First takeaway since before lockdown and I'm disappointed!

I had my first takeaway since early March today and had a Mcdonalds. I know a lot of people dislike McDonalds but I used to love it and would often have it as a weekend treat.

I had my first one today and it was not enjoyable at all. I feel nauseous and bloated and left half of it. I much prefer all the meals I have been cooking myself during lockdown.

I am glad as I feel like I have instilled better eating habits during lockdown and saved a lot of money. I won't be having it again.

Has anyone else had a similar epiphany?

My husband was desperate for a kfc. Wasn't my favourite before covid but it was rancid. He admitted it wasn't as good as he remembered but yet wanted another one a week later 🤷🏻‍♀️ I refused and went to M&S and bought chicken burgers and baps and made my own chips. He said it was so much better. The only thing missed was the gravy!

I'm looking forward to going home next week and having take away, dp's doesn't have any where decent near by. The support bubble thing is very helpful to my set up!

DS had a dominos last week, which he said was horrible. I've never known him to throw pizza in the bin! Maybe we are all getting used to home made food or freezer food which isn't quite so fatty and our taste buds have changed.

@KatherineJaneway The veggie burger meal! I have been disappointed that other fast food outlets (Burger King, KFC) have no vegetarian options on their limited menus otherwise I probably would have gone elsewhere.

@strawbmilk I have been making my own versions of fast food too and I much prefer it and it is much less fatty and salty.

I was a lover of McDonald’s before lockdown! We got one yesterday, I had a chicken nugget happy meal with OJ and a little cheeseburger. All of our chips were undercooked and still white. The nuggets and cheeseburger did taste nice but me and one DS felt nauseous all night long!

I’ll not be in a rush to go back.

If you’ve been making all of your own food during lockdown then your probably become accustomed to not a lot of salt.

Personally I find any restaurant or take away food with a lot of sugar, not just sauces but surgery bread like subway, makes me feel very odd.

abstractprojection · 14/06/2020 09:53

But in general I find takeaway food disappointing. You spend an hour thinking about it, deciding what to get and so on, then almost another hour waiting, you eat it in about 10-15min because your so hungry and apart from the first bite don’t taste it, and then think was that really worth 25 quid for two people.

@DownCherryTreeLane I've not tried one of those in years. I always go for a fillet o fish (or two!)

We had an Indian takeaway last night it was delicious
Dh had a McDonald’s last week and said he felt bloated and tired after eating it

DownCherryTreeLane · 14/06/2020 12:17

@abstractprojection Yes you are right that it is often a disappointment and waste of money. I feel like that with Dominos, the first slice is nice but after that I feel so nauseous.

@LittleMissEngineer Ooh you have tempted me now to make a homemade pizza this week. I have really developed a love of cooking during lockdown.

We have been having regular fish and chip takeaways from the various local pubs and restaurants. Started as a one-off but we have managed a different one each week. Quality MUCH better than normal take away venues. Only 1 so far has disappointed (wasn't the cheapest and their chips were not the artisan rustic variety one would expect from the venue, but reconstituted chips that tasted powdery (never eaten at that restaurant and probably won't when they re-open)
