Cheeky NHS worker

DH was out getting some shopping and overheard a woman telling her friend 'just spent £380 in there (sports direct) should have been £760. I'll double it online'

DH was mildly horrified, I'm secretly impressed Grin what do you think?

itbemay1 · 15/06/2020 19:56

I don't understand, did the NHS workers get a discount?

Smallsteps88 · 15/06/2020 19:58

She thinks people will pay full price for sports direct store stuff off her when they can buy it at full price in the store themselves or at reduced price online?

More fool her. Hope she has a big wardrobe.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 15/06/2020 20:11

No, they were doing 50% off in Sports Direct today for NHS workers.

itbemay1 · 15/06/2020 20:13

@Iwouldlikesomecake makes sense now. Didn't realise there was 50% off for NHS today. Thx

Pixxie7 · 15/06/2020 20:13

All NHS workers got 50 per cent of today. Whilst it obviously great for them, what about the other key workers?

teaflake · 15/06/2020 20:16

I hope she's stuck with it.

MissCowell · 15/06/2020 20:18

Wow so cheeky. I hope no one wants to buy it.

LadyFeliciaMontague · 15/06/2020 20:19

I hope she's stuck with it

Yep because they don’t do refunds Grin

YaWeeSkitter · 15/06/2020 20:20

Good on her. If she was prepared to queue for an unknown amount of time and then enter the horror that is Sports direct then shes welcome to whatever she can get. I only ever went into the place when DD was looking for trainers and I was paying. Once she got old enough to shop for herself I waited for her in the foodcourt.

Coolcatsandkittens · 15/06/2020 20:21

@Pixxie7 I thought that too

AIMD · 15/06/2020 20:23

Meh ... imagine it’ll take hours of work to post for sale and arrange collection etc. Probably won’t get as much from out as she thinks she will.

dicdicnurse · 15/06/2020 20:24

Not All NHS workers! Only those in England.

Shanghaisue · 15/06/2020 20:33

And more a management decision. Take it up with them rather than a whinge about nhs workers. Not exactly their fault is it ?

FromMarch2020 · 15/06/2020 20:48

Wow 50% off - I also hope she is stuck with it.

Hopefully other key workers will get some discounts too...

Iwouldlikesomecake · 15/06/2020 21:55

I really needed some new trainers but couldn't be arsed to go out Grin

Sandybval · 15/06/2020 21:59

Good for her if she was buying it all for herself, if she's buying it to sell on hahaha good luck.

converseandjeans · 15/06/2020 23:05

It's bizarre that all NHS staff get money off even if they're just doing their normal job (in some cases quieter than usual because of cancelled treatments).
What about police, undertakers, refuse collectors, shop staff etc who have been frontline all through the pandemic?

OhYeahYouSuck · 15/06/2020 23:36

How exactly is everyone else supposed to prove they are keyworkers? NHS staff have ID and they get discounts based on the fact that many have put themselves in danger by working closely with/near COVID-19 patients. How can people not see the difference fgs.

Well, they just aren't heroes are they? Hmm

ChasingRainbows19 · 16/06/2020 06:14

There goes the NHS staff bashing again..... ( not OP) it's not the fault of NHS staff if we are offered discounts and others aren't. Of course other keyworkers should get them too. Direct your concern to the businesses that mostly do it for marketing purposes anyway. I've barely used any of the perks or offers as I've been in work!

Also just because people aren't on a covid ward it doesn't mean they haven't been directly affected. Not all of us are sat on our arses. Lots of redeployment and restructure, changes to ways of working never mind 27 degree wards with PPE. Its draining and It's been difficult.

Deathraystare · 16/06/2020 10:17

NHS worker but not knee deep in covid cases...(or am I?).

I knew about the sports direct but no way was I going out to get any sports stuff even if I wanted too! I really want to get into Primark but again not the first day! Having seen the morons fighting to get into Nike I decided to stay at home! Most of the morons were not wearing masks!

heartsonacake · 16/06/2020 10:25

Of course they will.

Years before the pandemic people have been buying items from Primark/Sports Direct and selling them on eBay for double/triple the price. It’s a good business to be in; lots of money to be made.

x2boys · 16/06/2020 10:41

If she wants to.queue for hrs and spend a fortune in the hope she will double it good for her ,There have always been NHS discounts btw ,when I was a nurse the local night club.Used to let people in for a £1 with an NHS pass and also.other services a boyfriend at the time was in the Navy and he got in for a £1 too.cheap night for us😂

oo0Tinkerbell0oo · 16/06/2020 11:00

Why bash NHS staff for taking advantage of offers that are there for them. It's not our fault that other key workers aren't included, complain to the organisations involved. Of course all key workers should be included but how do all prove without photographic id who they work for. I personally haven't used my badge for NHS hours or getting in before people standing in the queue, but anyone who does is not doing anything wrong, they are only taking an opportunity that's been offered.

FixTheBone · 16/06/2020 11:08

Everyone debating whether or not NHS workers should get a discount...

Nobody has really mentioned how morally dubious it is to abuse a charitable gesture for personal profit. There will always be people able to spot an opportunity, but this is pretty low in my book, it deprives other people of being able to access the same benefit if she's gone ahead and snaffled up all the most popular items.
