Really, really, really petty things that annoy you

(and which have zero impact on your life!)

My list includes:

 • Companies which have the owner's initials as the business name. I have no problem at all with (say) "Clare King Picture Framers", but "CK Picture Framers" winds the shit out of me.
 • Similarly, businesses which merge two names to create one made up word as the name. For example, Clare goes into business with Jenny and they call it "Clajen Picture Framers" Grrrrr!
 • People who use lame examples as brilliant suggestions. E.g. say someone (not me, I assure you!) wanted to organise a really original/unusual theme for a party. The Lamer would say "how about tarts and vicars". Nasty AND boring!

I'm sure I have a million more...

People who say bye bye bye bye quickly as if the words are getting smaller each time before hanging up (ok dh’s family).

ClapClapClapClap · 18/06/2020 08:54

Oh and I refuse to shops anywhere that uses quirky spelling for their shop name. My favourite sandwich shop rebranded itself to Luv Ur Sarnie and I never ate there again.

MargotB7 · 18/06/2020 08:56

People that call everyone "Sweetheart".

TheCanyon · 18/06/2020 08:57

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

'The Scottish Borders'

'Scottish Borders Council'

Scotland has precisely ONE fucking BORDER

What would you prefer it was called? The Scottish county next to England?
Sizedoesmatter · 18/06/2020 08:58

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

Que...It's fucking queue people! I've seen it so many times over the past couple of weeks my head might explode.
What about 'underline condition'... I can't even believe the amount of times I've seen people write that 🤦‍♀️ UNDERLYING!!!!!!!!!
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 18/06/2020 09:06

size I haven't seen that yet, thank God Grin
@Lifeisconfusing

Do people still do that?

Always reminds me of what old people did back in the day....
Yep, I know someone who does this too

Trepidatious · 18/06/2020 09:08

People who say "lay" when they mean "lie". If someone says "I was laying on my bed, when..." I imagine them squatting on their duvet over an ever-increasing pile of eggs.

Ragwort · 18/06/2020 09:10

People who slurp their coffee/tea when they drink ... it is just so off putting. I've got a lovely, charming, helpful colleague who does this really loudly .. he's such a lovely guy, 40 & single & would live to meet someone ... but it must put people off, how do I politely mention it?

LHMBF · 18/06/2020 09:15

Trepidatious 😂😂😂

And indulge in lay ins. Which sounds like a lot of people all laying eggs together on a weekend morning.

@musketeersmama Thank god you said this!

thought I was the only one to find the creaky voice thing irritating! My DD 13 and I were watching Glow Up and the presenter Stacey has the most annoying creaky voice. It irritated my DD more than me much to my delight.

I dislike accents anyway but Stacey Dooley's voice winds me up. The dropped T and H's. World pronounced wairld. I know I'm petty...

Eyelashe · 18/06/2020 09:51

I like the typo on the first page of this thread of people who stop to chat in shipping lanes. (blares horn from my supertanker)

I had a delightful fling once with someone who called me Madam and it kinda worked, it was all Victorian and sexy. But not from people in shops, granted.

DH doesn't have any sense that there is a towel for each member of the household & they get washed and replaced regularly. Literally just grabs the nearest one and uses a different one, from the selection of current towels at the end of the bath, every time.

MondeoFan · 18/06/2020 09:56

Cold drinks from the fridge being drunk out of a mug. Just use a glass.

People calling children "kids"

People in my house helping themselves to cereal and not folding down the inner bag, so next time you go to the cereal it is stale.

All the rest are to do with spellings. Keep seeing "isle" lately instead of "aisle" and "no" instead of "know" really infuriates me

goldenochre · 18/06/2020 09:59

Love this thread 😂

 1. A guy at work, sits opposite me and eats cheese balls all day.. crunch crunch crunch aaargh!
 2. DH never placing his shoes in the shoe cabinet (drives me crazy but i sigh and put it away)
 3. A lady I know uses "lush" for every stupid thing she has! "Lunch was so lush", had a lush bath, lush coffee FFS! All her posts contain "lush" in it.. dinner was so and so and it was so lush 🤮

I will sign any petition that gives shoppers a supertanker horn to use on aisle-blockers.

People eating apples - the prolonged crunching just gets on my nerves, other loud eating noises don’t bother me, just the apples.

People who write ‘goals’ after everything. Squad goals, couple goals, hair goals.

A pp already mentioned this and I laughed because my mil does it - when she rings and goes to say bye, she says it about 15 times in a row, so we end up doing the same, I don’t get it , just say BYE, and put the phone down!

notso · 18/06/2020 10:15

someone on fb this week said that they'd been to 'Icelands'.....wtf !!!!

Ha! MIL says Matalands which has lead it to being called The Forbidden Lands of Mata in our house.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/06/2020 10:26

@YouDirtyMare I do the washing line thing Blush

bottleofbeer · 18/06/2020 10:33

My husband has a thing about cleaning products and bathroom products. Two different shampoos? He will mix them together to get rid of an empty bottle. Different smelling fabric conditioner? Same and it ANNOYS ME SO MUCH.

I had a go about it yesterday because I use a certain shower gel as it doesn't irritate my psoriasis. Yes, he'd mixed it up with another random one then had the cheek to have a go at me about 'not needing that many'.

How about I mix a few cyanide pills in with your hayfever tablets so I can get rid of an empty box?

YouDirtyMare · 18/06/2020 10:34

Arrrrgh you minger 🤣

Imissmoominmama · 18/06/2020 10:35

@ClapClapClapClap- on the other hand, I see the irritation on the face of those who’ve offered me a drink when I ask for a really weak coffee. It’s no harder to make when you’re using instant, but being specific seems to annoy people!

Imissmoominmama · 18/06/2020 10:35

@PrincessHoneysuckle- so so I... 🤫

LHMBF · 18/06/2020 10:47

bottleofbeer that's infuriating! That would really annoy me as well

bottleofbeer · 18/06/2020 11:01

Thank you! I'm glad somebody else recognises how annoying this is.

I queued in pissing rain to get that shower gel last week and now it's entirely useless to me.

Why isn't one shampoo enough? Because my hair is bleached and needs something a bit more moisturising than the lidl stuff you favour! Grrrrr.
