If you queued for Primark or Sports Direct today, why did you do it?

Just interested as I couldn’t bear it. There are cheap clothes from companies online. What was the attraction?

NRTWT but Sports Direct had huge queues because for one day only they were giving NHS staff 50% off everything in the shop for one day online and didn't include online ordering.

My year 6 went back to school Monday. We have tonnes of school uniform & she had new school shoes after Christmas, so I wanted her to wear them. At drop off, school asked me to send her in casual clothes. She doesn’t have any tracksuits/cheap trainers, so had to dash to the shops to buy it all. Ridiculous & very frustrating, but that’s why.

Forgot to add... there were no queues & parking was a dream.

@TheWashingMachine I think it depends on the child and what stage they are at. Babies and toddlers grow rapidly. Tweens and teens can also grow rapidly as puberty hits.

My own DD (10) has always been a slow grower that took ages to outgrow clothes. She was always the small kid but I know in our family we were all small children but take a massive growth spurt between the age of 10-12. It looks like DD is following suit. She has grown no less than 4 inches since lockdown and shows no signs of slowing down. She has jumped a whole centile place on the chart.
Last year her feet grew 4 full shoe sizes but she only grew about 1 1/2 inch in height. Nothing from last summer fits her (as they are mostly carried over from the previous summer) - they are 2 sizes too small at least. Everything from winter and before lockdown is a size too small. She had a couple of items she can just about get away with. I’m in Scotland so still very much in lockdown and no clothes shops open. I’ve been struggling to find anything left in her size online and in supermarkets. I’m not sure I would be queueing up first day shops reopen but I will be going the first week. She needs everything from underwear to tops and bottoms. Thankfully her feet don’t appear to have grown again so that something.

I went to Primark on Monday on a whim. I has a small list of things that arent worth the postage price of buying online. I was going to leave it until July.

There was no queue.

I just cracked at 10 and thought how shit life has become so I would wonder out to observe life.

My kids are back at school due to disabilities and EHCPs so we took on risk back in April.

Last Friday I had to take my daughter to the orthodontics to have her very neglected brace tightened up as her appointment was right at the beginning of lockdown. The surgery is in the middle of town so I popped into asda living and superdrug to get a few things and we both said how nice it was to just browse around those two shops which didn't involve supermarket food shopping! Albeit a chemist and supermarket chain shop, but it was so nice. We both said we couldn't wait to go shopping properly but without restrictions. I just couldn't face going clothes shopping and having to queue for each shop and to not touch the clothes as well. Good question though cos I was wondering how busy it would be in town. I have noticed that our main Asda has been much quieter this week though.
I also agree with you that there is no need for all the nastiness on a genuine question. All that will happen is that people will be put off asking for advice when they get nasty, negative remarks back. I love mumsnet but would hate to see it become a platform for bullying and hurtful comments.

I need new clothes I've bought stuff of ASOS but I'm not paying £10 for a simple strappy vest top when I could get 6 for that price from Primark.

I also needed new jeans and tops and Primark jeans are really good quality and on trend like other stores plus,
I find Topshop jeans are really expensive and don't wash well.
The queue was not bad to get in, but due to social distancing they only had 3 tills open and I had to wait 1.5 hours to be served.
