We've booked a holiday!

Dh and I have just booked a holiday for next month. I am so looking forward to it even though I'm aware there is a chance it may not happen.

It's a week in a self-catering cottage in Suffolk. We chose one with a lovely garden where we can sit in the evenings if the pubs aren't open.

I'm just looking forward to a change of scene.

Anyone else got a holiday planned?

Same here, different scenery and different walks is all we need

CoolShoeshine · 16/06/2020 14:10

Would people mind letting me know what companies they are booking through which have decent covid cancellation policies? I want to book!! Grin

PlugUgly1980 · 16/06/2020 14:15

We've got numerous campsites booked throughout the summer, all booked pre-lockdown, so hoping at least some will open, especially as we can be self-contained with our toilet and wash facilities. But also booked a holiday cottage today for for October half term week, as we missed out on our Easter and May weeks.

TeapotCollection · 16/06/2020 14:20

We’ve got a static caravan and we’re absolutely desperate to get to it. We’re quietly hoping for 4th July 🤞

ClashCityRocker · 16/06/2020 14:50

Do we know when they'll confirm the 4th July date yet?

The place we go to is planning to open 4th July, but this is of course subject to government given them the green light.

okiedokieme · 16/06/2020 14:56

Short one in September, hoping still to get to Scotland before it gets too dark in the evenings and the ferry ride gets too hairy

TeapotCollection · 16/06/2020 15:05

4th July is the date that’s been given subject to certain things happening. A lot of holiday companies are taking bookings from that date but (just my opinion) I don’t expect confirmation until the next lockdown review on 25th June

LockdownLoppy · 16/06/2020 15:29

I have booked a cottage in Pembroke for a week in August - I can cancel up to 48 hours before. It's only an hour from home as I didn't want to travel far but we are really hoping we will be able to go - I don't really care about things being open I just want a change of scenery!!!

Wiaa · 16/06/2020 15:38

We're going to a small Yorkshire seaside town at the end of July (parkdean). We're not expecting to be able to use the facilities but are looking forward to the change of scenery. Dc are 1 and 4 so would mostly have eaten in the caravan anyway but we can still have a takeaway and proper seaside fish and chips.

Flippetydip · 16/06/2020 15:57

Is anyone taking insurance for cancellation for UK holidays?

SisterAgatha · 16/06/2020 16:11

I have insurance for mine and they won’t pay out. I doubt insurance would cover you for a holiday that’s probably only about 60% likely to happen if there is a second wave. This is what’s making me think I won’t book one. Even though I want to!

hazelnutlatte · 16/06/2020 16:18

We have a cottage holiday booked for mid August, we booked after our May half term caravan holiday was cancelled. Thought a cottage would be better than a caravan as we are assuming all of the shared facilities you normally get with a caravan holiday will be closed - we normally love a caravan holiday with the kids but never spend much time in the van itself!
Hoping we are allowed to go, just for the change of scenery if nothing else. The cottage is walking distance to a beach so as long as the weather is ok the kids will enjoy thrmselves

Doje · 16/06/2020 16:24

We've booked for August too. Unfortunately it's in Wales, and we are not. We booked through Sykes and if our plans are effected by Covid we can move to another week. We figured we'd rather take the chance to just 'be' somewhere else before school gets going in September. I don't care if nothing is open, I just want the chance to walk in different surroundings!! Worst case is we have to push the holiday to Christmas / Easter / next summer as we've booked two weeks.

Nosuchluck · 16/06/2020 16:31

I've booked a Monday to Friday break at a hotel near a beach. We have a sea view room with a balcony and will have breakfast and dinner at the hotel. I'm looking forward to some coastal walks and eating chips on the beach, also it will be great to have time with just my DH (were leaving 20 and 21 year olds at home).
It's been positive for me, I've now motivated to lose my lockdown weight and I've bought some new outfit s to wear.s
It's funny my whole fami!y had originally booked to go on a cruise that would have cost about 12 times more than this little holiday but I'm looking forward to this one just as much.

Mrskeats · 16/06/2020 16:33

We have booked the Peak District for the end of August also a cottage. Need something to look forward to.

Spidey66 · 16/06/2020 16:34

I own a holiday let in Cornwall and have suspended booking until the beginning of September.

The cleaners are saying they will not go in until 3 days after guests have left, and then do a deep clean rather than a standard one. We book the property out from Saturday to Saturday so this would mean one week on/one week off. So less bookings but higher cleaning costs.

Cornwall's rates of Covid19 are still increasing so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone in the party may develop symptoms while there and the whole party has to self isolate for up to 14 days....longer if one of the self isolating but symptomless then develops symptoms towards the end of the 14 days. So a weeks stay ends up more like a month, then others haven't been able to go in and the cleaners will wait 3 days....unlikely I know but I ain't taking the risk. Even best case scenario is the week on and week off example.

I thought long and hard but decided it was too much of a logistical and financial nightmare and suspended bookings.

Spidey66 · 16/06/2020 16:38

Tbh I don't think UK holidays will be great. The pubs and restaurants etc will be open, yeah, but the social distancing will mean it's difficult to get tables and the queues fo shops and attractions will be a nightmare. I think to be realistic we need to write off this summer tbh. Hard, I know.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 16/06/2020 16:38

We have a lodge booked in Devon in mid July. Only paid the deposit so far but have to pay the rest on Friday. Will call on Friday and see what’s what. Things are going to be opening up a little more. Again, we only want different scenery and the hot tub so not too fussed if we have nothing else to do. Just to walk somewhere different would be glorious!

Vdubcampa · 16/06/2020 16:46

Planned and booked a tour round north of England in our motorhome. Pay on arrival so no risk (club members) for mid July. Looking forward to it!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/06/2020 16:48

Because of this thread I've booked a b & b in bridlington at the end of july🤞.Free cancellation

Mrskeats · 16/06/2020 16:49

I disagree spidey
We are going to go on walks and have nice bbqs. A change of scenery going to be great.

Littlepond · 16/06/2020 16:50

We still have our August cottage booked but we will need to travel by train to get there. I’m not sure this will be allowed ☹️

AriettyHomily · 16/06/2020 16:52

@mrskeats totally agree - we just need a change of scenery!! If I'm stuck in the house here I may as well be stuck in a house with a sea view and coastal walks.

Drivingdownthe101 · 16/06/2020 16:52

I think to be realistic we need to write off this summer tbh. Hard, I know

I don’t agree. As I said, we have a cottage with a hot tub and bbq and a bookable private lake nearby. Quiet beach 5 miles away. Even if we can’t go to a restaurant or ‘attraction’, we’ll enjoy it. Better than walking around the same village I’ve been stuck in for the majority of the past 3 months anyway.
You’re of course welcome to write it off, but I won’t be Smile.

PetiteMuffin · 16/06/2020 16:54

I can’t wait to be able to get away... even if it’s just to sit in a different 4 walls lol!

Only problem is OP that the government haven’t allowed holidays yet (unless I’ve missed something!). I really hope there’ll be an announcement soon to allow nights away and definitely fingers crossed for you to be able to go away.
