Have you had your holiday refunded?

I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of holiday companies that have refunded without fuss.
It would certainly influence my choice when booking in the future.

I was booked to go away with Lastminute.com. Although the refund did take a little longer than it should to come through I got every penny back.

Ryanair have cancelled my flights and offered voucher or refund. I opted for refund but have been told they're taking 10-12 weeks to process. Only offered voucher for transfers though - they refused a cash refund.

Clymene · 11/06/2020 09:03

I had a booking at a hotel owned by Greene King via Booking.com. Only after huge amounts of chasing from me and then booking.com did I get a refund. And they cancelled the original booking! I shall rebook the trip next year but I won't stay there.

Am waiting to see what happens with Ryanair as one of my flights is no longer showing on their system yet they haven't told me

MissusMaker · 11/06/2020 09:07

Booked through OnTheBeach to travel Easter weekend. Communication was good, I didn't have to chase them. The hotel and transfers were refunded after a month - which is quite long but I understand that it was right at the beginning of this fiasco and they were scrabbling you catch up. The flights were with Easyjet (booked via OnTheBeach) and had to wait another month for those to be refunded. For unknown reasons EJ only refunded £1k of our £1.2k flights and OtB are still chasing this for us. Would def book through OtB again.

Haven, due to go at the beginning of July. We were given 3 options, go with restricted access, credit note, or full refund. We went with refund. Had a bit of an issue whether it went through ok on the website so contacted them through Twitter last week and had confirmation yesterday that the money should be in our bank within 28 days.

fuckinghellthisshit · 11/06/2020 09:09

@FavouriteFightingFrenchman The email exchange is really something - personal insults, nasty asides about my DM living in Florida and the 'type of people' that would even stoop to ask for a refund.

They have also refused to provide documentation proving they refused to refund so I submitted the email exchange and the credit card company said they have never seen anything like it and are pursuing a section 75.
I have all the screenshots of conversations showing that they stated a full refund would be given if we were unable to fly due to C19 (I paid in Jan and was worried even then). Awful people, just awful.

ClashCityRocker · 11/06/2020 09:12

Booking with a small UK holiday cottage firm - they are refusing cash refunds at present without a fight.

Originally tried to charge a £150 'rebooking' fee for moving the booking too - to put that into context, the entire cost of the booking was only £300 so small fry compared to some here. They scrapped that when it was pointed out that they should be refunding anyway and most other places are offering an incentive to rebook.

In the end we did go the rebooking route - it's somewhere we stay regularly and this particular cottage is perfect for us location and facility wise.

However the behaviour of the booking company has meant we will be looking at alternatives in the future when otherwise we would have continued to book with them, as we had done for several years previously.

No refund from Ryanair, 3 flights £708 from April. They keep offering a voucher, no thanks O’Leary I want my cash NOW!

Aragog · 11/06/2020 09:18

For my Easter break. All we're booked in a non refundable cheaper rate.

EasyJet flights - full refund within a couple of weeks though had to chase via twitter

Booking.com accommodation - full refund offered without me asking

Holiday extras airport car parking/hotel - voucher refund, happy to accept this one as knew would use

Alamo car hire - full refund

For May half term - DD's London hotel:

Travel lodge - full refund. Arrived a few days after she should have stayed. Didn't have to apply. They emailed us.

Hellohah · 11/06/2020 09:20

I had flights with EasyJet - I phoned up, got straight through and had my refund within 5 days.
The accommodation was booked via Travel Republic. They emailed early on to say refunds would be process 6 weeks after the departure date, no need to contact them. Refund was received about 6 weeks after our departure date.

Ilovefluffysheep · 11/06/2020 09:27

Booked a package with Cruise Nation (flights, accommodation pre-cruise, cruise and more accommodation post-cruise). We flew out, had been in our starting point one night then our cruise was cancelled. We were repatriated home (as is the responsibility of the travel agent as per legislation).

That was 13 weeks ago.

Since then Cruise Nation have pretty much ignored all of our emails, other than 2. One of them was an official complaint, they replied to say they have 56 days to investigate and get back to us as per ABTA guidelines. 56 days has been and gone and no reply.

The other was to say they were applying for a refund for the cruise, but for everything else it is tough luck and to contact our travel insurance. Travel insurance have said that as we bought a package holiday, legally it is the duty of the travel agent to refund us.

I put in a dispute with Barclaycard on 1st April. Every time I send a message through their secure message centre I just get a generic reply saying it's being looked at. I sent a message a week and a half ago titled complaint and haven't had a reply.

4k out of pocket, and a bit stuck as what to do next. The Package Holiday regulations 2018 clearly state Cruise Nation are responsible, but they continue to ignore my correspondence.

I just feel like I'm going round in circles trying and failing to get our money back.

thenightsky · 11/06/2020 09:31

2 flights from Ryanair from beginning of April. Got a credit note we can't use as we were going to Denmark for a specific event. Can't get through on the phone to swap credit note for cash.

otterbaby · 11/06/2020 09:33

Still waiting on my refund from Lufthansa, which was due to come at the end of March 😭 Would recommend avoiding them!!

Dazedandconfused28 · 11/06/2020 10:11

Yes, many people do now have a legal right, I’m not sure that always makes it morally right to shame people.

I was lucky with my insurance (AXA, if anyone is interested.) I still lost money - which is hard, as I’ve also lost my job. But the holiday was a luxury & I know for the people who run the cottage I had booked it represents months of lost income - it’s just another perspective.

OnceBitten25 · 11/06/2020 10:39

Jet2 refunded with no fuss

Lardlizard · 11/06/2020 10:47

Good idea for a thread, I’ve had premier inn biking refunded no problem or hassle

EasyJet flights awaiting Refund for flight they cancelled in May

Ylvamoon · 11/06/2020 10:58

I had a booking with Exodus Travel. Was send email to notify me that holiday was cancelled, with all options on offer. Refund or re booking, or alternative holiday. I phoned them, no waiting, got it all sorted there and then. Refund in the bank within 24 hours!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/06/2020 12:15

@dazedandconfused28 how long did your claim take ? We are also with AXA - made our claim on 20th March and have had no response. Managed to get through on phone after a month to confirm claim had been received but then had to wait an hour to be connected to claims dept before we had to give up and hang up. Emailed them a few weeks later when we still hadn't heard from them and they took a week to reply only to ask us to give them another month! It should be a straight forward claim.

trilbydoll · 11/06/2020 12:23

I've got a credit note from Brittany Ferries, they would have given a refund if I had wanted.

Very impressed with the French campsite who (in line with French law) have issued a credit note for what was technically a non refundable deposit.

Cottages in Devon let us reschedule Easter to whenever we wanted, I'm not sure they would have been able to afford refunds.

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/06/2020 19:06

Good to hear lots of people have had refunds.

Nothing wrong with shaming companies like Ryanair.

OP posts:
AngelsWithSilverWings · 18/06/2020 09:04

Our insurance company have refused our claim as they are saying the travel agent should have refunded all of our money under abta package holiday rules. So it's back to Kenwood to ask for the £1.5k that they said wasn't refundable - waiting to hear back from their customer service department.

Lola001 · 18/06/2020 10:37

Love holidays are absolute wanktards.
Still waiting for my money back from March.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 24/06/2020 14:53

Kenwood still saying that part of our holiday is non refundable but we've pushed and they've offered a credit note. Went back to ins co for advice which was really useful as they pointed us to the section of the new travel regulation act 2018 which proves that Kenwood are wrong. So now we are doing an Amex charge back request.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/06/2020 15:33

Travel trolley have been utter pants! Our flight home from Bangkok back in early March was cancelled, they gave us no help in finding us an alternative so we ended up having to find our own at massive cost. They are still stalling on any kind of refund despite us paying for a return flight from them so don’t expect to get the full cost back, last communication was that they are very busy and will get back to us first week of July! I will never ever use them again as leaving us with no communication whilst abroad with poor WiFi was shocking in my opinion. Gulf air who the flights were booked with were also shocking and we got no response from them when we tried to clarify if there was another flight they could put us on to get home.

DeepfriedPizza · 24/06/2020 15:36

I was supposed to travel with tui today. We got all our money apart from £150 last week. I’ll give them a few more days to pay that before I chase them

OneForMeToo · 24/06/2020 15:43

Only a U.K. break but still awaiting a refund from parkdean for a May holiday.

I’m astonished at how these companies are getting away with holding onto people’s money for so long. parkdeans thing it like 45 days after departure date yet the holidays where all cancelled prior to arrival dates. Although I have messages saying it would be 25 days from request they are sticking to their 45 days thing.
