There's something alive in the cereal box...

Oh god, I'm sat working at the kitchen table and there are definite rustling and scratching sounds coming from one of the cereal packets behind me. It's a mouse isn't it?!

Now I'm going to have to be a grown up and work out which box it's in and deal with it!!

I'm having such rubbish time at the moment and now Mr. Scratchy is creating a nest in my house, ugh!

So, DH is currently pissing himself over my 'mousey monster'.

I put both boxes into a large plastic tub, carried them outside and very bravely opened them...to find a beetle!! A big beetle but still, not quite a mouse.

Seems I may have imagined the squeaking.

Some beetles squeak. Not many in the UK, but some do - and the sound of cheerios rubbing against beetle carapaces could easily create a similar sound in a non squeaky species.

What type was the one you found?

(and going on some of the responses here, I guess I wasn't the only child who used to desperately plead "can we keep it, can we keep it, muuuuum please can we keep it?"! My poor mother!)

I found a cockroach in a box of Cornflakes in Zante.

I half considered not click on on this because the thought of rodents makes me feel ill but I'm very glad I did - sorry OP but it's hilarious!

@MitziK I'm sorry I didn't take a photo now, it sounds as though you know lots about beetles. I'm quite intrigued about some beetles squeaking, you learn something new every day!

I opened the pantry as a child and a mouse popped its head out of the cornflakes to see what the noise was. I've used plastic containers ever since. That's one noisy beetle though!

It is probably a mouse. cockroaches don't make much noise ! I have just found a dead mouse behind my fridge freezer,and two more dead mice actually in the back of the freezer workings. I have cats who sometimes bring mice in, then the mice get lost and die somewhere. I have pulled the fridge out, as it has broken down, so ordered another one, as usually don't get the fridge out to clean underneath it.

We had lots of cats when I was growing up. One day my mum noticed that the fridge smelled every time she opened it. Fridge was cleared out, wiped down etc but the smell would not go. Eventually she moved the fridge only to find that a rat had got into the workings. It had chewed through a cable and died. The cable was the one that made the light come on in the fridge. The rat completed the circuit and every time the door opened it warmed up with the charge running through it.
