@Nogoodatnames

I need some sanity on this thread. There are people on a local fb thread still going about the dangers of sitting on a bench in the park!
I've sat upon so many park benches in the last 3 months. And eaten on them. And exercised on them. I'm not brave enough to do a box jump on them as I'd probably kneecap myself, but they are good for tricep dips, press ups and sitting squat jumps Grin

An end to shielding! Yay! But guess who's found a down side to it? Yup, it's Eeyore.
Which thread is that? Mind you no big surprise there🤔

rookiemere · 22/06/2020 22:04

Bogroll as long as you weren't eating crisps on them, you might be ok and not die, but if there were spicy nik naks involved then I'm afraid you need sign a DNR form for your sins.

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 22:05

@rookiemere hope your DH is ok having clambered over the Covid barrier to treatment.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/06/2020 22:10

I’d kill for spicy nik naks right now.
I had a liquid dinner... trying to lose some weight but desperately needed wine, so sacrificed food calories.
This is what lockdown is doing to me!

Littlebelina · 22/06/2020 22:11

Ds is going in as keyworker child since may half term and I still get proper wobbles of guilt about it and also worried we are getting judged as we aren't obvious keyworkers (wouldn't qualify in st Nicola's paradise). Mainly I wish all children were back even if was part time even though that would be a pain in the arse for us.

rookiemere · 22/06/2020 22:11

Mascotte we all think we had it mid March so I'm sure he'll be fine. He was grumbling about having to wear a mask in hospital though and a bit annoyed after I'm not going out again to pick him up after false alarm the first time.
We should all probably self quarantine for a fortnight just to be on the safe side though I expect. You can never be too safe!
Under his ( or should I say her) eye.

justasking111 · 22/06/2020 22:17

Education - I have signed the Usforthem petition. Every little helps right?

justasking111 · 22/06/2020 22:20

You can carry on shielding but you will not be entitled to ssp. if your employer expects you back then you have to choose what is more important to you. There is a teacher I know who will be seriously pissed off at this news.

No-one should ever feel guilty for sending their child to school.

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 22:21

@justasking it's working.. there were 34 members when I joined the Scottish group, now over 7,000 and pressure is on the SG

I did ask them when they thought it would be safe to sit on a bench but they didn't reply.......

Bloody hell you lot talk - do some work, go to Sainsbobs and we are nearly at the end.

Anyway I only stopped by to tell all you mask haters that you are really not going to like the ventilator.

So not only is there now space for you in the ICU you won't like it anyway.

SummerHouse · 22/06/2020 22:28

The end is nigh!

Lord help me find you again as the AD abbreviation had me foxed for a time.

Been thinking about a few points made on here today. The idea of 'lockdown grief' is definitely something that is familiar. When late DH was diagnosed we went through grief to all intents and purposes. More so than when he actually died I found. I think the reason I reacted so badly to lockdown (a word which will be banned when I am in charge!) is because it harked back to the uncertainty and anxiety I felt then.

Also the 'new normal' shite. (Another phrase i will ban!) Again linked back to dh's diagnosis, we had to develop a 'new normal' then. All changed with appointments left, right and centre, meals changed, going out was more awkward, seeing friends, just everything. I was totally plunged back to all of it, at the start of this.

But at the same time, the points we discussed a few threads back (!) about how having dealt with illness and death has made us more 'realistic' for want of a better word, about c19 also rings true.

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 22:31

You can carry on shielding but you will not be entitled to ssp.

Hang on, what?

Am I wrong in thinking that is incredibly unfair?

The shielding group is a small, clearly defined group particularly vulnerable to a new virus we have no treatment or vaccine for, and we are going to starve them out of their homes?

Fuck me.

So my kids might not get to back to school full time in the Autumn but my cousin who had a liver transplant has to go back to work?

I don't get it. I thought shielding was until a vaccine or treatment, if the shielded chose. I can't believe.

We talked the last thread to death before a consensus on the next name, but there was an unpleasant AIBU about Anti-Dementors running at the same time so some thought it wise to tone the title down. It made a double entendre with Anti-Depressents too which was sort of appropriate. I mangled a few title suggestions in a panic when the thread closed as I posted Grin

My son has been a key worker all the way through..I’m using that term because I’m proud of the big , lazy lump of lard that wouldnt drag his sorry ass to college 20 odd years ago.
Suddenly he’s up at 5am to go to his first client at 6 or 7 to get them up for the day or make breakfast and then onto the next, and the next and so on.

He’s been a college drop out, an apprentice electrician, Never qualified , A cable puller he hated that, a computer student, A single father, a cctv monitor operator for 12 years, a father of three, a security guard..hated that, now a college student on an access to nursing course and a carer .

He loves the job. Loves meeting the people. In our home town he’s allowed to only help men but in the town nearby he does both men and women and Helps a little old lady up the stairs to make sure she doesn’t fall..I think that’s sweet and he’s nice with women so they’ll feel perfectly safe with him
In September he starts his uni course( I hope) as a theatre nurse.

He’s been a great son, just a late developer lol.
Kids grow up despite their parents.

justasking111 · 22/06/2020 22:34

Winter of 2018 OH belongs to a club with a lot of retired members, mostly men. When a member dies an e-mail goes around telling you the news with details of funeral arrangements. That winter we were getting so many e-mails, after half a dozen funerals OH said he just could not face any more. The flu that year was very bad here.

TheGreatWave · 22/06/2020 22:34

I find out this week which 'phase' I am in for the return to the office. I am thinking phase 2, so possibly another couple of months wfh.

I don't want to be wfh for much longer, but I really don't want to be back in an air-condition shut-up box that is the office. It is quite the dilemma.

Dowser · 22/06/2020 22:37

Driving101.. there you go love
Some spicy nick nacks

justasking111 · 22/06/2020 22:39

I loathe air con my DS had it on his ship said if one person embarked with an illness it swept through the crew like a hurricane. Another DS said in his office building when their air con came on in April, everyone felt lousy at the start, sore throats, dry eyes, every bug swept through the place.

All the office blocks designed with not a thought of fresh air and open windows are not places anyone wants to be now.

HDU was pretty cushy after giving birth. Getting to the main ward was a shocker! I don't know how much I'd care about ITU until coming out the other side, and exhaustion and relief would probably be kicking in at that point.

I survived town and the supermarkets in mid-March and working with children disease-ridden vectors so I must be made of hardy stuff Wink

Hate it too.
I had it in my house in Florida
It had to be over 80 inside before I would put it on.
I had the big downstairs ensuite ( natch)
I had to get my son in law to climb on a chair to close the vents, because they were too hot upstairs ( rolls eyes)
I’m shivering under my duvet
Shirley bassey when on tour wouldn’t allow air con on in her bedroom..she said it affected her voice..be like Shirley bassey lol

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 22:47

I've already tried to donate my ITU space to a dementor as I don't think it's for me 😃
