First takeaway since before lockdown and I'm disappointed!

I had my first takeaway since early March today and had a Mcdonalds. I know a lot of people dislike McDonalds but I used to love it and would often have it as a weekend treat.

I had my first one today and it was not enjoyable at all. I feel nauseous and bloated and left half of it. I much prefer all the meals I have been cooking myself during lockdown.

I am glad as I feel like I have instilled better eating habits during lockdown and saved a lot of money. I won't be having it again.

Has anyone else had a similar epiphany?

I had a McDonald’s and had to go lie down for an hour I felt so ill afterwards!

Didn’t learn my lesson as had a Papa Johns tonight and ended up with Tachycardia and again had to lie down.

I’m trying clean eating from now on!

Cheesecakejar · 13/06/2020 21:19

I will probably go back because I'm an absolute pig but I had a similar experience with Mcdonalds, I felt so tired and headachey after!

WotnoPasta · 13/06/2020 21:19

McDonalds has always made me poorly. We had Pizza Hut last week and that also doesn’t really agree with me.
Sadly I think the only takeaway I can have is the odd bag of chips

NameChange84 · 13/06/2020 21:23

What is it they put in it to make us feel so bad?

I’m fine after Indian food.

TwilightPeace · 13/06/2020 21:35

What is it they put in it to make us feel so bad?

Lots and lots of salt!
Yeah I’m fine after Indian. Feel kinda yuck after anything else. Especially Chinese, so greasy.

DownCherryTreeLane · 13/06/2020 21:44

Urgh I feel so sluggish. I am now drinking lots and lots of water to try and compensate for all the salt.

I am secretly happy though because previously having McDonalds regularly was such an unhealthy habit that I struggled to break.

Agreed!!! We waited a few days until the queues went down at our local branch, then went for it.

I had a big mac and although the sauce tasted as good as always, the burgers were tasteless, and the fries very pale and flacid (for the want of a better word!!!!). Partner had chicken select and again said they were bland and not as he remembered.

Tbh not a bad thing as think lockdown may have broken our McDonalds addiction - we were so looking forward to it, but won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Maybe when they are up and running properly, with a full menu, things may get back to normal......

FlamedToACrisp · 13/06/2020 22:08

We had a takeaway and I struggled to eat it. I just kept thinking, "I don't know if the people who cooked this and packed it have the virus... they could have coughed over it or touched it with their germy hands..."

I knew my response was way beyond the reasonable risk factor, but I won't be having any more.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 13/06/2020 22:10

Same here. Threw part of my Big Mac away, which is virtually unheard of!

Shouldbedoing · 13/06/2020 22:12

So transfer your takeaway into pyrex and microwave if you fear germs
Plop the McDonald's onto a plate and wash your hands before eating
That cuts out most of the other person contact

PickAChew · 13/06/2020 22:14

McDonald's just leaves me feeling simultaneously over full and still bloody hungry.

NameChange84 · 13/06/2020 22:33

Lol when I get takeaway at the moment the procedure is this;

Arrange all plates and utensils needed for this operation.

Put on latex gloves.

Remove and discard packaging

Place food in appropriate receptacle

Microwave or oven heat for appropriate times to kill germs without ruining taste.

Decent drinks into cups.

Discard all packaging.

Remove gloves.

Wash hands using surgical technique. Washing up to elbows. Then apply alcohol gel.

Eat

Maybe this is why I need a lie down afterwards Blush

(Caveat, I’m in the Shielding category)

As a younger person I practically lived on McDonald's and was fine. Since hitting 40 ish it makes me feel like shit. Really lethargic and bloated. If I have no alternative but to eat there I'll have a salad or wrap and an orange juice.. and steal one or two fries from the dc.

Rumtopf · 13/06/2020 23:44

We had sushi last night and it was bloody glorious. I've fancied it for months as we were meant to go to my favourite restaurant for my birthday in April but obv couldn't. I am so relieved and pleased it wasn't a let down.

StCharlotte · 13/06/2020 23:47

Yeah our Chinese last night didn't live up to the pre lockdown memory Sad

Starlightstarbright1 · 13/06/2020 23:53

I was the opposite - we had a Chinese but it is a no msg takeaway- I loved it - felt a real treat as opposed to can’t be bothered to cook - we will be returning w it been a treat not a convenience

DamnYankee · 14/06/2020 00:23

^ Yes!
Haven't been to McD's in years.
However, our local pizza and Chinese restaurants are fabulous.
The chicken with asparagus and black bean sauce is to die for (sigh). Maybe in a few weeks...

BendingSpoons · 14/06/2020 08:12

Gradually over the past few years I have enjoyed that kind of food less, mainly thanks to DH being a good cook. We also moved about 2 years ago and have less choice. We had a Dominoes in lockdown and it was a disappointment and I regretted it afterwards. Unfortunately I have put on weight eating biscuits and not exercising so I don't think I can claim clean eating!

KatherineJaneway · 14/06/2020 08:14

What did you order @DownCherryTreeLane?

Sandybval · 14/06/2020 08:16

I had a pizza the other day, used to be my absolute favourite and a real treat. Having not had a takeaway in a while although it tasted the same as usual, I didn't really enjoy it, and regret spending money on it. Probably a good thing to have had a break from it and realise that it's actually not very nice.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 14/06/2020 08:16

I think lots of the nicer options from McDonald’s are currently off the menu so that contributes to your order being unsatisfying

Chinesetakeawaay · 14/06/2020 08:19

Yes I bought a coffee from Pret yesterday, it was really disappointing. We have a bean to cup coffee machine at home and I much prefer what I've been making.

That said KFC smelt amazing when I walked past Grin

mogloveseggs · 14/06/2020 08:19

Yeah. We had it last week. Ds liked his nuggets but hasn't asked for it again and I realised I much prefer Burger King which isn't showing signs of opening near us yet.

mogloveseggs · 14/06/2020 08:20

Had a takeaway coffee and cake from a tiny local cafe yesterday though that was amazing!

Snard4 · 14/06/2020 08:24

Personally I’ve loved every mouthful of my Indian takeaways (have had three now, since being in lockdown) I haven’t had McDonald’s or kfc for years. I’m so fed up of cooking every single bloody night!!
