Really, really, really petty things that annoy you

(and which have zero impact on your life!)

My list includes:

  • Companies which have the owner's initials as the business name. I have no problem at all with (say) "Clare King Picture Framers", but "CK Picture Framers" winds the shit out of me.
  • Similarly, businesses which merge two names to create one made up word as the name. For example, Clare goes into business with Jenny and they call it "Clajen Picture Framers" Grrrrr!
  • People who use lame examples as brilliant suggestions. E.g. say someone (not me, I assure you!) wanted to organise a really original/unusual theme for a party. The Lamer would say "how about tarts and vicars". Nasty AND boring!

I'm sure I have a million more...

Those fucking plastic charity bags. It's been a glorious 3 months without them, todays one really fucked me off.

Winederlust · 17/06/2020 21:23

Oh yes, 'can I get' gives me the rage...no, but you can HAVE a slap!

People who pull up at a junction in a right turn only lane, and then put on their indicator, or indicate once they're half way round the corner.

musketeersmama · 17/06/2020 21:24

@Mimilamore just burst out laughing at this - I thought I was the only one to find the creaky voice thing irritating! My DD 13 and I were watching Glow Up and the presenter Stacey has the most annoying creaky voice. It irritated my DD more than me much to my delight.

Also cannot stand the incorrect usage of:
myself instead of me
Loose/lose
Breathe/breath
Bear/bare
It’s Divine not devine & Etc not & ect & could have not could of
The rage.
I could go on...(oh and there are only THREE dots in an ellipsis)

Winederlust · 17/06/2020 21:26

Oh and people who chew soup and yogurt.

Squidwitch · 17/06/2020 21:30

Pacifically.

"I pacifically asked for no cheese'

My guess is you were too gentle then.

StursAlign · 17/06/2020 21:30

People who don't tell you the name or weight in a baby announcement (even though the weight is absolutely useless information).
Similarly, the tasteful photos of their kids on Facebook where you can't actually see their kids, just them from behind or a shot of their toes or something. I wish they wouldn't bother.

Notthecarwashagain · 17/06/2020 21:32

Yes to noisy sneezers! Make me jump, and then feel furious! There is no reason to say "Atchoo!"

I also really hate receiving texts like this: So that didn't go well...
Or : Got a bit of a telling off...
Just say what happened, and avoid the whole pantomime of me having to ask 'Why?' even though I don't want to, because it's so bloody annoying.

NC4Now · 17/06/2020 21:33

Pegs left on the washing line when the clothes have been brought in. Gives me the absolute rage.

starsinyourpies · 17/06/2020 21:40

My colleague from 10 years ago who used to say 'skellington' instead of skeleton.

People who say 'Pacific' instead of specific.

Not ok.

sanityisamyth · 17/06/2020 21:43

"The flu" really really pisses me off. You wouldn't say that someone's has the cancer or the arthritis or the eczema 😡

People leaving finger marks/wipe marks on windows (especially car windows) so when it mists up you can see the marks suddenly appear 😡

People that put an 's' on the names of shops like Tesco or Lidl. It's not Tescos or Lidls.

Squidwitch · 17/06/2020 21:46

DH not wiping table after the toddlers have had their troughs. Next mealtime approaches and I have to get a paint scraper/ pressure washer/ bio hazard kit to remove the gruesome crusty aftermath. DH, you are not visually impaired, you CAN see it.

Fleamaker123 · 17/06/2020 21:48

When you drive into a huge car park with rows and rows of empty spaces... park your car somewhere remote... go to open the door and someone pulls up and parks right next to you. Then the passenger stares at you blankly through the window and you have to mouth and signal as to who's going to get out first. Or you have to squeeze yourself out. You've got the whole car park, bugger off!

Lifeisconfusing · 17/06/2020 21:48

Mine are!!

People calling me Hun.

Children/people taking selfies with a pout.

Bad manners not saying thanks for opening doors etc.

Swearing in front of children.

People who don’t listen to you and interrupt.

The bin man annoyed me yesterday as a bird had dragged food out the neighbours recycling bin and the bin man didn’t pick the rubbish of the ground when he emptied the bin.

When you are getting served in a shop and the staff are talking to each other and ignoring you like your invisible.

When your in shop and they ask if you want a bag when you have bought loads of clothes for eg!!

When people brag on fb with a million presents at Xmas and say santies been (god I hate it so much)

It makes me cringe when a man I know of puts on fb how much he loves his wife with loads of selfies when he’s actually cheating on her.

Big fake lips and fake teeth with the description (no filter🤪)

Children who are filtered.

I could go on 🤣😂🤣😅

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/06/2020 21:49

You lot are majestically petty, well done!!

Mail that looks like someone hand write your address but it's really a font
People who use a swirly font for their name in emails. Do you think it fools anyone? Ever?
Local (women) council staff are buggers for this!

Stacey Dooley when she says
"May you please go next door..."
May you please?!?!

When you are getting served in a shop and the staff are talking to each other and ignoring you like your invisible.

This is infuriating!

Also when returning things (remember those days), you would be literally hand in purse pulling the receipt out and they say "do you have the receipt?"
No love, I was just about to do some dramatic origami to entertain you!

(And when their card machine software is fractionally faster. Your finger is obviously poised. You are equally obviously peering closely at the screen and they tell you to enter your PIN. I FUCKING CAN'T UNTIL IT SAYS SO!!!

Brilliant thread! And a hearty YES to the London telephone format! It makes me irrationally angry.

Also, “Westminister”... it’s West-min-ster. There is no extra ‘i’. It particularly winds me up when tube announcers say it wrong.

Lifeisconfusing · 17/06/2020 21:57

@beelola I think that’s a sign of having a tick

AlCalavicci · 17/06/2020 21:58

@nomorefencepostsplease
The PI Number thing annoys me too
as does PAT Testing , it is PA Testing or Portable Appliance Testing .

Redorange42 · 17/06/2020 22:00

Oh where do I start!!

People who dont dispose of rubbish/recycling properly. Every time my sister comes around she puts coke cans in the general waste instead of the recycling bin

Anyone who just flicks fag ends into the street/out of car windows. Disgusting.

People who get 'to' and 'too' mixed up. I have a family member who posted a facebook status recently saying something like ''went too my mums today too have a catch up'' - shes in her late 30s and I am amazed she doesn't understand the difference by now. I had to unfollow her!

I had a friend at college who used to get the phrases "then again'' and ''yet again'' mixed up

People who park so badly that nobody can park next to them. Especially when its busy.

Anyone who says kiddies or kiddos

Adults who refer to themselves or another parent as a mumma/momma/mamma. I'm pregnant and I've had SO many people say things like ''ooo you'll be a momma soon!''. No I wont. I'll be a mum soon.

My OH squeezes the toothpaste tube near the opening instead of rolling the end down. So we end up with no toothpaste near the opening to squeeze out but lots of toothpaste at the bottom of the tube and I have to un-squeeze it and roll it down to access all the trapped toothpaste

I'm sure I can think of at least 10 more things but these are just off the top of my head Grin

howdidigettobe50something · 17/06/2020 22:00

I agree with so many of these... Also when people say they are making a meal with corn when they mean Quorn!

merryhouse · 17/06/2020 22:01

@Molocosh www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-31040334#:~:text=%22It's%20up%20to%20you%20how,basically%2C%22%20a%20spokeswoman%20says.

RiftGibbon · 17/06/2020 22:02

"Haitch"
Every time I hear it I want to scream.

Doryhunky · 17/06/2020 22:03

Commuters who take their coats off on crowded trains for 20 minute journeys!

Lifeisconfusing · 17/06/2020 22:04

@BuzzShitbagBobbly I’m
With you on the card machine 😂😂

I also used to hate it when people would fuss over my baby but ignore my toddler! I always make a point in talking to the toddler/child first as the baby doesn't have a clue but the child does.

Lifeisconfusing · 17/06/2020 22:07

Oh and when people answer the phone

With the phone number 😂😂
