Have you had your holiday refunded?

I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of holiday companies that have refunded without fuss.
It would certainly influence my choice when booking in the future.

I was booked to go away with Lastminute.com. Although the refund did take a little longer than it should to come through I got every penny back.

@Ohdeariedear

I’m about to get into a “discussion” with a uk based holiday let company who have said no refunds, claim on your insurance.
Choice cottages perchance?
HotChoc10 · 11/06/2020 08:17

Air bnb refunded quickly, as did a hotel we booked privately. Hertz did too.

Ryanair sent me a voucher.

HotChoc10 · 11/06/2020 08:19

More annoying is that my travel insurance (Sainsburys) hasnt processed my claim yet for a flight that wasn't cancelled, despite covering for FCO advice against travel.

mummyof2boys30 · 11/06/2020 08:21

Air B & B money back straight awau
Magic breaks - changed date and actually got better deal
Easyjet car hire - still waiting 33 days later
Easyjet flights - changed dates at just few pounds extra.

boredboredboredboredbored · 11/06/2020 08:22

Gullivers Travel - school sports trip booked via Ds school. They must have over £40k of parents money, nothing yet - still waiting after 3 months. Disgusted 🤬

iwantsomesun · 11/06/2020 08:22

British Airways.
Emailed 15 days before departure to say flight cancelled. Called the number on the email, a few attempts but got through the same day. Flight & hotel (separate bookings but linked) refunded in full back to my account within 48 hours.

LovingLen · 11/06/2020 08:25

I foolishly paid the whole lot of my TUI holiday for July when I booked it, I then cancelled it in April and they had to refund me minus the deposit, they did refund me, it took about 3 weeks which wasn’t bad with how busy they are.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/06/2020 08:26

Got all but £1.5k of a £10k package holiday back from Kenwood but only after they fobbed me off for over a month and I threatened a credit card chargeback. Still waiting on the insurance company to deal with our claim for the rest. Was supposed to take 30 days but it's been almost three months now and we've not heard a thing.

Also had a UK camping holiday booked but I've accepted a transfer of booking to next summer.

Doilooklikeatourist · 11/06/2020 08:27

Tui refunded quickly ( we booked through a local travel agent , that may have helped )
Holiday was for April , we actually had the refund before we should have travelled
We have a cottage we rent out on Airbnb , they've been very helpful to the hosts , as well as the clients

CherryPavlova · 11/06/2020 08:28

We decided to defer bookings rather than have refunds. We wanted some things to look forward to and I rather suspect UK accommodation will see a surge in bookings shortly. We didn’t want to lose the opportunity to go away when we can.

Currently have a booking for two places a short distance apart so we can have a family break over the weekend we should have been hosts wedding, in late July. We can rebook if necessary, so nothing lost.
Deferred a trip to the Lakes and booked now for a week next year.

Purplewithred · 11/06/2020 08:29

Trailfinders: initially offered choice of refund or leave credit with them, then offered and received full refund.

tibradden · 11/06/2020 08:34

Holiday booked with Mark Warner. Only a voucher offered. We have big family wedding abroad next year and can’t use the voucher. No offer of a refund. No answer to phonecalls or emails re. Refund. Very disappointed ☹️

AndyMurraysCat · 11/06/2020 08:36

I was promised a full refund within 10-14 working days by Virgin Holidays. So far nothing. Tried doing a chargeback via credit card but they refused to do it because it was outside the 90 days guidelines
Hmm
Next week I’m trying again coz it will be 90 days.
Such a shame as I had been a loyal customer of Virgin since 1994.

20viona · 11/06/2020 08:36

We had flights through Norwegian they have been absolutely shocking so I went though my credit card instead and have just received my money back.

AndyMurraysCat · 11/06/2020 08:37

Just to add, that was back in March.

reluctantbrit · 11/06/2020 08:38

EasyJet for a flight in April - refunded fairly fast. They cancelled already beginning of April and I think we had the money before we ere due to come back.

Virgin - they wouldn’t let us cancel u TIL 2weeks prior to departure for May half term. Pushed for vouchers or rebooking but our travel insurance wouldn’t cover a rebooking if it had to be cancelled again for Covid. They say refunds are due between 2-3 months, working they way back from cancellations in March so I think we may see the money in Summer. I am not too fussed as we won’t book anything that large again any time soon.

Neptunesgiraffe · 11/06/2020 08:40

Jet2 refunded our flights fairly quickly, the return journey was with Easyjet and still waiting for the money back, from them.

Dazedandconfused28 · 11/06/2020 08:40

I claimed on my insurance.

Many of my friends and family (due to the nature of where they are from) have holiday lets as their entire income & many are facing going bust at the moment, it is worth remembering there are real people & jobs behind your holidays.

To shame companies (particularly small businesses) at a time when many people are desperate, can have terrible consequences.

MrBennsshop · 11/06/2020 08:41

We've booked a month away in September, long haul. I'm assuming it won't be going ahead which will be a nightmare as it consist of multiple bookings as we were travelling around the country. The whale watching cruise with Celebrity which was our first week has just been cancelled by them and we have accepted a refund, which will take time to receive but was very straightforward. They offered an alternative of 125% credit, which seemed fair.

One AirBnB host has cancelled a booking for 3 nights, and we received the refund the same day. I have no idea what will happen with all the other components of the holiday if we have to cancel them as expected.

goingonahairbunt · 11/06/2020 08:45

First choice would only allow us to change our holiday - disappointing to see that the allowed changes didn't include free child places, were mostly self catering and were all significantly more expensive than the holidays available for general booking. The same holiday for the same time next year was £1500 more and despite the holiday we've gone for being out of season it was still £600 more. It's a first world problem though so I can't complain too much, it's just a shame that the operators seem to be putting people in a position where they don't have a lot of choice

skippy67 · 11/06/2020 08:46

BA initially offered vouchers, then a few weeks later they cancelled my flights. Called the number on the cancellation email, and got a full refund the same week.

Elmo230885 · 11/06/2020 08:46

Only talking a small amout of money but Haven were fantastic. Emailed offering options and sent update options giving dates when they would be dealing with which departure dates. I chose my option ( to change dates to next year and get a £50 voucher to use on site ) they called me and this was arranged over the phone. They even added an extra name onto the booking.

Many people have a legal right to a refund, so I don't have an issue with people naming companies in those cases. It's a difficult time for everyone, and that includes consumers who may themselves have paid over large amounts for holidays they won't be getting and are also likely to be in financial difficulties.
Thecatisboss · 11/06/2020 08:51

@37Ohdeariedear insurance will refuse the claim and refer you back to the travel company as they should refund you. @34tibradden I found this when looking online

theconsumerlawyer.blog/2020/04/30/the-competition-markets-authority-confirms-its-view-of-the-law-relating-to-cancelled-bookings/

DH also works in travel insurance (though not th is side of things) and said that ABTA have told holiday companies they should be refunding not just giving travel vouchers/credit notes. We were offered one for a holiday in Northumberland but wrote a letter before action threatening the small claim court and they are unhappily refunding us.
