And the stuff I read about sept in Scotland! Worse than wales and that's something. Kids in 3 or 4 days a week every 3 weeks!!!!!

Remember Steve Chalk?

One academy trust has decided to plan for summer learning anyway. Oasis Trust said the Park Plaza hotel group had offered the services of one of its hotels in Waterloo, central London. The Rev Steve Chalke, who founded the trust, said Oasis intends to run a summer school from the hotel and then use its facilities to open schools more widely to pupils from September if more space is needed.

He also plans to campaign for retired teachers to “step forward to help us over the summer, to rally the troops”.

Good point Hester

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 09:06

Another prediction- the 1m reduction in England will be a temporary measure and is softening people up for a return to normal. After the reduction the next message will be around transmission not growing so just don’t hug/kiss/touch then people will be people! I’m going to be positive today!

Wales but welsh govt says it won't reduce 2m even if England does?

Nihiloxica · 13/06/2020 09:09

I hate shopping, but I will make a conscious effort to go.

I want shops to survive and I also want them to reopen with mask refusers and rule breakers front and centre.

These bullshit rules can only last as long as there is overwhelming social pressure to adhere to them.

The shop owners don't want them, they are being driven by risk averse functionaries and insurance companies taking advantage of new reasons not to pay out claims.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 09:09

Just checked that article on the shopping from BBC

"Government guidelines recommend people should shop alone where possible so hopes of hitting the stores with friends will have to wait.

Some retailers, such as Primark, will allow a group of people into their shops from Monday but they must be from the same household. They will also have to follow social distancing rules once they are inside the branch."

So sounds like a recommendation, but BBC taking that as a rule. All quite vague overall, once again

@orange
"He also plans to campaign for retired teachers to “step forward to help us over the summer, to rally the troops”

Thats what's been needed all along. A nightingale style approach to education.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/06/2020 09:09

Scotland and Wales won’t be getting any closer than 2m to each other for years by the sounds of it. Don’t know how they expect people to form new relationships (or maintain existing ones).

I love Steve Chalke.

What a hero.

Bollss · 13/06/2020 09:12

I think Scotland and Wales will massively regret this because it's really discouraging people from ever going there. As someone in England I've prev visited Scotland but not Wales. And with what's going on I'm more likely to travel within the UK than I ever was, but would I go to either of those places now? Fuck no! How many other people are going to feel the same way?

I feel like I'd be supporting an oppressive dictatorship but also feel incredibly unwelcome.

Nihiloxica · 13/06/2020 09:12

Oh, well I tried to arrange to go shopping on my own, but it just wasn't possible.

Oh dear.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 09:12

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I think wales will have to accept that we can’t go on like this. We’ll be behind England but once English children are getting a decent education we’ll have to follow. I reckon by Christmas in Wales! Although I’m actually more hopeful around September now Kirsty has a bit of a glint in her eye.

I'm still fascinated by how Scotland and Wales are going to pay for their extended political lockdowns.

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/06/2020 09:17

I'm taking dd to Primark next Saturday. Will they be DNA testing us at the door?

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 09:18

I had not realised Steve Chalk was a rev. He tuns a trust for poorer pupils I think. Interesting to see anti dementor clergy types. There was one here putting the police in place for moving on the elderly from benches too I remember. Also out primary school trust is a churchy one and they have been the most positive so far out of the two.

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/06/2020 09:18

I'm also happy to get married in December and not kiss anyone other than dp Wink

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 09:21

BBC is such a dementor isn't it. Interpreting guidance and making up it;s own interpretations and telling the public what to do

Meantime Boris is meant to be going out and about on the high street to encourage shoppers etc

Our local town keeps declaring itself a hotspot for covid.....
In the last two weeks we have averaged 2 cases a week, before that just under 4 a week and the week before that just over 4 a week.
In a population of 141000.
Fucking hot spot my arse.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 09:22

AnxiousElephant we 'eloped' (after having two DC and living together for years) and got married with no family just two witnesses, it was fab. Really recommend it. It was lovely and cheap too!

rookiemere · 13/06/2020 09:22

Nihiloxia Scotland will simply reduce the higher rate tax band threshold which is already lower than England.
The SNP appear to have a dogged hatred of anyone who has done well for themselves so that will fit well into the narrative.

Obviously first they will blame Westminster for not paying for Scotland's extended through choice and not really justified by he numbers lockdown.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 09:23

@Nihiloxica we’ll ask for borrowing powers and hopefully be told no. Then we’ll blame Westminster setting up a really healthy civic society before the May elections where I wonder how many people will be joining me and switch their allegiance from welsh labour? A lot more will have hit the fan by then. I think they’re planning for a COVID based campaign but by any measure the government has performed poorly.

Only 36 per cent of people in England feel safe outside their home

in that last Times article. Sad

This is what I wanted but dp wanted friends and family there and didn't want to upset his mum Hmm and now it's been bloody postponed anyway!
Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 09:25

What could end up happening is if people end up on UC the conditionals of job hunting have been removed for now and also it has been increased - housing costs in Scotland are a bit lower so might be lots end up on that
