Have you had your holiday refunded?

I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of holiday companies that have refunded without fuss.
It would certainly influence my choice when booking in the future.

I was booked to go away with Lastminute.com. Although the refund did take a little longer than it should to come through I got every penny back.

owl I have now had full refund from Sykes. Keep trying.

Villa Plus are even more difficult to contact. Want to move our holiday but cannot get in touch at all.

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2020 19:20

I am surprised Ryanair cancelled August flights . I can only see flight status up til late July for most destinations.

NainAGP · 24/06/2020 19:32

@AngelsWithSilverWings Thanks for the info, I'll look into it now. I'm thinking the Isle of Man ferry sounds a good bet, in the future.

AdoptedBumpkin · 24/06/2020 19:35

Thankfully we hadn't booked one, but my dear mum had a refund of nearly £400 for a domestic holiday.

Stinkyjellycat · 24/06/2020 19:45

We haven’t heard anything from VILLA PLUS and can’t get through on the phone and they don’t answer their emails. Our holiday should have been at the start of June.

TheRedShoes75 · 24/06/2020 19:50

We booked a holiday in Cornwall (pre-Covid) for my mum’s 70th this April for the whole extended family through a Hoseasons group company Blue Chip. They were terrible and refused a refund and were generally unhelpful. We got our money back via a credit card chargeback but I will never use them or one of their group companies again. I looked up their most recent company accounts and could see how many millions profit they’d made in 2019 so I don’t feel there’s any moral issue with this.

On the other hand we’d booked a self catering cottage in Suffolk via Durrants who were very responsive, organised a full refund and so will have our business again as soon as we can use them.

mumwon · 24/06/2020 19:55

@NainAGP if company cancel because of coronavirus you can apply to your bank credit card for a refund ditto for debit cards

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2020 20:02

Oh God stinky, Villa Plus are awful. And I used to really rate them.

Even Sykes have been better communicators and that is not a great competition to find yourself in.

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2020 20:04

I think Ryanair may have moved out flight, too. I can see a Saturday flight going out to Malaga next week, arriving at 11.25 pm.

The flight we booked (with supplements for a 'good' arrival time' would have got us in a t 11AM!

My DH is also clinically vulnerable .

It's a shitshow.

girlinleeds · 24/06/2020 20:08

We were due to go oh holiday with tui beginning of April. Holiday cancelled by them by text message, with a don't call us we'll contact you message. Waited and waited two weeks after departure date no contact, couldn't get through on the phone. Eventually got sent a credit voucher, still couldn't get through on the phone. They eventually set up so you could request a refund online. From that point it was quiet quick and we have been refunded but it was 10 weeks from when they cancelled. Communication was appalling but I think they've improved things now.
We had a hotel booked with ebookers for night before, they contacted me as soon as we went into lock down and refunded my non refundable room
I was due to take part in the great North run and had booked a room with travel lodge, once the run was cancelled contacted them not expecting anything as its in September and again a non refundable room and they've given me a voucher for the cost

HettyPain · 24/06/2020 20:10

Incredibly impressed with Agoda. Had booked non-refundable rooms in various locations in August. All refunded in full.

Booked an August flight via Amex Travel. Refunded in full within a week despite being warned it could take up to 12.

CoronaIsComing · 24/06/2020 20:21

We’ve got our money back from our hotel in Whistler, Canada and a refund on our lift passes. Nothing from Lufthansa despite the 12 week waiting time having passed. They’re now giving themselves 6-12 months to refund. They’ve been a shambles and every comment on their daily FB posts are about refunds.

Nothing from EasyJet either for a different trip.

Bellablahhole · 24/06/2020 20:28

Jet2 (package holiday) refunded quickly, with no fuss or problems. No need for us to call to chase up. Amazing service!
We were due to fly tomorrow Sad

Iamamadeupname · 24/06/2020 20:40

Norwegian Air refunded cancelled flights without any problems apart from the delay of approx 2 months which I thought was reasonable under the circumstances.

The80sweregreat · 24/06/2020 20:48

We did eventually with TUI.
Took lots of phone calls and patience.
The staff were nice enough , it was the system to get the refund that was appalling.
Spent some of it on home improvements!
Won't be going abroad for a while now.

cretelover · 24/06/2020 20:51

Tui moved end of may holiday to October. Moved it around beginning of May. Should have had £500 price difference refunded. No sign of it yet.

Kez200 · 24/06/2020 20:57

Travel Republic.

Communication clear. Process clear. System worked so far and we are in their queue for full refund.

As our departure was June we won't actually get the money until late July, but their schedule is clear. So we are trusting in it and that we will get the money as promised.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 24/06/2020 21:05

BA refunded flights no issue at all, didn't even mention us taking a voucher fornfuture flights instead of a straight refund.

Tots to Travel on the other hand, who are "mumsnet approved", thanks in part to our glowing review when we did a test holiday for MN last year, shrugged their shoulders, offered the chance to reschedule to an unknown date where we "would have to be flexible", the only alternative was being palmed off on to our travel insurance company. Tots to Travel claim to only be the travel agent, despite the resort we were due to go to being accommodation exclusive to them and only available through them, and so the hotel also avoided any responsibility for our booking or money. Still waiting for insurance to assess our claim and hopefully refund us.

Anyway, I think Mumsnet should revisit their "approved by" label as the way it has been handled by Tots to Travel was terrible - they basically shrugged their shoulders and said they couldn't or wouldn't refund us.

CathyorClaire · 24/06/2020 21:13

I've had my Easyjet flight booking refunded by Travel Republic. Clear info (although we had to chase when it didn't appear by the stated week) and they were excellent when Monarch went tits up too.

It's our go-to provider but we will defo use again.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/06/2020 21:58

Heard lots of good things about Jet2. BA made it a bit harder to get a refund as had to phone, but once we got through it was pretty painless. Ryanair just awful, easyJet marginally better. Premier inn contacted us without asking to refund a non refundable hotel stay - I was very impressed with that. It was a cheap room, I wouldn't even have bothered claiming via travel insurance as it wouldn't have been worth it after excess.

BackforGood · 24/06/2020 22:04

I go in and get adviice and support from a High Street shop.
Hays travel took over when Thomas Cook went bust.
They have been excellent.
3 or 4 phone calls to keep me in the loop of what was happening then the full refund appeared back on my credit card a week before we were due to go.
I will 100% book with them again.

My ds's Ryan Air flights from March, OTOH - totally the other end of the continuum.

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/06/2020 22:40

Jet2 keep coming up as doing well.
I’ve just been refunded the money I paid for the transfer through Holiday Extras. They had sent a voucher but I requested a refund. I’d given up on it but it came through last week.

Norwegian airlines cancelled my flights to NYC for August about 10 days ago received a refund the other day.

I really rate the IoM Steam Packet Co NainAGP
This is 2 consecutive years we have had a problem and they have been brilliant. Last year I found myself unexpectedly in plaster just before our trip and the staff on both our outbound and return journeys couldn't have been more helpful. And this year's handling of our cancellation was exemplary,
Could all be down to luck I suppose but it is a huge contrast to the standard of service I've encountered from any of the airlines I have flown with recently and that makes me much more inclined to travel with them again.
By the way, I would recommend booking direct with the Steam Packet Co. Friends who were going to the same event as us but had booked through an intermediary had to wait much longer for their refund and the agent kept quite a big admin fee, whereas we got every penny back.

hairygodmother · 25/06/2020 00:59

Sykes. Bloody awful. No personal communication, impossible to get hold of, one holding email sent with no salient information. Website no useful info either. Automatically deducted the quite considerable cancellation fee. Shocking behaviour.
