I use Georgia size 10 at the moment for work. I fancy a change. What do you use?

OP posts:

I use Garamond or Helvetica mostly, but occasionally Futura for a more casual look.
I like the Eric Gill fonts too, for old time's sake.

TSSDNCOP · 13/06/2020 14:17

Calibri

I find Ariel v old fashioned.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/06/2020 14:18

We have to use Ariel12 for work so I just use it everywhere.

GeraltOfRivia · 13/06/2020 14:19

Calibri 10.

BIWI · 13/06/2020 14:22

When I first set up as a freelancer, I used Gill Sans. I love it - it's clean and simple. But then I discovered that Eric Gill, who created it, sexually abused his daughters and couldn't bring myself to use it.

In my next business we started off using Berlin Sans, and then transitioned to Verdana.

Now I'm back freelancing I chose Avenir - not only love the look of it, but it also means 'future', which seemed appropriate!

FraughtwithGin · 13/06/2020 14:36

For personal things I like Century Gothic.
Workwise it is usually Arial or Helvetica, although I noticed Calibri sneaking in at the last place I worked, although whether this was a corporate decision (which I doubt very much) or laziness on the part of users, as it appeared to be the default font when you opened Microsoft applications.

YellowEllis · 13/06/2020 15:05

Wingdings Grin

LizzyELane · 13/06/2020 15:12

All my uni assignments have to be in Calibri 11.

JoysOfString · 13/06/2020 15:14

BIWI I also feel icky about gill sans :(

However there’s always Futura and Twentieth Century which have a similar vibe - I especially love Twentieth Century.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/06/2020 15:20

@WelcomeToTheMountaintop

We are also told that letters and documents should not be justified but a small group of us have rebelled over that. I think unjustified text looks awful

If you mean centre justified, it’s because it creates a river of text that is very hard to read if you are dyslexic.

Calibri, or Arial. Never justified.

Centre justified is OK for labels or notices, but edge-to-edge justified is horrible and much less readable than left-justified.

DadDadDad · 13/06/2020 16:11

Arial for work, Bookman Old Style at home.

Oh my goodness, the same, @CourageCamille - we're font-mates! Grin Over the years, I've grown to enjoy having BOS as my "personal" style - it's not wacky, but it's friendly. Respect to @shellysheridan and @OrlandoInTheWilderness, too.

KingOfDogShite · 13/06/2020 16:13

Ariel 12 is our ‘corporate font’. I like it, I think it looks neat and tidy and is easy to read

Annebronte · 13/06/2020 16:15

I like Calibri. Arial is meant to be easiest to read, but I think it’s unattractive.

semideponent · 13/06/2020 16:15

Gill Sans, which I really love.

If font choice is restricted for an assignment, I generally pick Calibri.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/06/2020 16:17

Candara, it's a lovely typeface.

I can't use any that I designed and digitised back in the 90s, they were all.non Latin - which narrows down the place I worked and lived Smile

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 13/06/2020 16:18

Another with Calibri for emails. I use Verdana for documents and presentations.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/06/2020 16:20

Aerial 12 is our standard at work for documents. I like it and much prefer it to Calibri and Verdana. I really dislike. TNR

A few years ago I read a book called " Just my Type" about the history of font design. It was really interesting (honest!).

Pussycatinboots · 13/06/2020 16:22

Trebuchet

and all of the templates (about 100) at work were set up to that too Grin even though we're supposed to use TNR.

I am such a rebel Shock

ScribblyGum · 13/06/2020 16:22

Ariel 12 point, 1.5 line spacing. Doing a masters and a font check is a new little tic before I start typing anything.

FAQs · 13/06/2020 16:23

Op have you been watching Below Deck?

Ariel for me.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 13/06/2020 16:26

Calibri - 10pt for spreadsheet and 11 pt for emails or word 😂

Even wearing my glasses I'd have to change the spreadsheet size in order to be able to read any text without getting a sore head - too much small text crammed together & I automatically highlight all & increase the size.

I use Arial 12pt for most things except email which is left at the default calibri 11 because I can't be arsed to change it.

When dinosaurs roamed the earth I was doing my secretarial exams we were always told to use Arial 12pt as it was the standard & easiest for others to read.

gypsywater · 13/06/2020 16:29

I change the automated Calinri to TNR on emails. Hate anything other than TNR. Everything needs to be TNR Grin

Roseburn · 13/06/2020 16:30

Prawnwithakind

Im interested in looking more at Andika. At my work we use a lot of Century Gothic, but I dislike the y and j very much.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/06/2020 16:34

Ariel 12. Calibre is fine too.

14 if typing for SEN audience (former teacher, although adapting resources for DS at present.

Fonts and layouts have become much more attractive in children's literature in recent years and it makes such a critical difference to reluctant readers or specific difficulties such as dyslexia where it's easy to get lost tracking across a page of dense text.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/06/2020 16:39

I have that book too!
