Sentimental and tasteful or hideous and cringe? I can’t make up my mind!

@TwatCat

I had a few, also have the full nativity set. They had their run but they should remain in the past now.
I've covered the nativity set forever!

I know what you mean about them having had their time. But can't imagine not having mine out. My mum bought me it when ex left so its symbolic of that time. Maybe that's why I like it.

Smallsteps88 · 09/06/2020 00:19

I don’t like them but my mum has bought me 3 so far. They’re on the mantelpiece. Really hope never to get anymore.

They’re the glass fish/flying ducks of our time.

ImStillBreathingButBarely2 · 09/06/2020 01:06

@hauntedvagina

Not to my taste, I put them in the same category as live, laugh, love signs and "inspirational" wall stickers in silver italics.
"Live laugh love" just makes me think of Tena lady adverts! (and I use Tena, so am not being disparaging, but who wants a slogan on their wall reminding them of pee?)
ImStillBreathingButBarely2 · 09/06/2020 01:09

@Thisismytimetoshine

Their blank faces creep me out.
I quite like them myself. I think they more tasteful than some of the more "tacky" things you can get in gift shops. Like those twee bathroom signs or forever friends/boofle tat
Littleshortcake · 09/06/2020 01:11

I have a small one that a kind woman I work with bought me with a little heart. Just because she likes me. She is quite motherly and It means a lot. I am not into them but I like the little one I have.

Thisismytimetoshine · 09/06/2020 01:12

Oh, there are many, many worse things, I totally agree.

QueenArseClangers · 09/06/2020 18:15

Sorry @Turin Grin. Have I put you off them now?
How about adding googly eyes to them? Think they’d be ace then.

Turin · 09/06/2020 18:59

@QueenArseClangers never want to look at one again!

I have one of a girl with a bunch of flowers which is pretty & also a small blue trinket box with a dog carving on lid which is nice. That's enough tho... actually, I did get my niece one of a girl with bluebirds on her arms- my niece was maybe 7/8...she loves it.

GooodMythicalMorning · 09/06/2020 19:15

Ive got two, both now damaged. One got knocked over by the kids at our old house and the head got knocked off so I glued it back together and now the same has happened to the second so looks like I'll be needing to buy some super glue again. I do quite like them.

MrsCollinssettled · 09/06/2020 19:30

I have 2 both with sentimental connections but I don't want any more. They aren't on public display in case anyone short of present ideas sees them and gets inspired Grin

donquixotedelamancha · 09/06/2020 19:32

That was a strange reaction. I'd probably just have thrown it out.

:-)

We've been given 3 of these plastic pieces of tat over the years. They all get binned.

Very wise. That's how I inadvertently started a teapot collection. Teapots!

@donquixotedelamancha you need to read the original reply that @Jingstohang was replying about Grin
*MysweetAudrina

If you like them then they are nice if you don't then you may think they are tacky. Surely if you like something then you get it and if you think it is tacky then you don't. I have one it's not that make, it is a pewter one but I noticed the other day that someone or something had beheaded it so i fucked it in the bin.*

Snagscardies · 10/06/2020 14:52

And they are wood not plastic

SockYarn · 10/06/2020 14:55

Absolutely awful. Sell well in our charity shop though.

They are the 2010s answer to Lladro figurines from the 90s or fancy crinoline ladies from the 70s.

BarbedBloom · 10/06/2020 15:15

I really don't like them

Are you sure you're not just selling the same ones over and over, since nobody seems to actually like them?

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2020 15:30

I don't like them at all, they aren't my taste.

1forAll74 · 10/06/2020 15:40

Not my choice of a room adornment, but some people do like this kind of stuff.. I was in my attic room yesterday, and came across a cardboard box containing my late Mum's ornaments, she died 15 years ago. Don't know why I keep them. There are about 40 little brass things, and the same amount of little china shoes and boots. Her flat was only small, and she had these scattered all over the place, dusting them all several times a week. Nothing to do with Willow things of course, but just things that people like to collect.

TenShortStories · 10/06/2020 16:05

I really wouldn't want any in my own home as they aren't my style, but they are far from dreadful. The sentimental aspect of them is nice too - you can find one that represents your family of make a personal gift to a grandparent etc.

Megatron · 10/06/2020 16:34

My mum bought me the 'Love' figurine a couple of weeks before she died so it's the last thing she ever bought me. She knew she didn't have long. It's the only ornament I have out and it means a lot to me.

nicky2512 · 10/06/2020 16:42

I love mine. Dd mustn’t though as she keeps knocking them over. Thankfully ds is a dab hand with the gorilla glue!

donquixotedelamancha · 10/06/2020 16:44

I did, hence the smiley face. The comment below is about the OP.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 10/06/2020 16:44

DP bought me one of a couple dancing - he said he knew it wasn’t necessarily my thing but that it reminded him of us, so I love it. I actually painted the hair to make it look more like us Smile
