Who's going shopping on Monday?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2020 10:37

The shops are all opening - yippeeeee! I have the day off. I am so damn bored that part of me is thinking about going to our local Designer Outlet just for something to do. I think it's either going to be completely horrendous or completely dead.

Is anyone planning on doing some gratuitous shopping on Monday? Am I completely mad for even considering it??

@BarefootHippieChick - the limiting the number of items a customer can touch meant putting things out of reach, not policing how much you have handled.

So things like shoes that used to be on display and you could pick your size, might be one on display and you have to ask for the size like you do in a normal shoe shop. A clothes shop may have an example of a jumper on display and you ask for your size. You can't try them on anyway so whether there's one on display and the rest in the back or not won't make a difference.

I think most shops are just going to do their best but that's the guidance.

I’m in a country where the shops have recently opened, with compulsory masks and a limit on the number of shoppers in each shop. It’s actually been fine. No queues. Plenty of time to have a mooch, nobody cares if you’re buying anything or not. So maybe it will actually be fine in England.

But people here are generally a bit less uptight than in England. So maybe it won’t.

Zoomintheroom · 12/06/2020 13:27

Not me. I hate shopping and buy nearly everything online so covid hasn't really changed anything for me. The only thing I really head to the shops for is children's shoes so they can be fitted properly. It looks like it will be September before I am back in a shop.

CompleteBarstool · 12/06/2020 13:29

Hell no!

I can just picture the scene and the queues outside places like Primark.

chocolicious · 12/06/2020 13:39

Our shops aren't opening on Monday( I'm not in England). When they do open I won't be rushing out to do buy loads of stuff.Everywhere will be busy with long queues and I don't fancy browsing through racks of clothes that goodness knows how many people have touched .

tiredanddangerous · 12/06/2020 13:51

I imagine the queues will be horrendous. I’m expecting my Facebook timeline to be full of pictures of people queuing for three hours to get into primark.

Quarantimespringclean · 12/06/2020 14:10

I’m not bothered about shops. When theatres and restaurants reopen I’ll be straight out the door but until then I’ll carry on as I am.

Inthebelljar · 12/06/2020 14:17

I’ll be going on the Saturday I think

Ragwort · 12/06/2020 14:18

I run a charity shop, of course people will want to browse, and be able to. I hope people return to support their local High Street. I don't actually open until the 22nd so have a week to get ready and deal with the mountain of donations. Grin

Inthebelljar · 12/06/2020 14:41

@Ragwort
Charity shops are the first place that I intend to go! Grin

runningon · 12/06/2020 14:46

I'm not bothered about shopping, I can get everything online.
I want to be able to visit (& stay over as I live a long way away) my family.
& Go to cafes & Go to pubs & public toilets to be open.

happypotamus · 12/06/2020 14:54

I won't be able to go on Monday even if I wanted to because I have to do school with DC and we would have to get the bus and I don't have child-sized face masks yet. As you can't browse and can't try anything on, I am not sure there would be much point except possibly for Father's Day cards if DH isn't successful at getting those in the supermarket. I very rarely go to the shops knowing exactly what I want. I go to clothes shops and book shops to browse and see what there is that I want which isn't really an option anymore. I am also only 5ft tall, so cannot buy trousers or dresses without trying them on to see if they are a sensible length.

Ragwort · 12/06/2020 21:22

Inthebelljar glad to hear it Grin.

happy - who says you can't browse ? Most retailers are desperate to get customers back.

MrsWhites · 13/06/2020 08:48

OP if you want to go and have a browse you bloody well do it, it’s not wrong to want a bit of normality. If it’s too busy you can always go home. Let’s face it, there is not much in a designer outlet that people desperately need so if they have to queue outside it’s not because you are browsing, it’s because they chose to do the same!

Have fun! If I didn’t have two children at home, I’d probably do the same!

ilovebagpuss · 13/06/2020 09:32

I’d love to so would my DD but I’m working And also we both feel it won’t be fun it will be dreaded queues and shuffling round waiting in each section whilst someone with no self awareness slowly looks at every item.
So we will probably wait a few weeks and try and go early or late one day.

funmummy48 · 13/06/2020 11:00

It won’t be a lack of self awareness it will be pure delight at being allowed into a shop to look at the shiny things. I think it’s probably best that the nervous people stay away so that the rest of us can get on with life and enjoy ourselves. I’ve assessed my risk and am ready to proceed. 😁

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/06/2020 11:30

I don't think I'm going to go but those who do, please come back and report your experiences! Smile

Littlebyerockerboo · 13/06/2020 11:51

Absolutely not.
I find it hard that anyone needs to go to shops to 'browse' if you don't need it, simply don't go shopping for it right now!
Browse online. We are way too materialistic as it is. Save your money. Buy some plants online. Spend time planting your garden rather than browsing shops for stuff you don't need?
There's still a virus going around, theres going to be queuing, people who genuinely need items waiting for you to come out so they can go in, i just dont get it.
Its not going to be forever? Do people really miss low quality clothes so much it cannot wait (eg. Primark) ...

...theres nowhere to wear these clothes with all the pubs, bars, holidays places, gyms etc closed anyway...

Nope. 110% won't be going 'shopping' now, or anytime soon.

DappledThings · 15/06/2020 11:16

DH has just laughed at my naivety. He took DC this morning for an appt at Clark's. They had both gone up a size as I thought but he had to do the measuring with the sales assistant supervising from a distance.

I had just assumed that as you can't measure a child's foot from 2m away they would just be getting on with it as a service that has to involve being in contact but no.

tectonicplates · 15/06/2020 11:49

There isn't anything I want to buy anyway, but even if there was, if you can't try the clothes on then I don't see the point.

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2020 13:12

No. I don’t want to be near people anymore than I have to.
I also don’t need anything. Lockdown has taught me that I really don’t need much!

Exactly the same here. I won't go into any shops just for the sake of it or just to have a look anymore.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/06/2020 12:36

Has anyone been? What was it like? I have something which I need to return (faulty) and they're only accepting returns up to 1st July.

OP posts:
Browzingss · 17/06/2020 14:08

Been where?

I’ve ventured into Zara, Topshop, JD and Footasylum. Some minor queues (a few minutes wait) but otherwise it’s fine. Just a lot quieter. I haven’t returned anything but Zara seemed to be processing returns as normal without treating the return/customer like a leper. All staff wear masks & till staff wear gloves

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/06/2020 17:52

Just to the shops. Generally. Thanks for your response!
