@Jourdain11 you certainly aren't a dementor. You come across as remarkably cheerful considering all the rubbish you are going through.

Sounds like the NEU(?) are though. How dare they bully their members like that? I am not a teacher but have been appalled at how the union has behaved. Deliberately obstructive and playing politics. They really don't seem to realise a) how many parents they have alienated b) that in the long run they are putting teachers futures at risk. The longer kids are doing blended learning the more likely the model will be to stick. And you certainly won't need the same number of teachers to deliver it.
I used to be IN the NEU (like most teachers - mainly in case of any allegations) and they did fuck all to protect me as a supply teacher.

I was chatting to dd2s teacher about it and she said that her mailbox was pinging with “toe the line, be an arse and don’t go back” messages in under 15 minutes after the first announcement of some year groups going back to school.

I picked up some hints in Williamson’s statement on Friday that they seem to be viewing this blended/online shit as a bit of a way of progressing education in the future- makes me very glad I’m partially through retraining to love career as blended and online is going to need much less in the way of teachers!

Think DD2s infants she is due to leave next month have had to do all of them a memory book instead of any of the goodbye stuff - I appreciate the gesture. Got her class details for the juniors and she’s going into the class and teacher her big sister currently has - which softens the transition a bit for her at least, and the teacher is lovely- tough but soft on the inside! Unfortunately yet another year with the coven mummy clique from hell but at least if they’re in the same school again I can hang around at the other classroom door with the parents I do like!

Just checking in so this thread doesn't finish before I have a chance to post on it !

Lovely night last night. My friend thought Nicola would say that you're allowed to have one other household inside like the obviously no point in reading phasing document , but as she didn'tbecause wouldn't want to be ahead on relaxation from England even though our numbers are much lower there were three sets of us in the garden.

We ordered Chinese takeaway and my friend had set up 3 separate tables so it was a bit like a restaurant. The younger DDs spent a lot of time "in the toilet" as you're allowed inside to go there, and skateboarding and their older teen DD had good conversations with us. DS 14 didn't come along but had been playing rugby earlier with 14 of his friends.

We got a taxi back from their house and the driver didn't make us wear a mask. Discussing with DH this morning and decided that the meal outside was actually nicer than the non restricted version would be as either we would have gone out to a restaurant or eaten inside, also a lot easier for people hosting these days as you don't need to clean the house.

Good morning. Interesting reading about the lady with the mild asthma/cat allergies. That describes me too, I can honestly say it’s never occurred to me that getting sneezy and wheezy around cats could make me more vulnerable. Actually I very much doubt it does.

I can only think that people unnecessarily shielding have or have developed some kind of extreme health anxiety. Staying at home for months on end must be miserable, especially now things are starting to open up more. I do have a bit of sympathy no matter how tiresomely “it’s all about meeee!l they’re being. However my sympathy dries up if anyone is making their children stay at home too, that’s stepping into abuse territory and I hate to think of the long term impact on those children’s mental health.

Fearmongers in chief, the BBC, are at it again:

An annoying thing is that I need some new foundation but the one I buy has stopped being made, but I can't try anything on as no samples. Really sad to see the stripped back posh makeup counters at Boots yesterday. Shop assistants were there, but if you can't see or touch the products no-one is going to buy them.

God, that is a garbage article.

Question mark in the headline

Quote from expert saying "second wave" doesn't mean anything, then attempts to classify outbreaks as second waves.

Scary photo of a big wave.

I'm mortified for the BBC that they are public such bollocks.

SeagoingSexpot · 21/06/2020 08:53

Not sure if this has been posted already, but another clinician who thinks the virus is reducing in intensity, with lower viral loads and patients no longer dying/needing ITU in the same way: Covid has gone from a tiger to a wild cat

Flibbertyjibbit · 21/06/2020 08:57

De-lurking to say thank you for these threads. I've found my people. I am shielding but have been going out for walks with ddog, a few friends are horrified at me going out Grin

NannyPhlegm · 21/06/2020 08:58

Well, the question mark is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that BBC article, isn't it?? Hmm

SeaOtterFluff · 21/06/2020 09:00

We went into a large town yesterday, away from our usual patch as I have been suffering cabin fever. There were no toilets open except some grotty loos on the outskirts of the shopping precinct. Bizarre, I'd have thought basic hygiene rules still applied even in a pandemic. Nobody seen wearing gloves and a only a few with masks (largely worn as chin coverings). Some slightly shouty signs about how many people per shop, which put me off browsing in the large shops but the smaller independent shops were welcoming. Every one was ignoring the direction arrows on the pavement which made me smile!

It's become a BBC trademark.

Shameful. Blush

Did anyone else see the absolute clusterfuckery that was Trump bemoaning that the US is doing too much testing because then the US has more cases. If they dont test so much, they wont have so many cases.

Literally left me scratching my head internally screaming Confused

PickAChew · 21/06/2020 09:17

Shame on the BBC for paying someone to produce such crap. (even greater shame if they didn't pay them)

Yes, made me wonder that if people didn’t take pregnancy tests it would mean they weren’t pregnant Grin
Bollss · 21/06/2020 09:23

That BBC article is terrible. And a lot of what he said, like the virus is exactly the same as or was in march, there have been loads of other articles saying the opposite. I find myself thinking well how do I know that he knows better?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 21/06/2020 09:24

I felt so much better once I deleted the BBC news app. Switched to Sky News instead.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 21/06/2020 09:59

Beware the SKY app - it has a very dramatic fanfare for breaking news. “It’s coronatime” my kids chorus.

My head is surprisingly fine despite having consumed my annual allowance. Virgin wines folks - All the fun, none of the banging head.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/06/2020 10:06

I finished teaching around the time that the NEU was being mooted. I was always NASUWT, and avoided the NUT as they were always more militant and strike happy. They are the main contingent of the NEU.

The NUT had several minor strike days while I was teaching and it really pissed me off when doing supply that in order not to be acused of undermining a strike, schools don't take on casual supply, so you miss out on the opportunity to earn for another union's strike that you don't necessarily support.

I always found the union's magazine descriptions of "at the chalk face" really cringey, like we were still in solidarity with the miners!

rookiemere · 21/06/2020 10:20

Tell your DF that's brilliant @KaronAVyrus . We were saying how lovely it was at our get together last night that we could now legitimately use the toilet, until my friend pointed out that state control didn't get much more intrusive than telling you were you were allowed to perform bodily functions.

@SeagoingSexpot I find it really interesting that the "virus is weakening" theories are coming from Italian HCP who've been at the forefront of dealing with the virus for nearly six months now, but are being dismissed by some virologists for theoretical reasons related to what such viruses are meant to do. My instinct is not to dismiss the people who've been directly dealing with Covid patients for many months

Mascotte · 21/06/2020 10:32

Morning all!

Interesting about the virus possibly weakening. It's quite fascinating, the theories and study.

My plan for murdering is more specific today as my neighbours have decided to get fucking wind chimes!! The perfect addition to lockdown, I think you'll agree. And where I live is really windy.

Cattermole · 21/06/2020 10:35

Today's Mole Media conspiracy....

So yesterday on the local media news website, there's an article on 11 residents of a local care home having tested positive for the virus and one has (sadly) died.
The bit that's been niggling me is that our stats on either the Zoe app, or that rather brilliant Shiny app which draws its data from PHE and various other sources, show a sudden leap of 11 yesterday.
Now it's possible that the West Brit knew more than PHE and other official sources at 8am yesterday, and when the Shiny app was updated at 4pm yesterday it overlooked it, and I will keep checking.
It's also possible - and I worry it's more likely - that the reality was "11 people over a period of days at some past point were consecutively tested positive and one has gone on to die" - possibly as a result of a Freedom Of Information request.

Bad news sells papers, doesn't it? And we still haven't seen that Bank Holiday spike ...
