36 COVID fatalities reported today. We are on the way out of this 🌟🌟

36 reported fatalities today (weekend caveat), the lowest number since the day before lockdown was announced. 77 & 115 the last two Sundays for comparison

Mercifully, the human toll of this crisis is easing

I'm hopeful the trends will continue to improve

As reported by Professor Karol Sikora on Twitter

This is amazing news and surely our schools should be able to open as normal come September!

I don’t think we should let Hooves derail the thread any more. I think it’s best if they get ignored tbh. We know what there stance is.

She didn’t say that. She said the sheilded people that she knew.

So she said it with regards to what then? Clearly it was being aimed at me otherwise it seems quite a random statement to make on a thread about daily death rates.

Sostenueto · 16/06/2020 17:38

They have opened a special recuperation hospital for survivors of Covid because these people have been permanently damaged by Covid. It is a deadly disease one way or another. It takes 3 weeks ( or longer) for incubation and symptoms to show and sometimes no symptoms as we all know. So in 3 weeks time there may be a spike. Meanwhile track and trace app is still back at the ranch and social distancing today in our town almost non existent.

Jkslays · 16/06/2020 17:39

I’m betting some of this deaths are from over the weekend. Still, we are still on a down ward trend for a rolling average.

I’m wondering if I can dare to think about a xmas holiday..

Really?

Everything I've heard suggests the usual incubation period is around 5 days but can be up to 14 days.

Have you got a source for the "3 weeks or longer" claim?

Jkslays · 16/06/2020 17:47

This isn’t near me but we have a chap who plays the trumpet on a Sunday afternoon if the weathers good Grin

@Jkslays I'm wondering about a Christmas holiday too. Maybe somewhere proper snowy and festive, like in a film.

But thankfully over 80% of people will experience none to very mild symptoms.

Some positive news on treatment today. I didn’t catch it all but I was very heartened to hear the drug is stable and available.

Oh the dream!! My friend has a chalet in France and is desperate to get back from Xmas. I need some sun on my bones so hoping for Dubai - my eldest lives there.

But within those 80% of "mild" cases are people who are left with long term complications.

"Mild" means they weren't admitted to hospital. It doesn't mean they fully recovered within fourteen days.

Yeah I know @Jkslays. The constant negativity and ability to see the bad in everything must make them an absolute treat to be around.

The reason I made the comment about shielded people is because the gloomsters quite often state that they’re shielding and this is the reason they haven’t left their house in months and don’t plan to for month/ years/ never. When actually it’s because the choose not to. They often say it’s because of throngs of people who pass their door 24/7 invading their personal space and coughing on them. I was giving a flip side that shielded people can go out if they’re careful and choose the right time of day. Many shielded people are living different but enjoyable lives with the people they love albeit from a distance.

Agreed.

Though I will say that this thread proves what I said some pages ago: There are people out there who are absolutely loving all the misery and don't want it to end. They'll deny it, but it's plain to see.

Theluggage15 · 16/06/2020 18:12

Excellent news about the cheap and cheerful treatment! Can imagine how excited the doctors felt at realising the results. Great that the U.K. can share this happy development with the world instead of doom and gloom. Will be really helpful for poorer countries.

Mascotte · 16/06/2020 18:22

I'd love sun,@Jkslays but sadly my child doesn't like the heat 🙄

Normally I'd just ignore this but he's had a truly shite year so far so want to cheer him up. I foresee a Hallmark movie.. but with much wine.

Sounds bliss! My friend goes every xmas to the French alps and they have so much on for the kids to do. Hope you get chance to go!!

I hear you

My granny was 88 in May. She had two lots of pneumonia last year and has diabetes.

She goes out of the house at 7:30 am in the morning to walk round and stretch her legs. No one is allowed in her house but we (most of her family) have all sat at one time or other in her garden whilst she sits at her front door. We take a flask and have a cup of tea with her. I go round most Sundays.

She has a very active life. Still plays darts in the women’s team at the pub, bingo and ‘old biddies day outs’ ( she calls it that herself before I get hammered)

The only thing that’s pissing her off is not being able to get the bus and do her own shopping.

But she’s always had a love for life and hasn’t let this get her down.

In fact she’s cleaned her wardrobe out and is wearing all her best cruise clothes incase she doesn’t get chance again. Sat there in her emerald jewled frock at her front door in a camping chair drinking tea Grin

Bartlet · 16/06/2020 19:01

Love that image @Jkslays. Brilliant that she’s finding ways to enjoy lockdown.

Some people just embrace life and are a pleasure to be around. Others can see misery and gloom everywhere and suck the joy out of any situation.

Rainycloudyday · 16/06/2020 19:02

@Jkslays that is just fabulous, I love your granny’s attitude!

Alsohuman · 16/06/2020 19:04

Well, I am shielding, got all of my letters here and everything, not just a whim that I've made up.

Again, "the shielded" are individuals - some might choose to not take it seriously, some might choose not to shield at all, some might do some parts and ignore others (not really shielding though) because they are ok to accept the risks and others are following the guidelines because they are doing their best to be around for their children. Though clearly on here, anyone who isn't willing to through caution to the wind and take chances are fun sponges. Do you think people who won't speed or take drugs are fun sponges cos they "won't live a little"?

When my medical advice changes and the drs tell me I can stop shielding then I'll do it. Until then, if you don't mind, I won't be taking medical advice from randoms on the internet.
