Have you had your holiday refunded?

I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of holiday companies that have refunded without fuss.
It would certainly influence my choice when booking in the future.

I was booked to go away with Lastminute.com. Although the refund did take a little longer than it should to come through I got every penny back.

Sorry everyone for detail but does anyone know ...

We're booked to fly with Ryanair to Berlin in July. As it stands now Germany is open to UK with no quarantine required on arrival.

Even if a) FCO lift travel advice by then and b) Boris lifts quarantine on arrival home, to be honest we're still not going, it's just not going to be the trip we'd imagined.

If the FCO advice not to travel was still in place would RA have to refund us in some form? Or would they say it's advice not a total ban from FCO therefore it's our choice?

Thanks for thread OP, I'll be watching with an eye on planning for next year Smile

PS even before Covid we've always found Jet2 excellent. In particular when flying with DD 11, they have always guaranteed that at least one of us will automatically be sat with her so we only ever paid for a chosen seat for DH or I and not both.

Bloody love Jet2 Wink

Agree Air BnB have been good. I'd definitely continue to use them.

Thread hog me Wink

We were booked with Tui for May half term. I had to wait for official notification of cancellation from them before doing anything. They offered a voucher for the cost plus 20% but we wanted a refund. Was expecting a very long wait on the phone to sort but they set up an online request system and we now have the money back. Very pleased.

shartsi · 24/06/2020 16:16

Yes. Jet 2 refunded but I lost deposit, which was ok.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 24/06/2020 16:21

we are still "in discussions" about our refund. Booked long haul flights with Lufthansa via Expedia for Easter, which were cancelled. Each is blaming the other for delays to the refund, although an "account credit voucher" appeared like lightning Hmm. Lesson learned - next time go straight to the airline.

I should mention that the three accommodation providers we'd booked directly with refunded instantly.

shinynewapple2020 · 24/06/2020 16:37

We had to cancel holiday cottages from Easter and June booked through Holiday Lettings and we got immediate refund on both. Both were booked pre-Covid. Have booked a further cottage in Wales later in July and checked as I booked it (last week) that we would be OK for refund if still unable to travel to Wales at that time and they have confirmed yes.

NainAGP · 24/06/2020 16:49

We had tickets for April with trenitalia, sent in the cancellation info on time and received an acknowledgement but still no refund. If they offer vouchers instead I'll still chase for a refund as I can't see DH now being well enough to travel as we'd planned. I'm now starting to chase them on twitter too. Anyone else succeeded with them? All our other bookings - Eurostar, SNCF, did pay back ok.

ChateauMargaux · 24/06/2020 17:25

AirBnB refunded just confirmed. Booked before lockdown and was hoping we would be able to travel but have decided to pull out. Not UK so travel still permitted but a quick chat to the owner and we have had our money back. I feel sorry for holiday home owners.

MrsPerfect12 · 24/06/2020 17:40

I booked a holiday to the states via Opodo, they're dithering and not replying. British AirwYs cancelled the flights so I don't see why I shouldn't get my money back! Another phone call I'll have to do tomorrow.

marcus242628 · 24/06/2020 17:47

Our ryan air flights for Aug were cancelled by them. How do they decide which to cancel as some here have not had their flights for July cancelled? We were not asked just told they were cancelled.

lanbro · 24/06/2020 17:47

EmailFlights haven't refunded, they offered me an amount £100 less than I paid saying it was in their terms and conditions in the case of cancellation, but as the airline cancelled the flight I should have received the whole amount. Even if I'd agreed it was going to take 6-8 months to receive the money. I have claimed through my credit card and am waiting to hear from them

Tootytata · 24/06/2020 17:48

Sounds like Jet2 have been good with refunds.

I am due to fly with them in August but I just want a refund. Got an email from them saying that my flights times will change. Will I be able to get a refund due to this?!

The email said I should wait until they contact me so I'll do that.

40somethingJBJ · 24/06/2020 17:57

Butlins have just moved my holiday to next year with no problems. Refund was offered if I wanted it. Still trying to decide what to do about our Netherlands holiday at the end of August, as the park is open so they’re not offering refunds. Not booked the ferry or anything yet though, so I’ll wait and see how I feel nearer the time.

gabsdot45 · 24/06/2020 18:02

We had a trip to Mexico booked for April we got most of what we had paid for the tour refunded but we're still waiting for our flights refund from edreams. They said we will qualify for a refund but that it could take up to 90 days It's been 2 months now.

mumwon · 24/06/2020 18:08

rail discovery great rail journey originally told me in March they would return money within 2 weeks -I tried to ring 3 weeks later & no phone number so a long chain of emails & phone calls from them - credit only dated march next year - no way - dh is x vulnerable so we aren't looking ahead - so I have got back to my bank requesting cash back - god knows how long this will take

readit · 24/06/2020 18:08

Center Parcs EU - no refunds only vouchers to be rebooked within a year and taken within 15 months. If the rebook is less they will refund the difference but if it’s more you pay.
I’m pissed off, apparently there’s nothing I can do as it’s not the UK company and after I’ve taken this holiday I won’t book with them again

Willowkins · 24/06/2020 18:19

Another vote for Butlins. No need to claim.
In fact no fuss at all. First the deposit and then the balance were repaid to my credit card (so clearly doing it in chronological order). It's good to know who you can trust in a situation like this.
I was more worried about my holiday cottage booked with Sykes but looks like it will be going ahead.

MrsAvocet · 24/06/2020 18:23

Can't fault the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. We had sailings booked with them and as I had opted for a cheap, non refundable special offer I expected to lose the money. But no, they offered a rebooking or full refund, and as we were going for an event that was cancelled rather than just a holiday we opted for the refund. All done with one phone call and the money was back in my account in full on the day it was agreed. Also got a full refund from the self catering accommodation we had booked independently.
We hope to go next year and I will try to book the same travel and accommodation as we were treated extremely well.

NainAGP · 24/06/2020 18:36

Can anyone tell me the situation having paid by credit card? I'd thought you were only covered in cases of fraud but I'd love to hear if anyone got money back via the c.c company, in these situations.

Whoopsmahoot · 24/06/2020 18:57

Got a refund of 3k from TUI the day I was supposed to go on holiday. Was impressed.

Shodan · 24/06/2020 19:00

EasyJet refunded eventually- it did take nearly the whole 90 days though.

AirBnB are currently offering a credit for the deposit I paid on a holiday let in Wales. I'm going to wait a while and see what the situation is a bit nearer the time.

West Wales Holiday Cottages- see above. I'll have to contact the owner direct, but I'm not sure what will happen there as the deposit was non-refundable.

Hotels.com -really pleased with them. I didn't expect to get anything back as I booked the hotel with Tesco Clubcard vouchers. They've given me credit for the full amount, which is fine by me as I'll be booking with them next year.

FeltCarrot · 24/06/2020 19:04

Owed £2k for flights to S. Africa with Emirates booked through Opodo, £200 for internal flights in SA, that flight wasn’t cancelled so we are claiming through insurance, got £250 back from a Prague trip (also booked through Opodo , (before we realised what a shower of shit they were) but not the Ryanair flight even though it was booked as a package.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 24/06/2020 19:10

@NainAGP we raised a chargeback with Amex when Kenwood were dragging their heels on our refund. When we advised Kenwood that we had done that they immediately back tracked and refunded us. We advised Amex to cancel the chargeback but we ended up with two lots of money back! Amex have now paid Kenwood back after we pointed out the error.

We have now raised a second charge back request because Kenwood are refusing a cash refund on a portion of the holiday they incorrectly stated was not refundable.
