I’m putting some velvet on my bedroom walls and was thinking of maybe a velvet duvet cover

wahhh no, the feel of that against skin would be horrific
Never even seen one for sale, and I work in bedding!

Redcrayons · 13/06/2020 21:07

I imagine it would feel a bit weird to sleep on.

SpeedofaSloth · 13/06/2020 21:07

Polyester, no. Cotton, maybe.

I’ve found that heavy fabric squash all the puffiness out of a duvet and make it flat.

Nacreous · 13/06/2020 21:11

I wouldn't imagine it would wash very well?
Maybe a velvet blanket would work better?

ChelseaCat · 13/06/2020 21:11

HIDEOUS

QuentinQuarantino · 13/06/2020 21:12

Sounds very Austin Powers.

I wouldn't.

Hellbentwellwent · 13/06/2020 21:17

Envy < not envy, I imagine it would be a breeding ground for all sorts, velvet has a pile, imaging all the crap that could be lurking inbetween the fibres, don’t care how often you washed it, it would make me heave. Sliding in under a velvet duvet

Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 21:23

It doesn't really wash and wear well enough for bedding. If you want the look then just make a throw.

Si1ver · 13/06/2020 21:27

Oh yuck no! Fling a velvet throw over if you must, but not the actual sheets

Thisbastardcomputer · 13/06/2020 21:29

I've got two, they're both like a sheared velvet with the bottom side cotton. One is dorma and the other Laura Ashley, they are lovely.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 13/06/2020 21:30

If you had velvet pillow cases as well your hair would look awful in the morning because of the friction etc, the opposite of those nice silky pillowcasees.

Papoy · 13/06/2020 21:31

No

thecatneuterer · 13/06/2020 21:32

Hideous. I agree that a velvety throw would be OK though.

chocolateequinox · 13/06/2020 21:36

I have some velvet throws which are lovely but would be horrible to sleep under. They are quite heavy and thick.

missmouse101 · 13/06/2020 21:40

Hideous and more.

TheProvincialLady · 13/06/2020 21:42

Do you particularly like dust or something?

Lardlizard · 13/06/2020 22:47

Ok ! Thanks for the advice
I’ll
Go for fresh white then with perhaps a navy throw

It might be way too ott with the velvet on the walls too anyway !

If you’re going for luxury, I’d go for gold silk curtains, full length (JL do some good ones) with some tie-backs to match your velvet. Cream, rather than white, bedding would look less stark (COSTCO) do superb, high thread count bedding in both cream and white.

CherryPavlova · 14/06/2020 00:34

White Egyptian cotton every time.

Sweetlikecoca · 14/06/2020 00:36

I have one from NEXT it’s only the top of it that’s velvet and it’s cotton underneath. Washes really well. Fab quality.

Titsywoo · 14/06/2020 00:37

No! I once slept in a hotel room in Vegas with a velvet bedspead and curtains. It made the room feel dusty and grubby. Urgh - horrible.

MrsEricBana · 14/06/2020 00:40

Ick. No.

Diverseduvet · 14/06/2020 00:41

Sounds uncomfortable

PerfidiousAlbion · 14/06/2020 00:42

Christ no. The most you could do would be a velvet trim.
