 9-12 rolls per week.

BakewellTarts · 20/06/2020 20:29

I think the poop calculator was created by a male...

ToothFairyNemesis · 20/06/2020 20:31

We use 8 or 9 a week, usually buy from Cosco.

ToothFairyNemesis · 20/06/2020 20:32

Forgot top bathroom so probably 14.

pinktaxi · 20/06/2020 20:34

Do the walk of shame!

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 20/06/2020 20:37

I try to use ONE sheet for each swipe but find I HAVE to use those reinforcing rings that one has in the office for ring ('scuse the pun!) binders otherwise.... well I think you know what could happen... Hmm

Pipandmum · 20/06/2020 20:42

Teenage boys seem to go through toilet roll like anything. Three of us here and it's about a roll a day (three loos in use so hard to tell exactly). Toilet roll is something I buy plenty of anyway (as I do dog food) so I already had a good supply. Just bought some more for the first time since March, but there was never a shortage around here.

kimlo · 20/06/2020 20:45

that said that 10 rolls will last us 30 days.

We use one a day.

So thats rubbish.

FancyPants20 · 20/06/2020 21:11

People, buy the Just 1 loo roll. 1 sheet for a wee, two for a poo. A roll lasts us 3 days. (Although i don't clean with it, because that's just crazy.)

Hamm87 · 20/06/2020 21:38

Wow we go though 12 a week for 3 of us whoever 2 of us have bowel conditions

Somanysocks · 20/06/2020 21:47

Without a word of a lie I can make one roll last 2 months and on these calculations I have enough for the next six years. I do live alone though and I use the flannel wash method.

ButIsItTouching · 20/06/2020 22:00

One roll a week for two adults.
