Who's going shopping on Monday?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 10:37

The shops are all opening - yippeeeee! I have the day off. I am so damn bored that part of me is thinking about going to our local Designer Outlet just for something to do. I think it's either going to be completely horrendous or completely dead.

Is anyone planning on doing some gratuitous shopping on Monday? Am I completely mad for even considering it??

I wouldn't just go for a wander. I'd only go to buy something specific.

daisypond · 12/06/2020 10:40

I wouldn’t.

AuntieMarys · 12/06/2020 10:41

I only want to go to John Lewis but ours isn't opening on the 15th

listsandbudgets · 12/06/2020 10:42

No, not massively keen at the best of tiems and Monday won't be the best of times.

However I do need a new bra and being a difficult size ahve to try it on first so I probably will venture out in the next few weeks..

Anyway given children are at home all thge time not sure when I'll manage it between work and home schooling... and I feel really sorry for all those retail workers expected to go back with no childcare or school in place.

Puppylucky · 12/06/2020 10:42

I would.

funmummy48 · 12/06/2020 10:51

I am. I don't need anything but will go for a jolly good browse after work. I was in our local town yesterday for a walk with my daughter and we were bemoaning the fact that it was no longer possible to just "pop in" anywhere on the spur of the moment. We fancied a piece of cake but there was a queue outside Waitrose and it was raining. Luckily, a tea shop was open so we popped in and bought some cake to take home. I'm ready to sit in a cafe/restaurant/pub as soon as they're open.

Deathraystare · 12/06/2020 10:52

No fear. Keeping right away despite being desperate to go to Primark.

CoveredInBeeeees · 12/06/2020 10:53

Nope. Have absolutely no reason to and don’t need any encouragement

TheGriffle · 12/06/2020 10:53

Will we be allowed to just browse though? I was under the impression you had to go, grab only what you came for and get out ASAP.

SomewhereEast · 12/06/2020 10:55

The main thing holding me back is that I think it'll be quite depressing due to all the social distancing stuff. On the other hand people will lose their livelihoods if we don't, which is why I've always tried to use actual shops as much as possible rather than just going online (saying this as someone living very close to a city which is economically depressed at the best of times - if people there lose their retail jobs they really won't have alternatives).

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 10:55

Really @TheGriffle? I honestly don't know. Absolutely no point if you can't mooch.

I'm doing my normal supermarket run on Monday (I shop for others so it is a bit of a fixed date). Really hoping the reopening doesn't crowd the town.

but shopping is never a recreation for me so I don't get the 'browse' thing.

daisypond · 12/06/2020 10:57

I thought changing rooms won’t be open. You can buy but you can’t try clothes on in the shop.

480Widdio · 12/06/2020 10:57

@chocolatesaltyballs22,there is already a thread about this! Exactly the same question!

dementedpixie · 12/06/2020 10:57

I think changing rooms will be closed so you won't be able to try anything on. I have no desire to browse in shops tbh

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 11:03

Sorry I didn't see the other thread.

It would be like going shopping at Christmas with no purpose. Overcrowded, busy and a breeding ground for all sorts. I'd wait it out if you're just bored. Go for a walk or read a book.

CremeEggThief · 12/06/2020 11:12

No way. Queues to get into a shop for browsing? Having to wear a mask for a non-essential up to 30 minute bus journey when I have a permanently blocked nose and mainly breathe through my mouth? Not my idea of fun!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 11:13

I can drive there but yeah queues.....I was thinking everyone would not bother and it would be lovely and quiet. Probably living in cuckoo land.

Yankathebear · 12/06/2020 11:16

No. I don’t want to be near people anymore than I have to.
I also don’t need anything. Lockdown has taught me that I really don’t need much!

squashyhat · 12/06/2020 11:18

No.

ssd · 12/06/2020 11:19

I don't think it's right to go for a jolly good browse. There will be people queuing and waiting for you to leave, so it's only fair to go in knowing what you want and buy it and leave.

If everyone browses the queues to get in will be horrendous. Not fair at all, especially if you have travelled a fair bit to get to the stores.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 12/06/2020 11:21

Yes, the local designer outlet is opening!

WanderingMilly · 12/06/2020 11:21

Well, when IKEA opened the queues were hours long, so there must be a lot of people wanting to browse round the shops again.

I shall be going. I don't need anything and don't have any money either (!) but I do want to browse and might be tempted by something. Can't wait...

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 11:21

Yeah you're all right. Just wanted to get back to a bit of normality but will just have to wait it out.
