36 COVID fatalities reported today. We are on the way out of this 🌟🌟

Jkslays · 14/06/2020 19:01

36 reported fatalities today (weekend caveat), the lowest number since the day before lockdown was announced. 77 & 115 the last two Sundays for comparison

Mercifully, the human toll of this crisis is easing

I'm hopeful the trends will continue to improve

As reported by Professor Karol Sikora on Twitter

This is amazing news and surely our schools should be able to open as normal come September!

Yes, there is nothing i can do about the criminal mishandling of CV by Johnson and his gungho attitude to other people's health, nor the morons stating what a great job he has done or the view that "we can celebrate so few deaths" ..... CV is doing what all respiratory illnesses do, which is they stop spreading in summer and reappear in winter!

Me and my partner have seen first hand what this virus does and wont be celebrating CV's demise until we are well into winter and CV is no longer with us, doing so now is stupid, its too early to tell.

Bollss · 15/06/2020 09:28

@Smidge001

The trend is pretty clear. Whichever day of the week you look at.
Considering we were only supposed to "flatten the curve" we've done pretty bloody well. We've taken a steep turn downwards where the expected, and wanted a plateau and a slow decline.
MorrisZapp · 15/06/2020 09:37

Flatten the curve has been completely forgotten. Lockdown was to eradicate the concept of death from these islands don't you know.

Only when full immortality has been achieved can we claim it worked.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/06/2020 09:53

Agreed incredibly, it was just an easy way to point out how incomparable it was.

Good for you. Glad you and your partner are ok holed up. Unfortunately for the rest of society it’s not so easy. Maybe you should consider how the rest of the country are feeling.

Both China and Spain have new outbreaks. In China after 50 days without cases. Whitty and Vallance rumoured to be on verge of resignation if ( when) Boris cuts social distance to one metre. (Main SAGE scuentusts) and they are going to publish their fears and objections in the minutes of SAGE meetings. The R is over 1 in Northwest. Nope not convinced we are over it.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/06/2020 10:25

Do people actually believe the Government's massaged figures anyway?

No. Although whoever it was that put a log x axis on a graph and instantly ‘flattened the curve’ the other week deserves a medal.

Sostenueto · 15/06/2020 10:26

The people who want to get on with their lives need to consider those locked up for the foreseeable future not living a life at all.

IcedPurple · 15/06/2020 10:30

So because some people may need to remain at home that means that none of us can look forward to resuming our normal activities?

Jkslays · 15/06/2020 10:35

@Mascotte

To be fair, *@jasjas1973* it was you who were preaching about things you said were bad before lockdown and would hopefully change.

Try to imagine that some people had happy, balanced, fulfilled, fun lives and would like them back. You can then make the best of yours still by doing whatever you wish.

This. I think Jasjas has had a positive outcome for her life during this epidemic and doesn’t want to go back to her old life.

I’ve been wild swimming this weekend and it was fantastic. My kids and I can get on open water again we really missed it

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints

They aren't comparable tea. ONS has 148 people per square Km in Wales & it's 15 people per square Km in NZ according to the govt.nz website (so presumably reliable).
Auckland has a population of about 1.4 Mn.

"The urban population density is 1,210 people per square kilometer.

While 70% of the Auckland area is rural, 90% of Aucklanders live in urban areas." source: worldpopulationreview.com/world-cities/auckland-population/

NZ and the UK were on similar trajectories. We just locked down earlier and harder. And closed our borders. We are a travelling nation with about 150,000 to 200,000 NZers travelling overseas each month and around 3.7Mn overseas tourists a year.

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 10:52

The people who want to get on with their lives need to consider those locked up for the foreseeable future not living a life at all.

So because some people's lives are restricted, everyone's lives should be restricted?

How would that work, economically? Bearing in mind that simply printing money doesn't usually end up going well.

Sometimes it seems that people regard "the economy" as an evil entity which is run by evil overlords, rather than something we are all part of, which needs most of us to contribute to so that we can look after the people who can't contribute.

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 10:59

And with the China outbreak, can 45 people testing positive in a confined area in a city of over 21 million people be considered an outbreak? Hasn't it been identified and contained? That's a good thing - it's what we're aiming for.

I think the "lockdown for the foreseeable" people seem to think that people who want to come out of it are under the impression that the virus has gone away. Of course the virus hasn't gone away and of course there will be sporadic outbreaks. That's a given. It's how they are dealt with which is the main thing - how to deal with them without shutting down an entire economy and society.#

Obviously cases and infection rates will go down if you shut down society but it's not a long term solution. I have to say that queuing since 4am just to get into bloody Primark seems like a special kind of lunacy.

64k deaths and counting... yes we've done sooooooooo bloody well!

We've also added 5m to 6m to the the NHS waiting list, which was already at 5m, so we now have 10m to 11m waiting for treatment.

I think you need to go out for a walk it must be incredibly depressing living with you. Your like the misery fairy sprinkling doom and gloom every where.

Maybe you should get on with the work your supposed to be doing at home. Does your manager know you spend so much time on social media trying to make every one depressed? No wonder you love lockdown ..

Lol ! i ve not insulted you but you have insulted me repeatedly.....

Those are the facts, you might like burying your head in the sand but the reality is as i've stated.

We have got ourselves into this mess by making light of CV, might be best not to keep repeating that mistake?

Ohdearfindingthisboringnow · 15/06/2020 12:30

Wow you are actually hoping for a resurgence in the winter!
I have read some of your posts and get that you are loving lockdown and it really works for you but seriously hoping for it to come back in the winter - just wow!

"jasjas1973 We are where we are @IcedPurple and we don't know how long we will be in the "new normal" so make the best of what you have now? pointless moaning you can't do x y or z because it won't change the fact that you still can't do as you want!
You might not like that but the reality is you (nor me) have zero idea how long this will last, whether they'll be a resurgence of Cv in the winter (hopefully) Cv dies out this summer, never to seen of again or there is a vaccine."

Unbelieveable!

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 12:40

To be fair, I think the "hopefully" was referring to the virus dying out in the summer wasn't it?

nicenames · 15/06/2020 12:48

France have just reported that they are happy that the crisis is over for them and are opening up (and making full school compulsory for the next couple of weeks) at approx 25 deaths and 500 new cases yesterday. So I would say we are half way and a few weeks off that - fingers crossed!!

Bollss · 15/06/2020 12:59

I never personally agreed with shutting the rest of the NHS down, but if we had not done that... People like you would be whining that if we had we could have saved more lives.

Ohdearfindingthisboringnow · 15/06/2020 13:00

It was difficult to tell HesterShaw1
To be fair, I think the "hopefully" was referring to the virus dying out in the summer wasn't it?

The person that posted it is generally very gloomy, hence numerous replies to her 'I'm alright Jack posts'.... The lack of any punctuation made it difficult to understand. I therefore assumed, on the basis of her usual posts, it was said to depress people.

Even if they are 'facts' (and I can't really be arsed to check them) so what? This discussion isn't about whether the govt did a shit job of managing this crisis. Almost everyone would agree that they did. It's about whether we are over the worst of the crisis. All the indicators suggest that we are. For most of us, that's great news, but a minority are enjoying the doom and drama of it all and will seek to make everyone feel as miserable as they do.

Yes I agree. This wasn’t supposed to be a political (although some posters are obsessed) it’s been a really shit terrible time (for most people) and we do need to recognise the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s good to be hopeful.
