Our neighbours have carer three times a day she is pretty much bed ridden in her nineties as is her OH. Not once have we or the neighbours seen them wear masks or gloves. It is noticeable at this time. Our panic strewn N Wales R number was driven it is admitted now by care home cases and deaths. One home near us 40 residents and many of the staff tested positive. I just hope when the carers go home they dump their clothes on the front porch and hop in a shower before going near their families.

Been looking at Spain again tonight, they really are still being naughty, Madrid especially is muttering about the fudging of figures. Also looking at Brazil those poor people their president really is an ostrich declaring it flu.

It is nuts countries either hiding the numbers or in our case counting too many cases as being covid.

Glad to see USA numbers coming down, my friends in NY are fed up now.

Nihiloxica · 12/06/2020 23:01

Brazil's numbers per million are better than the UK's.

There's a huge element of luck in how well countries do in terms of death rates.

It's not a 'flu virus, but anyone who puts "just" before 'flu is an idiot given how many people die of 'flu every year.

Influenza is more dangerous to people under 45 than Covid. Given the demographics of Brazil, Bolsonaro has a point.

PickAChew · 12/06/2020 23:04

Just checked and our MP is a schools dementor, backing the decision not to open up primary schools.

So so true

Our county councillor in charge of the schools portfolio has told the media her children are going back on 29th June. Well that is interesting they are at the same school as grand kids and we have been told absolutely nothing about the school opening up. Does she know something we don`t. Fingers crossed.

Sr Declan "struck down in her prime" at almost 98 has a new resonance in the New Normal Grin

Scottish anti dementor mums: look up Rotation Frustration group on Facebook. Its not overtly anti lockdown but is about parents campaigning against unworkable school modelling, and trying to share and pool resources.

Hand wringing headline, but actually reasonably sensible article

This thread has truly kept me going.

So just booked a jumpy castle for next weekend, I have dug out all of my old pop songs and we are going to have a mini party! No it is not anyone's birthday, and I don't care if it rains all day I need this day of joy.

Also heading to the beach on Sunday, packing a picnic and to hell with it. Will keep driving until we find a quiet beach. I am going to paddle my feet, lie in the sunshine and eat lots of crisps.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 06:49

Brazil has stopped counting it's deaths though, just letting it go through the pop as is India. They are testing the vaccine there, read a story on that yesterday, in health workers

Dementory message from DCs tutor about secondary pupils back next week, cannot wait for a friend on school premises 'they have tried to hard to organise them is school) etc

DC has not seen friend since March (mainly apathy, and speaks online) so hoping they might walk home with a mate. Told him he might need to wait in a park nearby.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 07:26

On that subject www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53022369

Meant to be covering PSHE and MH in these sessions so hope they are being more encouraging about meeting up. the newsletter was

(shopping)

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 07:37

"But picking things up in a shop might be a hard habit to break for some, says consumer psychologist Kate Nightingale.

"There will be this almost automatic behaviour of your muscles where you want to touch something," she says. "But then you're in the middle of the flow of your hand to the counter [and] you will remind yourself, 'No, I can't.'"

And this can create other problems"

Hmm
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 07:45

@orangeblossom - I liked “people may be grumpy”! I think I’ll carry on with click and collect/delivery for clothes (M&S had a nice selection so dd’s summer stuff is bought). Her shoes are the only thing I really want to try on and that sounds a pita.

Littlebelina · 13/06/2020 07:52

Gah, do you reckon mumsnet would be up for a feature that if you type "schools aren't childcare" a hand comes out of your screen and slaps you to make you think twice? Or at least it autocorrects to "schools aren't primarily childcare but have a secondary function as such in current society (and anyone who states otherwise is bring obtuse)"

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 07:57

Yes not exactly encouraging shopping (BBC) just put me off that article, reminded me of hissing man in M&S...mainly can't try clothes on either, and supposed to go alone. No thanks

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 08:00

Wales DS has wide feet and only wears these barefoot shoes we can get online anyway, we just order a pair and send them back if don;t fir and get the next size up. But they are wide fitting so know the width will be OK. Expensive though.

Blobby10 · 13/06/2020 08:12

@Khione i agree totally but it just made me laugh that she and Dad have been doing the full isolation thing for so long and living by The Roolz which I have been scoffing at and saying how ridiculous they are - we've all been keeping ourselves to ourselves for so bloody long now the chances of catching anything is almost non existent - that suddenly she picks up on a rule change that suits her and bends it to the extreme. Mum is 80% recovered from the stroke physically but the depression is kicking in slowing her progress - maybe hugging the grandchildren will boost her up enough to want to push herself with the physio

TheGreatWave · 13/06/2020 08:13

Going shopping sounds absolutely rubbish. All these 'rules' are not going to help the sector at all.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 08:16

You can also measure feet at home with these,

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 08:18

Yeah I have zero interest in going shopping in an atmosphere of misery, restriction and suspicion.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 08:18

Quite a good sale on in some places I notice

Orangeblossom78 · 13/06/2020 08:23

Feel sorry for the poor shops really
