Anyone have Airpods & recommend?

Thinking of treating myself to some airpods as been out walking so much more lately. Can only stretch to the standard ones not the pros.

Anyone who has them, are you happy with them and do they really stay in when walking/exercising? What are the benefits of them..slightly wondering if they are just a gimmick?

Thanks

I love mine! I wear them for running and walking. They stay in without any issues even when I'm running and a bit sweaty...

The sound is good and clear, no vibrations or distortion.

I had some other cheaper wireless earbuds before and they were unusable as even just walking slowly made them vibrate and judder, cutting out the sound. Running with them in was pointless.

Stingeray · 11/06/2020 19:32

DH has some skull candy ones that he loves and are much cheaper

glasshalfsomething · 11/06/2020 19:34

Agree with @ringletsandtwiglets.

Plus, they give you so much freedom if you’re ever on the phone for any length of time. I can fold laundry, cook and whatnot when speaking to friends and family.

Littlemiss74 · 11/06/2020 19:36

Ooh @glasshalfsomething I like the sound of that as I can spend an hour at a time on phone to my mum!

Yes, they’re brilliant all four of us here (DH and DD’s) have them and they’re great. Stay in when running, sound is great and even though me and DD1 are the kind of people who loose everything (house keys, bank cards etc) we’ve both had ours for ages and never once lost them!

FizzyPink · 11/06/2020 19:40

I love them but do often forget to charge them which is very annoying as they’re then useless.

However the best thing is that when DP watches TV when I go to bed, he connects them via Bluetooth to the tv so I don’t hear anything

swampytiggaa · 11/06/2020 19:42

I love mine. Bought myself and H a pair each with an unexpected ppi payment. Both absolutely love them.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 11/06/2020 19:43

I bought the £15 fakes from b&m and they are fantastic..

namechangenumber2 · 11/06/2020 19:45

DS (16) has his on all the time, in fact I wonder if they're now permanently attached ... Grin

duletty · 11/06/2020 19:51

My son has the noise cancelling ones (he bought with his own saved up money) I got my daughter £25 ones and the Bluetooth connection is shit

duletty · 11/06/2020 19:53

It’s a bit like our headphon s, we have Bose noise cancelling ones and a 10 pair, the sound quality is completely different

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/06/2020 19:59

They are so useful, they pair automatically to both my laptop and phone, I use them for all my zoom meetings as well as listening to music, podcasts, TV whatever. I can have them connected to my laptop at work and go downstairs and they stay in range. Same around the house. Mine are the non noise-cancelling ones, I found them a bit uncomfy at first but they're fine now.

Littlemiss74 · 11/06/2020 20:08

Thanks everyone, so how do you connect them to tv then? And how far can you go away from your phone?

I borrow 14 yo DD's when she is feeling pleased with me and they're brilliant. Am definitely going to buy my own for my Birthday. Don't know how they'd fare for head shaking exercises though.

FizzyPink · 11/06/2020 20:48

@Littlemiss74 you need to have a smart tv which has a Bluetooth connection and you can then just search for them via Bluetooth, quite easy once you’ve set it up

paddingtonbearsmarmalade · 11/06/2020 20:51

@Littlemiss74 surprisingly far, I occasionally leave my phone in the living room charging and listen to something through my airpods in the kitchen. Also sometimes leave phone in the kitchen whilst taking bins out etc. They definitely have a pretty good range. (Also useful for joining meetings via AirPods that you don’t need to say much in as you can do other things at the same time very easily Grin)

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2020 20:54

And how far can you go away from your phone

I have cheap ones and can leave my phone in the kitchen and go to the outside bin, which is probably about 8? metres and they keep the connection.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2020 20:55

Cross posted Paddington Grin

Littlemiss74 · 11/06/2020 21:06

Ok thanks so looking them up now and have found airpods generation 2 aswell - are these the version in between version 1 and the pro’s? I read that the first version is now discontinued although they are still available on amazon.

They have great range, I can go the length of my garden, 15m or so from my phone, upstairs if I leave the phone somewhere near the stairs downstairs, at work I can go down to the kitchen which is immediately below my office.

TreacherousPissFlap · 11/06/2020 21:16

Love mine, literally one of my favourite belongings!
I wear them running, dog walking and while doing housework etc. I also find them hugely helpful for talking on the phone while still carrying on with daily life and when I come hone on a late shift, I can still pootle round the house without waking anyone up.
The only problem I've found is that I seem quite unaware when the battery is running out. They last ages so I'm not in the habit of charging them regularly, then all of a sudden they make the squangly noise and they're dead. Hmm

Princessgenie · 11/06/2020 21:20

Utterly love mine. Bought as a birthday present for me on pre order when first ever released and I thought they were a gimmick and would never use after the first week. And I would be utterly lost without them now. Listen to podcasts as I’m dozing off to sleep; use them for work conference calls all day. Love them.

Atomsaway · 11/06/2020 21:26

My son was desperate for some and used his birthday money to get some. However, we had to return them because they kept falling out of his ears. They just did not fit. I also found them really uncomfortable and would have definitely fallen out during exercise.
I would love to get the newer type with the little plug type bit but I can’t justify the money.

KenAdams · 11/06/2020 22:03

The Sony WF-1000XM3 are far superior.
