Box dye madness.

Hey everyone.

I dyed my hair “dark chocolate” and it’s gone black. Is it possible to lighten it? And if so, how? I’ve read about clarifying shampoos, bicarbonate or soda and vitamin c tablets, but wondering if they actually work?

I was originally blonde (bleached) but couldn’t be bothered bleaching it all the time so just thought I’d pop a dye on and let it grow out, now I look like I’m a wanna be punk. /:

If anyone has any tips, I’d be so grateful.

Thank you. (:

Baking soda mixed to a paste with anti dandruff shampoo.
Massage into hair & leave for at least 30 minutes.
Rinse & condition.

@MrsRogerLima that’s quite a good point, I originally wanted to be grey, had it dyed and toned at hairdressers but as my hairdresser is quite far away, decided to do some at home. I tried to dye it grey again and it wouldn’t take at all. toned it with a pink which took but washed out after a week (as toners do) I then tried to dye it a cute pink today and it wouldn’t take, hence the box dye. Confused

She is... perfection.

They're aqua if that's a thing.

@goingtotown Thank you, will that ruin my hair and will it also lighten it?

@DonaldJTrumpet she’s like a goddess.

I could have pulled it off had I been tanned, ghosty and black just doesn’t go. /:

That's not too bad OP! I see coppery colours bouncing where the light is hitting it. So it's not a dead deep dark.

Our house hold has seen every hair colour panic you can think of. Me and all three of my older DDs like a good old risky box dye application once in a while Grin

In all seriousness i did try one of those proper dye removers and it was
a) hard work. You have to rub and rub and rub and stay in the shower for bloody ages.
b) didn't do as much as i was expecting.

One tip: i find the warmer the water when you wash your hair the quicker colour fades out of it.

Cheesypea · 19/06/2020 21:42

Its not as bad as you think op. Just wear a bit more makeup when you go out.

DonaldJTrumpet · 19/06/2020 21:43

It's the undertone isn't it. Some people are pale but the undertone of their skin means they don't look like a white a4 sheet of paper.

Or their hair and skin are just the right tones to match.

I really struggle to be honest as feel like a half dead looking plain Jane.

Can't wait for my hair to recover so o can bleach it for another 15 years. Repeat ad Infinitum

Justme10 · 19/06/2020 21:47

I have always found vosene works great at stripping out colour only problem is it doesn't smell great 😂

TheCanyon · 19/06/2020 21:49

Crushed Vit C has always worked for me. Head and shoulders, fairy liquid etc kill my scalp and hair. It might go gingey though, should prob out a dark blonde on if your used finding so light but with dark roots.

CrystalMaisie · 19/06/2020 21:50

Even a permanent colour isn’t permanent on bleached hair. Just keep washing.

Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 21:50

@DonaldJTrumpet I don’t think I’ll be dying it ever again.

What colour you wanting to go? (:

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/06/2020 21:52

You'll need Colour B4 . Boots do it.

Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 21:52

@TheCanyon I’ve seen the vit c so many times, does it work?

@Justme10 I’m not sure if it smells like it did when I was younger but I liked that smell. Medically. (:

Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 21:52

@AfterSchoolWorry would that ruin my hair?

Justme10 · 19/06/2020 21:54

I don't even know how to describe the smell, maybe I just like the smell of my coconut shampoo too much 😂

EngagedAgain · 19/06/2020 22:02

If you wash it daily I'd just carry on as normal and with your usual shampoo, if it was blonde before, it's less likely to 'stick'. It should tone down.

TheCanyon · 19/06/2020 22:03

Vit c does work honestly, not colour b4 level of removal but it does lift a lot. Will prob take you down to a light/mid brown first go.

goingtotown · 19/06/2020 22:05

Bodgedboxdye
It’s not as harsh as bleach. Use a good conditioner, it’ll be fine.

Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 22:06

@TheCanyon thank you. If it goes that much lighter I will be so happy. What’s the prognosis for my hair? Will it ruin it (have it fall out)

OP posts:
TheCanyon · 19/06/2020 22:16

I read the vit c thing on here and totally didn't believe it.

What condition is your hair? looks ok to me in the pic? It will be fine, much gentler than fairy that's for sure.

DonaldJTrumpet · 19/06/2020 22:18

I love white blonde! My hair doesn't. I'm going to have a balayage when the bleach has grown out and then go back to white blonde but healthily.

So I'll have this at first. I'll look nothing like her but you know... in my dreams. Then white blonde.

I can either accept my paleness or my dark hair but not both together 😂

Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 22:19

@TheCanyon well, until today it was ok, still had bleach on it, but felt fine. Then I bleached my roots, (didn’t leave it oN too long) and it feels a little gummy in areas.

OP posts:
Bodgedboxdye · 19/06/2020 22:20

@DonaldJTrumpet yup, one or the other. White blonde is lovely but yup, I agree, we like it, our hair doesn’t.
