We've booked a holiday!

Dh and I have just booked a holiday for next month. I am so looking forward to it even though I'm aware there is a chance it may not happen.

It's a week in a self-catering cottage in Suffolk. We chose one with a lovely garden where we can sit in the evenings if the pubs aren't open.

I'm just looking forward to a change of scene.

Anyone else got a holiday planned?

And as I managed to book the only free week between July and October it seems some plenty of others don’t agree either Smile. I don’t think I’ve ever actually been to an attraction on holiday.

Mrskeats · 16/06/2020 16:54

Yep. I work from home normally so need a break away from my desk.
And surely the economy needs us.

ScrapThatThen · 16/06/2020 16:57

I contacted ours for end of July today. They have changed check in time to 5 pm to allow for cleaning. There will be pre bookable slots for the swimming pool if it's allowed to open, there are tennis courts and it's near countryside/coast. I checked the owners were happy in principle to accept guests and that's what they told me. We are low risk. Wouldn't travel if ill or self isolating. I guess that would be a bummer.

shinynewapple2020 · 16/06/2020 16:59

We've recently had to cancel a cottage booked in North Wales for the end of June. I'm really hoping that we'll be able to go later in the Summer, but I've not seen any suggestions of dates for lockdown easing in Wales.

We have a holiday booked for Portugal early Autumn which is looking promising at the moment , quarantine depending.

TheOnlyMrsW · 16/06/2020 17:01

We have a long weekend booked in July in a self-catering cottage near Hay-on-Wye for July, and I'm eyeing up a week towards the end of August elsewhere in the UK. We have had three holidays cancelled so far, DD's birthday trip to London and two school trips so I need something to look forward to.
@CoolShoeshine if you look on AirBnB a lot of their properties are advertising cancellation 48 hours in advance and just lose the cleaning fee you so it's worth checking.
TBH if we can get a cheap week to Europe in August I haven't ruled it out.

icansmellburningleaves · 16/06/2020 17:03

Off to Cornwall in august.

shinynewapple2020 · 16/06/2020 17:57

Any one daring to book Wales for later in the Summer in the hope of lockdown easing there?

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 18:08

There's no way I'm fighting my way out of Scotland to fight my way into Wales! 😂

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/06/2020 18:20

@PetiteMuffin

I can’t wait to be able to get away... even if it’s just to sit in a different 4 walls lol!

Only problem is OP that the government haven’t allowed holidays yet (unless I’ve missed something!). I really hope there’ll be an announcement soon to allow nights away and definitely fingers crossed for you to be able to go away.

Yes it's a gamble but one we thought we would take as the agreement is that we get our money returned if the holiday can't take place due to government restrictions.

We should have been flying to Italy next week for a week of walking in the Dolomites followed by a week of cycling. A week of cycling round Suffolk won't be as exciting (or as hilly!) but we will enjoy it. If the pub beer gardens are open that will be a bonus but we have booked a cottage with a garden so that we can eat there instead if necessary

Would you mind mentioning which company you used please? I’m thinking of booking one in August and not sure which one to use

Longdistance · 16/06/2020 18:42

We have three days booked end of August in Suffolk and hoping the air B and B in Norfolk will be available after our three days. We’re in contact with the owner in Norfolk.
Maybe the Caribbean will have to wait til next year 🌞

hartof · 16/06/2020 18:57

22nd June will be when it's announced that they will reopen. England 4th July, Wales 9th and Scotland 14th. All owners have to have a risk assessment visit and adhere to strict cleaning rules. The official people (not sure who they are) have said there is no need for 72 hours between guests, you may just have to check out/in earlier or later.

SomewhereEast · 16/06/2020 19:09

Hope you have a good holiday! I'm still hoping we might manage our usual summer visit to my family / home country in August.

bubbleup · 16/06/2020 19:19

@hartof

Where are you getting that information? Isn't the next review 25th June?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/06/2020 19:19

We’ve booked a week in Devon mid August - s/c near the sea. I can’t wait for a change of scenery Smile

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 16/06/2020 19:25

I've just booked a week to Corfu for us and the the two kids. Was a bargain to... £230 for return flights for 4 of us a week in August and our favourite hotel dropped their rates fit us and it's just 350 euro for the week for all 4 of us. £100 car hire and it's cheaper for a week abroad in August than it is in a caravan in haven in the uk! The kids are so excited, they have not been anywhere this year and ask birthday parties etc have been cancelled. Just hoping this goes ahead but if not I'll get a refund and put it towards their next holiday to Disney.

MintyCedric · 16/06/2020 19:27

Nothing booked yet but looking at a weekend away with DD prom dress/accessory shopping in October (for next June).

Tempting fate on every level!

Whattodowithaminute · 16/06/2020 19:34

We’ve just booked a couple of short breaks through the summer, SC which is fine for us, change of scenery and will force DH to take some time off of work which we all need. If it gets cancelled due to changes to rules then we can rebook which is fine for us.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/06/2020 19:37

@IAmReportingYouForBBQing
That sounds fab - we’re hoping to get a week abroad in October 🤞🏻

EnlightenedOwl · 16/06/2020 19:42

Just booked premier inn 3 nights in north Yorkshire for end of October. Premier inn refunded our April booking for Edinburgh in full and I booked with a cancellation option. 3 x nights for 2 less than 250 quid. I don't book meals as we eat out of the hotel. It's a gamble but we have cancel options. Sadly Sykes cottages will not refund our summer holiday deposit 207 quid Hmm

mum2jakie · 16/06/2020 19:57

We pay the remainder of our deposit this week. Looking forward to a week in a cottage in Cornwall. Change of environment if nothing else

mum2jakie · 16/06/2020 19:58

But Sykes have sacrificed their reputation over how they have dealt with refunds. Would never book through them or any associated companies again! Sure they will blame Covid when they go bump, rather than reflecting on their response to customers...

EnlightenedOwl · 16/06/2020 20:37

Ditto I will never use Sykes again.

We booked through Suffolk Secrets

@IAmReportingYouForBBQing Bloody hell, what a bargain 👍. God I'm jealous!
