So send out a CV for a job and I've been offered a job interview on Monday. I've never had a job just a stay at home mum. Fingers crossed I get it 😊 wish me luck.

Yeah I've heard about the targets from speaking to someone I know who used to work there. I like the sound of target's think they will keep me motivated.

That's good thinking-why do you think that??? Examples examples:)
being prepared is good... think about what can bring is the most important part.. can you talk to people? Have you had to deliver bad news ? Are you helpful? How would approach someone that needed help ...
Think of juggling different things at the same time- that is such a skill...

When have you learnt something new ... anything... baking/sewing

Be keen and optimistic
Also be in a positive space you can do this ...
They think you maybe a good fit otherwise they wouldn't bother....

If it doesn't work out ok then maybe not this role but you have something to give so maybe the next one..

Lots of luck!

Btw OP when I went for my interview to work in a bank I was a teenager. Hadn’t had a proper job, no life experience, had never interviewed for anything, hadn’t prepared, got lost on the way, forgot which bank I had been invited to interview for (made my then boyfriend go in to the four in the city and ask if they were interviewing Grin) was so nervous I forgot how to speak and hadn’t total mind blanks for a lot of the questions. But I still got the job! everyone was shocked at that. Grin so I’m sure with all your life experience and skills behind you you will sail through and get the job no problem!

NoRoomInBed · 19/06/2020 20:25

I'm now quietly confident that I'm a good fit. I've done volunteering for county shows and things with school. Lots of public facing things so I'm thinking that's why they like me so I'm planning on showcasing that.

Wot @getdownoniy said

Got through the job description very carefully and write down really good examples of when you demonstrated doing each of the things mentioned in the job description. Ask friends and family for their views of you too. It's often easier for someone from outside to tell you your strengths.

It's also ideal for you to have some questions to ask the interviewer. Maybe not the questions you really want to ask. Something about how they see the current key challenges facing them. Where they see the company, and this role, going in the future.

All the very best. Remember they you are also interviewing them, to see whether you want to work for them.

Yobringbackthe90s · 19/06/2020 22:08

good luck! someone gave me a tip once for interviews.. to keep eye contact and not feel awkward about it... look at the interviewers forehead instead of their eyes.. look at them and imagine they are sat on the toilet..

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 19/06/2020 22:11

Aw brilliant well done OP! 🙌🙌🙌

Smallsteps88 · 19/06/2020 22:24

Also ask the interviewer about progression options for you from the role. It shows you are ambitious, which will mean you’re keen to work hard and prove yourself and also shows you plan to stay in then company.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 19/06/2020 23:19

@NoRoomInBed, whenever I feel like I'm punching above my weight in suitability for a job, I have never gone wrong with enthusiasm - happy for the opportunity, the interview, excited for new challenge etc.
Good luck.

NoRoomInBed · 19/06/2020 23:40

Thank you so much 😊

Good luck OP! I don't work in a bank but have interviewed a lot of people for finance roles. Those that stand out have done their research about the company, are friendly and show that they want the job, can articulate how their past experiences make them suitable for the role and ask good questions.

You could ask what a typical day would look like, what the key challenges of the role are and what you would have to do to be excel at the job.

At the end, ask if they have any doubts about your CV or answers - if so, you're keen to address them as you really want to show that you're the right candidate.

Great advice on here. Best of luck. I didn't work for 15 years between having dcs and present work. Been doing this 8 years now.

Tell us how it goes.

This ^ wot @perpendicularVimvent said.

Great question.

Good luck for Monday OP

midnightstar66 · 21/06/2020 08:04

Look up star competencies and privatise a few examples. Lots of jobs are waiting for you to cover the right aspects and say the right buzz words. You'll
Likely get lots of 'tell me about a time when' and you need to cover the STAR. One interviewer of a job I didn't get called me afterwards to say that I would have been perfect for the job but the other candidate said more of the box ticking things . This feedback helped me massively and I got the next job I went for.
