Really, really, really petty things that annoy you

(and which have zero impact on your life!)

My list includes:

  • Companies which have the owner's initials as the business name. I have no problem at all with (say) "Clare King Picture Framers", but "CK Picture Framers" winds the shit out of me.
  • Similarly, businesses which merge two names to create one made up word as the name. For example, Clare goes into business with Jenny and they call it "Clajen Picture Framers" Grrrrr!
  • People who use lame examples as brilliant suggestions. E.g. say someone (not me, I assure you!) wanted to organise a really original/unusual theme for a party. The Lamer would say "how about tarts and vicars". Nasty AND boring!

I'm sure I have a million more...

I live just down the road from a fire station and there is also a crossing just outside my living room window.

I have absolutely no problem with the sirens on the fire engines, I chose to live here, that noise is expected and passes quickly.

What fucks me off is so many grown adults, when standing at the crossing and a fire engine goes past, go 'nee naw new naw nee naw' along with it and then after it's driven past too, until they actually cross the road an I can't hear it anymore.

There is NO need, it's like they just can't help themselves. Excited children is forgivable but the hundreds of grown adults who've done it in all the years I've lived here - yeah it fucks me right off.

Do I win a petty prize Grin

blueshoes · 20/06/2020 22:21

hushabusha, the non-folding thing will drive me up the wall. My dcs do that too. Argh. I was born to do military corners.

Lola001 · 21/06/2020 11:33

My DH asking
"are you ready?" as in to take the dog a walk or pop out for two reasons...
Do i look ready when sat in my loungewear? Or doing something completely other, also he expects me to know for what, at non obvious times of day as to what it could be for. Grr

Shinyletsbebadguys · 21/06/2020 12:16

I fully accept I am a pretty grumpy pain in the preverbial so with that fair disclosure

People who post on social media with the faux begging "please can I ask you to ...." or "please please take a minute to read... " then posts about an issue that is widely known and often controversial....its the (completely irrationally seen in my mind I fully accept) faux I'm just a small person so please could you do a favour for me because I caaaarrrreeeeee....ergh I'm a grown damn adult women who mostly keeps up with current events , don't condescend to me and why do you think I am going to suddenly jump and scream about the injustice because some random person on the internet is asking me to ? (Yes yes I know I am a dick). Its a certain tone that drives me nuts every time. It doesnt affect me , I can scroll past and I do , but ergh.

My local town has split the town centre into one way systems because of covid (the actual outdoor walking area) , very sensible I understand why but why in all that is holy do people need to walk three abreast so you can't pass them? And slowly too (again I'm being an arse because I include the elderly and families in this but just bugger off....I'm not having a sodding browse , i need like one thing )

Anyone who beeps their horn when waiting outside a house... ever.

Hmm my rage has not reduced with downtime sadly.

Namechange8471 · 21/06/2020 13:39

Lola001 I can relate. Dp takes ages to actually takes the dogs out, needs his trainers, toilet, wallet car keys etc 🙄.
I’m often stood at the door ready to go, procrastinating twat 😂

MuthaHubbard · 21/06/2020 21:51

Brought instead of bought.

'Oh my husband brought a new bike/dress/ring/house'

Brought it from where to where? He's taken a house from somewhere?!

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 21/06/2020 23:24

@DiddlySquatty

Sorry if this has been done already -

But people adding ‘s onto shop names.

So:
SainsburyS - YES
Marks and SpencerS - YES
Lidl’S - NO
TescoS - NO
Aldis -NO
Waitrose’s - NO

@DiddlySquatty This is rubbish, and, despite being petty, annoys me!

Why is Marks and SpencerS a yes but Waitrose's a NO? (Even ignoring your inconsistent use of apostrophes Hmm)

Fudgecakes · 22/06/2020 00:26

People who are selling on ebay who post multiple photos which are the same... what's the point?....12 photos showing the same view....I want to see back, front, side, close ups of quirky buttons!! It irritates me beyond belief!!

Squeakymarymouse · 22/06/2020 08:09

I've almost cured myself of being a grammar Nazi, but when people spell "queue" "que"...

Bluesheep8 · 22/06/2020 08:21

People who start sentences with the word "so..." particularly when you've asked them a really straightforward question. Makes me think they're really stupid and are having to buy themselves time to answer Hmm

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/06/2020 09:03

@DiddlySquatty i posted the same thing earlier upthread...it drives me mad...someone on Facebook had posted that they'd been to Icelands !!!!Confused

TheRattleBag · 22/06/2020 13:34

The way Matt Berry says, "Money Supermaaaahhhhhket" in the advert.

Instant rage!

HungryForSnacks · 22/06/2020 14:09

When I search on Pinterest for 'narrow hallway ideas' or 'small bathroom layout' and all I get are images of the longest hallways and biggest f-ing bathrooms ever

🤣🤣

Crystal87 · 22/06/2020 16:50

When people incorrectly spell separate words as one word. Alot, allot, incase. I see it all the time.

sueelleker · 22/06/2020 16:59

@Crystal87
I do that sometimes; I don't always press my space-bar hard enough.

Whattheduck · 22/06/2020 17:04

When you look for clothes online and you filter what size you are looking for and the items come up and you click on something and think yes that looks nice click on your size and it’s out of stock annoys the hell out of me
When Dh makes me a drink in a mug that’s not one of my usual mugs
When dd puts the dirty pots on the kitchen side above the dishwasher (is it really that hard to open it and put them in)
Facebook posts letting people know what they’ve had to eat or drink and posting pictures who cares that you are on your 4th glass of Prosecco (aimed at sil who posts pictures every day of what her,dh and her toddler have eaten/drank)

Halfgirlhalfbiscuit · 22/06/2020 19:39

LESS & FEWER being mixed up. I know that makes me a grammar nazi. I wouldn't dream of pulling anyone up on it in person but it really sets my teeth on edge every time I hear something like, "There were less people at the park today than yesterday." In my head I'm screaming, 'fewer, fewer people...because you can count people!'. I learnt grammar from teaching English abroad and once you get your head round the rules it really jars. That said, it's how language changes over time (or we'd all still be speaking like Chaucer) so it's me that needs to get over it.

Actually it's not quite true that I don't pull anyone up on misuse. I pull my husband up on it every single time he gets it wrong, just for comedy value. He's a writer by profession so he should know better!

DuesToTheDirt · 22/06/2020 19:43

Holiday let photos that are endless shots of vases of flowers or cushions, with no views of whole rooms.

HerRoyalNotness · 22/06/2020 19:59

@Windyatthebeach

Dh borrows my car and doesn't put the seat back to my position... Grrrrr..
Same here. Every time, I kind of fall in to the seat when he’s been in it as it’s so low, even if he’s only reversed it onto the road for some reason.
HerRoyalNotness · 22/06/2020 20:01

People saying Legos and Math. No it’s Lego and Maths!

A colleague at work used to say right? or right! At the end of every fucking sentence. Drove me crackers. Then I noticed my brother did it too! Argh.

IHateCoronavirus · 22/06/2020 20:10

Dust jackets and books that selfishly do not match the size of the other books easily. Especially the dickheads of the bookshelves, the short, wide books with few pages Angry

SoftBlocks · 22/06/2020 20:13

DiddlySquatty and username

Absolutely.

SoftBlocks · 22/06/2020 20:15

When people start a sentence with ‘...so’ it gives the impression that they were already in the middle of a story about themselves and the Rest Of The Universe had interrupted it.

MondayYogurt · 22/06/2020 20:36

Online shops that don't have proper sorting/filter options. I don't want to have to look through Dresses And Playsuits - I just want playsuits!

Ditto places with weird EU or US sizing - Just convert it to UK sizes if you have a .co.uk website!

And Selfridges website with the stupid giant photos. My time is precious, don't force me to scroll more than I need to.

GellerYeller · 22/06/2020 20:38

Sorry if either have been done already: people who knock politely, wait precisely two seconds then hammer aggressively on the front door. I'm not Usain Bolt FGS. Also the Manic Street Preachers enrage me inexplicably. I always seethe about why they even bothered when they appear on the radio. If they went in the bin it wouldn't bother me. I'm happy to concede plenty love them but I just can't see the point of them!
