Puzzle hunt help

My work have sent out another puzzle hunt for us to have a go at during lockdown (if we want to obvs). There are 5 stages and you need a password to get onto the next stage.

The first stage is 27 pictures of landmarks - I think i've managed to identify all of them but haven't got a clue as to how to work out the password :(

All of the pictures are bordered by colours (green, red, orange, yellow or blue) so I think that may have something to do with it?

Anyhoo, any ideas welcome as I'm stumped!

I'll try and put pics of the landmarks on here. These are what I think they are:

leaning tower of piza
eiffel tower
hagia sophia
burj khalifa
gateway arch
sydney opera house
petra
pantheon
machu pitchu
st basils cathedral
space needle
cn tower
one world trade centre
potala palace
colloseum
brandenburg gate
dome of the rock
forbidden city
pentagon
flatiron building
angkor wat
winter palace
shard
taj mahal
rialto bridge
griffith observatory
brooklyn bridge

Ooooh good idea! But no, I can't make anything out of those letters either. I've also tried 'ruins' and 'ruined' but that's not working. Think you might be on the right lines though....

Have you tried each landmark to see if it works? It may be that it's an odd one out puzzle and if you try them all you'll get it?

AndWhat · 16/06/2020 19:52

Could it be first letters of countries? ifgdua etc

Colosseum and machu picchu were spelt wrong. But that doesn't seem to help.

Naemates · 16/06/2020 19:56

'Reflect on your approach', something mirrored?

Bargebill19 · 16/06/2020 20:00

The colours of the rainbow? So “rainbow” or April be mnemonic “ROY Gave Battle in vain”?

Bargebill19 · 16/06/2020 20:03

In the yellow group you have two more monuments - anything to with them that different to any of the others in the other groups ?? Perhaps they are the password?

ClashCityRocker · 16/06/2020 20:11

That's a tough one! I bet we're all overthinking it and will be kicking ourselves when we find out.

We will find out, won't we?

PatriciaHolm · 16/06/2020 20:11

Could it be a number? 55755?

ClashCityRocker · 16/06/2020 20:12

Does the password have to be an actual word?

ThankyouPeter · 16/06/2020 20:22

It sounds like this isn't the first puzzle? Could you give us some info on the previous one so we can see how their devious minds work?

ApocalypseNowt · 16/06/2020 20:25

Sorry yes i know re the spellings. Above list was just copied from my spreadsheet that i jot stuff down on. Can't see that causing the issue though! Smile

I have no more info on whether the password is one word, a phrase or numbers. Going by last year's puzzle hunt it could be any - they were mostly words or phrases though.

Re the rainbow thing - I'm thinking that it's to group them. If it was just the colours then we wouldn't need the monuments (and in previous puzzles working out the pictures does always lead to or helps with getting the answer iyswim).

You will find out I promise! Answers should be provided by next monday. I'm gutted though....last time I managed to finish all the puzzles in the hunt (with help!) Grin

This is the first puzzle!

Last year the first stage was emojis and you had to work out the name of a movie. Next to the pictures was a number which denoted the letter we needed to use. So the first one was Princess Bride - it had the number 7 next to it so the first letter of the password was 'S'.

OP posts:
Bargebill19 · 16/06/2020 20:42

Ok so .... the colours could denote which letter of the name you use. So every red item is the third letter. Every green item is the fifth letter etc if those letter are written out in the order they appear on the screen - is that the password.

ApocalypseNowt · 16/06/2020 20:44

I got it!!!!

If R = 1, O = 2, Y = 3, G = 4 and B = 5

Then you get.....NEHRESTTUBETELONDONLANDMARK

which is one letter away from "nearest tube to london landmark"

the nearest tube station to the Shard is....LONDON BRIDGE! [grin}

On to stage 2............

zebbyzebbo · 17/06/2020 07:01

Wow, multi-step, well done. I love stuff like this but that would have stumped me,

Second one is MUCH easier!

Stompythedinosaur · 17/06/2020 08:55

Brilliant - well done op!

Keep us updated. It seems like a good puzzle.

ApocalypseNowt · 17/06/2020 09:45

Thank you all - I'm actually annoyed I didn't twig earlier Smile

Never mind!

@DanFMDorking - how are you getting on?

@zebbyzebbo - I had a quick look last night and haven't a scooby. You might have to give me a clue to get started...Wink

OP posts:
