We've booked a holiday!

Dh and I have just booked a holiday for next month. I am so looking forward to it even though I'm aware there is a chance it may not happen.

It's a week in a self-catering cottage in Suffolk. We chose one with a lovely garden where we can sit in the evenings if the pubs aren't open.

I'm just looking forward to a change of scene.

Anyone else got a holiday planned?

I'm so envious! I really want to follow your example now!

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 08:08

Sounds lovely.

I'm planning a few nights away, maybe in a couple of cities. Can't wait!

mdh2020 · 16/06/2020 08:09

Sorry to be a downer but have you checked the cleaning routine at the cottage?
I’m afraid we have rescheduled our cottage booked for August to next year.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/06/2020 08:09

We just got to the point of thinking "sod it - let's just book something". Its only a week, we will probably try to get away in the autumn as well but will wait before we book anything then.

We love Suffolk and usually do go away every summer for a week there.

Can I be cheeky and ask what you paid? I've seen static caravans going for 1k per week. I'm too scared to look at cottages

The cottage will be deep cleaned before we arrive. At the moment it's not booked for the week before us but that could change.

We have our summer holiday booked, a cottage in the UK seaside which we booked last year. We go in mid August which is still hopefully going ahead but we have just booked 3 nights in a caravan at Mablethorpe in mid July just for a change of scene! Even if nothings open we can spend a couple of days on the beach and outside in the warm out on the decking once the kids are in bed at night.

We paid £700. It's a 2 bedroomed cottage with a large garden in a pretty village near (but not on) the coast. 3km to the sea.

I’m very tempted to book a cottage or lodge for the summer holidays. Just worried that if I book it now and the government don’t allow hospitality to open up on July 4th I’ll lose my money. But also worried that if I don’t book now then the prices will shoot up nearer the time or they’ll all get booked up. What to do?

SisterAgatha · 16/06/2020 08:24

Tempted, very tempted. Just afraid to go in to lockdown again and have to claw back the money like with the other 3 holidays we had cancelled.

Angelonia · 16/06/2020 08:27

That sounds lovely OP. Enjoy!

MrsBobDylan · 16/06/2020 08:29

I am hopeful they will open our static caravan site in July - if they do I'm spending the whole summer there. Got everything crossed!

I know what you mean about the change of scenery op.

LaureBerthaud · 16/06/2020 08:34

Let's hope the dementors don't arrive and accuse you of taking the Plague to the good folk of Suffolk Grin

Have you just paid a deposit, OP? When do they want you to pay in full?

Nquartz · 16/06/2020 08:45

We've already got a week booked right at the end of August at the seaside. If we're allowed to go We'll take our bikes & we'll have the beach if other attractions aren't open. We'll just be happy to see a different set of walls & go on some different walks!

We can cancel 2 weeks before with a full refund so it's low risk.

The one we booked had a policy of full refund if the government doesn't lift the restrictions on holiday cottages as expected.

I've booked a week in a s/c cottage on the coast an hour away from us at the end of August, booked it a few weeks ago as i'm fairly sure it will go ahead.

Now considering booking a campsite for a week at the beginning of the school holidays.

Glitterb · 16/06/2020 09:18

We’ve just booked a few long weekends away later in the year with the dog. Looking forward to it!

Dollywilde · 16/06/2020 09:19

The week before lockdown we booked a cottage in the Norfolk broads for a long weekend with our as yet unborn DC who will be 14 weeks at most, probably, when we go.

On the one hand, yes we’re likely to be complete zombies at that point. On the other hand, it has walks, pubs (hopefully), a hot tub which I can have a glass of wine in and even if we’re up at all hours it’s Not Our Own House, which I’ve been trapped in since March. I cannot bloody wait. It’s given me something to look forward to given the two pre-baby holidays we had planned were taken from us. My last opportunity to get on a plane without a screaming child for a while - when they cancelled it I cried Blush

So I’m all for having something to look forward to OP!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/06/2020 11:38

@dollywilde how exciting. I remember going away for a week in a cottage when ds1 was about 3 months old and it was lovely. I hope you have a lovely time

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 11:45

We’ve booked one too, in Devon. It’s on its own in the middle of nowhere (approx 5 miles from the beach) and has a hot tub and bbq and a private lake nearby that we can book time slots at, so worst case scenario we’ll just stay around the cottage. Can’t wait.
With regards to cleaning, I will be happy with whatever normal cleaning procedures are followed.

Nquartz · 16/06/2020 11:59

Re: cleaning.... we'll probably take cleaning spray or wipes & give surfaces/door handles etc a quick once over when we arrive.

TreacherousPissFlap · 16/06/2020 12:11

We've re-booked for the end of August, just a week in Brittany.
Our main holiday was cancelled and I was wary of prices rocketing and there being limited availability later on. We've only paid £99 deposit and are prepared to lose that if necessary.
Travelling by ferry so less of an issue but we will make a decision closer to the time.

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/06/2020 12:14

We've recently booked one for mid August. We have checked the cleaning routine, no issues with that. We have stayed with this owner before and always been happy with their standards.

Thurlow · 16/06/2020 12:17

We cracked and booked a week in August by the sea. At this stage I literally don't care if NOTHING is open, I just want to look at some different walks and go on some different walks

LimitIsUp · 16/06/2020 12:19

We've booked a cottage - it has a covid friendly cancellation arrangement whereby we can cancel up to 48 hours before the holiday and receive our money back. Peace of mind
