DH was out getting some shopping and overheard a woman telling her friend 'just spent £380 in there (sports direct) should have been £760. I'll double it online'

DH was mildly horrified, I'm secretly impressed Grin what do you think?

I doubt Sports direct have done it out of the Goodness of their hearts @FixTheBone ,it makes them look good

What about other key workers. I work in social care, supporting the NHS and we get sweet nothingConfused

There are few quiet areas in the NHS at the moment.
We're dealing with Covid, not Covid and people we don't know about trying to keep them and us safe.It takes more staff to work this way and there are less of us.
We're doing telephone appointments, face to face of examinations needed.Operations elective and emergencies.
We are wearing ppe everywhere the full hazmet/masks visors still in many areas. It may look quiet but that's because the hospitals aren't swarming with visitors.
And it going to be full on for ages as we try to play catch-up while still dealing with Covid.

What about other key workers? What about care workers, bus drivers, teachers, supermarket workers, bin men, sewage workers etc. etc. etc? The list is endless for reasons why a certain group should get a discount.

Don’t resent the group that gets the discount, particularly so when many of these discounts have been around years. Companies choose who to give discounts to and they can’t give them to everyone; there has to be a line somewhere.

Not having a discount doesn’t mean your job isn’t worthwhile and I don’t know why you would assume it does.

Unfortunately I think a lot of these company's jump on this because it makes themn look good @MaggieTheFrog, without looking at the bigger picture ,certainly in the Hospital i used to work for The Domestic staff and Porters who would very much be working on the frontline ,were not actually employed by the NHS they were employed by an outside agency so wouldn't be entitled to any perks.

Quite frankly it covers up the fact they kept their staff working without any protection for aaaaggeeesssss. Load of bull.

Stop bashing on us NHS too :( I've been working more than ever and I'm not even on a covid ward. And now we're being told we can't take holiday else we don't get paid for the 14 day quarantine when we get back. So for all the people who were lucky enough to sit at home having 100% pay and now going on holiday cause the airlines have opened, that's great for them but it's a big slap in the face for all of us. 50% off at sports direct is just a small way of saying we hope this makes up for it a little and we get some publicity too.

Anyway, no one has it is easy. Let's just stop hating on each other Hmm

PicklePig31 · 26/06/2020 17:29

Well said @Pinkbunny2811 xxx

Babyfg · 26/06/2020 17:48

I don't blame anyone taking advantage of sports direct. If she can make a bit out of them crack on.

They're a scumbag company that doesn't look after their staff and will do anything to make a profit. It's not like she's ripping of an animal shelter! Weren't they raising the prices at the beginning of the lock down on items they thought people would order?

They have given the nhs a discount as it's good pr. if you eligible for the discount you shouldn't feel bad about using it. As other people have have said it's the company that should offer to a wider group but obviously offering it to shop workers doesn't sound quite as charitable and as good on their marketing campaigns (and they don't want to offer it to to many people because, we'll, profits 🙄)

Camhs is the most useless service in the entire NHS.
