I've just joined the queue for IKEA and despite the lack of 2m nobody is touching one another and there is definitely no licking going on. I was definitely in more danger on the way here, one wrong move on the motorway could have easily wiped me out. I'm really hoping I'm not here forever, I forgot my umbrella...

RubberDinghyRapids · 19/06/2020 14:51

I shall gently remind you of my request demand for the next person in IKEA to assess their outdoor lighting for naice/naff rating (pretty please with sugar on top) Grin

countrygirl99 · 19/06/2020 14:52

Some of the stuff I have seen re requirements reminds me of EU Directive implementation in the UK- adding (quite) a bit extra on just to be on the safe side.

Flippetydip · 19/06/2020 14:55

@RubberDinghyRapids - here you go:

www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/outdoor-lighting-14972/

Bit of a mixture of nice and naff I would say :)

BarkandCheese · 19/06/2020 14:56

Can I add another Ikea request? I know the cafes are closed, but I’d like to know if the takeaway bit after the tills is closed too. We normally get coffee and cinnamon buns from there for the journey home.

Just had some insight into Queen Nicolas lack of rewarding us with beer gardens - a friend/client has told me that her sister works for a pub/restaurant and they HAD been told to prep for opening, probably this weekend. Staff have been unfurloughed, outdoor catering was being sorted and now suddenly it is not happening. Seems like some back-pedalling going on but why?

Shock

Jesus, that is the kind of thing that could tip a company into bankruptcy.

WTAF??

RubberDinghyRapids · 19/06/2020 15:02

It's the pink and orange ones I want, but I can't tell from the pics how resilient to inclement (English damp) weather they are. I bloody hate internet shopping, it can DO ONE. I like to touch things and weigh up if it's worth the money. And I'm crap at sending things back so it costs me a fortune

Orangeblossom78 · 19/06/2020 15:03

Speaking today, Mr Johnson: "Of course, on the social distancing measures, as I've said, 'watch this space'.
On the schools issue (BBC) reports Bojo saying

"We will be putting in further changes as the science allows. I think that's what the public also wants to see, they want to see us working with the reality."

It was "absolutely" his intention that children should return to school by the autumn on a five-day-a-week basis, he added."

mightbealittlebitmad · 19/06/2020 15:05

Still in the queue with a rapidly depleting battery but I will report my findings back. Despite the queue it's rather nice not to be around a hysterical 2 year old because he can't let me out of his sight. I don't know if it's an age thing, a him thing or a lockdown thing, he never used to be clingy and pre lockdown didn't bat an eyelid at me leaving him whereas now I struggle to even leave the room. It's exhausting and really no good for him to be so attached.

I’d heard the same. Some companies have invested a lot into this weekend opening. I think it’s because there is, quite rightly, so much outrage in Scotland about the part -time schooling that is being planned from August. It would look dreadful if the pubs were open and schools were not so she made up some bull shit science to back this up. Yes, I’m calling Sturgeon a liar.
TheGreatWave · 19/06/2020 15:06

If we had to do a 7pm check in we could make it work, just leave after tea, then sort breakfast stuff from the little Tesco then get a shop delivered the next day.

9am check out is more awkward, doable but don't think they can expect that and beds stripped etc. (People should empty bins as par of the course because it is rank not to)

Cattermole · 19/06/2020 15:06

Here - do Ikea still sell fabric by the metre in shops, does anyone know?

So the Mole conspiracy theory du jour. Junior Mole's HT was (overtly) planning to use the local facilities to open up to more children but was told by the DfE on Monday they couldn't. Today, BoJo the Clown says "watch this space" on the matter of reducing 2m social distancing to 1m in a school setting.
Did the DfE, in fact, deliberately kybosh the outsourcing thing because they knew bloody well the alert level was being reduced imminently?

TheGreatWave · 19/06/2020 15:16

That would make sense.

Oh this makes me happy. Perhaps I could be a Boris fan after all (maybe fan is too strong)
TheGreatWave · 19/06/2020 15:20

This is from MSE about the 14th July grant rule. I may just be reading too much into it, but it does seem that it could be some sort of tipping point.

Back to normal in this part of Scotland and the children are allowed in the village shop ON THEIR OWN! to spend their pocket-money. They have to join the queue and only two customers allowed in at a time.

My youngest came home clutching haribo and irn-bru and ranting that some older kids tried to steal his money and sweets.

Like I say, business as usual.

Mascotte · 19/06/2020 15:28

So @KaronAVyrus and @dkl55 it's not really about the breathing differently with loud music and fun going on around you in a pub garden..?? 😂😊

Mascotte · 19/06/2020 15:36

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane Glad it's not just me.

justasking111 · 19/06/2020 15:40

RE HAWAAI party, I would put Moana music, video on for a singalong, mocktails which you can google. Other than that I am stuck.

Re: late check in 7pm holiday lets I think that is down to agency cleaners who will be doing a double deep clean on a number of properties that day, not the owners. My friend has two holiday lets which she reckons she can do by five pm. It is not easy, she is on her knees, during the heatwave, last year she fainted at one. She had to do them between 11-4pm. It is hard but be assured they will be soooo clean.

Willow2017 · 19/06/2020 15:40

Giving up on the other thread.
Its really ironic that all the calm sensible truthfull posts are in the main written by you bunch of reprobates😄

Think you have disapointed a lot of people😉

Ibake · 19/06/2020 15:41

Afternoon ladies. (Why do I think we are all ladies here?) Just back from coffee and walks with a friend. Haven't caught up yet with this thread but my god you've done a sterling job over on the dementor/anti-dementor thread. Articulate, reasoned, thoughtful - you've batted back everything thrown at you and you're definitely winning over there. Love the fact that MNHQ have been to check it out and decided that the debate can stand. Good, as it should be.

KaronAVyrus · 19/06/2020 15:44

If kids go back to school full time in England then Sturgeon will stick with her blended learning pish. She can’t help herself.

justasking111 · 19/06/2020 15:54

Two outrageous statements I still have not got over where dementors are concerned
. 1. Cheese instead of milk in coffee.

  1. from a supposed teacher "Kids should from now be taught online at home it is the parents responsibility not the teachers to raise children"

They were so batshit crazy, sure others have seen worse. Grin

dkl55 · 19/06/2020 15:55

@Nihiloxica that's exactly what DP said - surely that alone will tip some small businesses over the edge?
@Karonavyrus agreed - that's what I thought too, but possibly Cos I've read it on our thread
@Mascotte - Grin I for one might hyperventilate if i was allowed into a beer garden... so maybe
