If you queued for Primark or Sports Direct today, why did you do it?

Just interested as I couldn’t bear it. There are cheap clothes from companies online. What was the attraction?

@Asuitablecat although I in no way agree with how they treated their staff, I certainly wouldn't boycott them.

LizzyAnna99 · 15/06/2020 20:16

I personally have struggled to find ANY cheap baby clothes online for my baby, thankfully I’ve been given second hand because I’m not spending a fortune on JojoMamamBebe etc, and there’s a huge baby boom right now

TerrapinStation · 15/06/2020 20:19

@2pinkginsplease

I think it’s pretty sad to have been queuing at any shop that’s not essential! The scenes on the tv with huge queues and people fighting to get into shops, it’s disgusting.

One young girl said she had taken today off work especially just to go to Primark!

I’ll quite happily stick to online shopping,

Why is it sad?

No one is making anyone else queue, a person who chooses to queue has no effect on your life. Why the judgement/patronisation?

I having been shopping today but I'm pleased that those who did were able to do something they either needed or wanted to do.

I don't understand how anyone can't work out why there were queues, it's hardly rocket science

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 15/06/2020 20:19

NHS staff here and many people in the store were too. It was 50% in store for us with valid ID.

I needed a pair of adjustable sandals.

I spent hours waiting to pick up one item, while all around me people were taking the mick.

Huge hauls of clothes and expensive trainers being added to as the poor service staff were putting them through the till.

A family in front of me were on the phone constantly and wandering off to pick up more items for people making requests down the phone and by text message.

lilgreen · 15/06/2020 20:20

I drove past Sports Direct today when visiting Pets at Home and the queue was over 200m. It was boiling hot. WTH?

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 15/06/2020 20:22

I rarely go shopping for anything other than food but about a month ago I'd have given anything for a treck round Trago Mills. So I can understand why they queued

CorianderLord · 15/06/2020 20:33

@Dyrne I'm sorry but anyone with a bank account can get a debit card... otherwise how do you get the money out?

Why is it taking the mick to take advantage of a really good offer? it wasn't like they said 'spend £40 and get it for £20' and people were going through with multiple transactions. It was a very clear offer and a calculated and costed business decision made with full knowledge.

I don't know if they made any/much profit from today or if they were hoping to gain in another way - longer-term good PR, stealing a march on competitors, clearing out standing stock to make room for new lines etc.; but Mike Ashby and his team are hardly Ned Flanders trying to do folk a little kindness and getting taken for a complete ride by them in return. I don't think people filling their boots today with the generous offer will leave him having to eat dry crackers for the net month, somehow.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 15/06/2020 21:25

I went to Primark for socks. No queuing needed Hmm

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 15/06/2020 21:26

*School socks.

The shop was nowhere near as packed as usual and it was actually a nice change!

I think it’s sad to be so judgey of others when you could spend that time in more positive pursuits rather than on a moral high horse putting everyone else down 🤷

Regretful123 · 15/06/2020 21:56

@russellbrandshair lol do people think it’s not normal to want to go shopping? Lol

Regretful123 · 15/06/2020 21:57

@Asuitablecat I thought it was a misunderstanding with spoons?

Eckhart · 16/06/2020 00:37

You can cut the irony with a knife, here.

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 00:41

Why do people have to be so mean to posters.

Christ!!!!

OP... I would like to know why to
But that's because not like you, i want to know because i think people are bloody mad! I would of personally waited afew more weeks to see if this 2nd wave is going to hit.

Eckhart · 16/06/2020 00:46

Think the second wave is predicted in Sept/Oct, Thundercrack, so you might want to keep shopping online a bit longer. I will be.

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 00:50

Im shielding but would love to go to the shops, even walking around Tesco would be good right now...

But even if i wasnt shielding, i wouldnt yet....

Iv been in pj's for 95 days, so dont need any clothes yet...

Got some more pjs online last week :)

chipsandgin · 16/06/2020 00:52

I think everyone just needs some leggings two sizes larger than before because of the lockdown stone everyone has put on (not just me surely..)! Wouldn’t go and queue anywhere personally, but each to their own.

Some basic bank accounts only have a cashcard where you can use an ATM.

I love that you're counting it in days!

What a peculiar world we're living in, where a trip to Tesco seems like a fantasy.

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 01:05

@Eckhart

Its been a very looooong 95 days!!!

Its true, i honestly fantasize about walking around Tesco!

Deathraystare · 16/06/2020 10:31

I have been desperate to go into Primark. Damn them for not being online (where everything would be sold out anyway, so why am I moaning??!!)

However, I did not fancy going on the first day it opened. I can imagine whole families bored out their skulls just looking there and people getting cross.

My friend went out yesterday but even she did not attempt Primark!

Deadringer · 16/06/2020 15:17

I am just back from the one in my local town, only queued for 5 minutes or so.

Rhumatoidwarrior88 · 16/06/2020 17:31

This thread is way to newspaper journalist for me

TheWashingMachine · 16/06/2020 18:03

When you say your kids have been growing like crazy, I get the occasional growth spurt but really, have they outgrown things from just a few weeks ago? Or even last summer? My DC always wear their clothes until they are literally too small, they usually get two seasons out of their clothes too, which are often hand me downs anyway. Shoes are different but clothes you can squash into.

Also they don't need much, DS has two pairs of PJs, two pairs of joggers, and two pairs of shorts, 5 pairs of pants and socks and three t shirts and a hoody. That is all.
DD has five dresses and a cardigan knitted by my aunt, two pairs of leggings, two pairs pyjamas, five pairs socks and pants. The dresses all cost £2 on ebay.

I don't understand the Primark thing, I only buy ethical brands and try to make sure they are second hand. There is only one planet and you only have one body.
