I let mine explore the house generally except our cellar. Do watch out for them getting shut in cupboards as pp said and also for escaping out of the front door. That was our main adjustment - not leaving the front door open ever, eg while unloading car or chatting to neighbour, unless we are sure the cat is shut behind the kitchen/other door - as otherwise she could run out into the road.

She's a beauty and Arla is a gorgeous name.

Be aware that some cats are 'up' cats and like to hide high and some are 'down' cats who like boxes and so on. It appears they are descendants of wildcats who behaved that way.

We have an ' Up' cat but we have learnt to provide lots of climbing and viewing spots around the house: he just doesn't seem to recognise the benefits of boxes and under-table type spots. Our relationship with him improved 100% when we realised what type he was and could play with him accordingly and have safe spots around the house up away from prying eyes.

Thanks lady - we had an up cat who. I was a kid so I have been observing but she seems to hide under things when left rather than up high so that’s clear.

Very interesting that she seems to generally being near me and the kids and in particular she waits till I’m nearby to eat. So I put food out then was doing stuff upstairs and came back, she was miaowing all round my legs when I was in the kitchen away from her food, when we walked together back to her food she started eating - even tho she has been with her full plate of food for an hour or so...???! Maybe this a security thing - she sees me as protector so she can relax and eat when I’m nearby? Is this typical of young cats? I thought they wanted to be ignored!! Just glad she is eating anyhoo. She has been very relaxed today, more chilling on the sofa and less prowling around on alert 😅

This is my rescue cat 2 years on. She's an indoor cat as too scared to go outside bless her!! It's taken sooo long for her to relax but she's very affectionate now.

I like the look of your new cat OP, she looks very sweet.

@Angliski
So sorry to hear about lovely Fat Brian. I'm sure he would approve of your new cats.

The amazing thing about human hearts is how much they can expand to accommodate more love. Wishing you all the best with your rescue pair 🐈 🐈
